Thank you so much man, this is very helpfull, I wish there were more people like you who can do tutorials this good.
Very kind of you to say, thank you! Of course we do have more tutorials such as this for Ottomans, Castile, Muscoy and soon... England! We'll continue to make slower paced, heavily commentated EU4 content on the channel going forward!
Over 2300 hours in eu4 and still watching these
Well thank you for watching! Let me know what your thoughts are :)
@@KRX_ Castile-Spain (maybe culture shift to form the roman empire?) Is one of the best and most fun run you can do, every country has it's own interesting ways to play, especially the might Ulm, my advice for newcomers would be to plan some achievable goals, wc won't be easy until you get used to the mechanics, also in my last england- great britain run i got lucky enough to get the iberian wedding while i was marching my troops to get castile under a pu(claimed their heirless throne with my lancaster, didn't even triggered the disaster in that game), having castile, aragon and naples under PU made it easy to subjugate france under a pu as well, 100 years later i was forced vassalized a 3 province prussia and feed them the entire northen europe, one pe the best runs ever.
I’ve had the game for nearly a year but I’ve never been able to play it as I’m more used to hoi4 and they’re so different lol anyways this is really useful
Glad it's been useful! Let me know if you have any questions :)
Keep in mind the Estate system has been updated since this tutorial was made. We do discuss the updated system during our more recent tutorials, which cover the perspective of Muscovy, England, Ottomans and Castile.
love your voice very relaxing
Very kind of you to say! Let me know if you have any questions.
@@KRX_ i have some doubts about Estates. The gameplay changed since your video was released. Great content!
Yeah the Estates aspect is out of date, everything else should still be relevant. In order to learn on a more up to date version of the game, with the current Estate system explained. Check out the Muscovy or France tutorial series on our channel. Both of those are also no DLC runs, so it should be the same content as this Portugal run.
@@KRX_ cool i Will check it out!
I have been trying to learn how to play this game for what seems like forever. just wanted to say thanks for doing this series.
Very kind of you to say, glad it has been helpful! Thank you for watching, let me know if you have any questions though :)
Revisiting these tutorials after 3 years.
Well, we do have some more up to date stuff on the channel. However, yes I think these should still be 99% up to date. The only major change has been how the Estates work, which is mostly ignorable... But we do cover the estate changes in other more recent series.
Really liking this series. Good to see a tutorial for the current version of the game without the DLC's. I'm finally starting to grasp the basics thanks to your tutorial.
This tutorial is SLIGHTLY out of date as of today. But it's much more updated than most series on youtube. There will be new series posted when this next large patch comes out in the next couple months.
Thanks for checking it out and the kind words! If you have any questions, let me know.
So far I haven’t really noticed outdated stuff. For the basics it just really helps to get me going and understanding what’s actually happening in the game. 👍
Will be checking out more of your EU IV vids.
@@The1Dijk Yeah this is very much still relevant. The only major difference between this and the current game is when we discuss the Estate system (episode 3 or 4) that system has been redone and that section of the video series is out of date. Everything else should still be completely accurate.
The estates are ignorable for new players regardless, it's a side mini-game, not at the core of the process.
Can you do a full playthrough with no dlc? Maybe go faster in the beginning with less explanation but explain more advanced topics later on.
I responded in more detail to your other post. I'll just say that these tutorials should teach the vast majority of what you need to know in order to start playing and succeeding in the game. Not much is expected to change or be introduced as you go further in time.
The process of playing the game and making decisions stays the same, that process is what I'm trying to convey in these tutorials.
My last game ended with me realizing that I didn’t need to keep a colonist in a tile the whole time to get the colony... and promptly losing hundreds of denars a turn... at that moment I decided it was time to learn how to play the game.
Ah yes, the colonial maintenance is tied to the number of colonists that you have... although as you found out the game doesn't prevent you from going over that "soft limit" it just costs extra for the additional ones.
Hope these videos are helpful! We'll definitely be talking about colonization once we get up to that point in this campaign! If you have any questions please ask!
It actually took me a year to realize I could withdraw colonists and the colony would still grow, but just slowly.
Another great video! I appreciate you taking these slow and explaining everything. Will you go more in depth on trade in future episodes? That is definitely something I struggle with.
Trade is something to struggle a bit with. It also is very ignorable! There really isn't a good time to teach the trade system in a tutorial for beginners. You can do well in EU4 while not understand trade! But this is something we'll probably talk about more in the future when the game is unpaused. Also it'll be mentioned in future tutorial series.
However, you know what I'm going to say most of all! Ask me during the live streams! You're no stranger :) I'll answer your general questions about trade on Twitch.
Im a noob and this game looks like it has so much potential but the game is so complicated to learn.
It is complicated, but it is also satisfying.
If you work through this tutorial, it should teach you enough to get started and enjoy playing the game. Although it does require spending 5-6 hours to learn about the most important systems that are explained throughout this series.
Good luck!
@@KRX_ Thanks I did that And now I island hopped to the Caribbean gonna start a war with a European country soon and now enjoy the game a lot now.
thx, this helps so much!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching :)
who knows i might do this campaign after my russian one, seems cool.
Portugal is fun! Very different focus to Muscoy/Russia as well!
Is it standard for the game to take 15 mins to get to the main menu?
Sadly yes, if you need to go back to the main menu, it does have to reload the entire game and it can take a few minutes. Not usually 15 mins, but depending on the computer you have it might be more or less. Probably takes me a 1-3 mins.
KRX must be my laptop.
@@robertleaver3845 Maybe, the game is old and has some issues sadly. This is one of them... takes awhile to load and return to the main menu...
KRX I just discovered the game through another you tuber, thought I might have a go. It seems very hard lol
Yes it is very difficult! There is a lot to learn. I wish you good luck though!
you talk so much faster here than in part 1 :(
UA-cam does allow you to adjust video speeds. So maybe watching the video at 0.75 speed might be to your liking?
This game does have an insane amount of information to not only explain, but build context for. This means there is going to be a lot of information in each episode. I do believe that if someone works through this series however, they will be able to start playing and enjoying the game.
If you have any questions, let me know! Good luck.
@@KRX_ yeah i know but i prefer just to go back and forth by alt-tabbing and pause/unpause.
not a big deal. really appreciate your series thus far
