Very helpful. I live in Florida and it rains a lot here. I had a black one that rotted. I didn't know to change the soil after I bought it since the soil they come in was too rich. I hope I can find another one that's dark.
Bummer! I never water mine when the start to go dormant and shrivel up. The black variety is called "Aeonium Arboreum ‘Zwartkop’ (Black Rose) ". I hope you find one :)
@@WhatPlantisthatPaul I grow outdoors and rain can't be controlled. I know some can grow here and I think it was the soil that held too much moisture. Oh thanks. I can try to search for another one online then if I can't get one locally.
@@ScaryFear We have succulent swap groups on Facebook out here. Keep it in a pot next time and with a lot of rain, bring it inside. If you can keep it from going dormant in full shade, it might be a better option for your climate.
@@WhatPlantisthatPaul I don't use facebook. But thanks. Ha, the answer is fast draining soil. I have my cactus outside and that's the key. I rains everyday so I can't be putting out in the morning and bringing it in in the evening. I was doing that with the cactus til I got them in the right soil. Many I grow in pure inorganic mixes.
Is there a good way of improving my soil if I already planted all my dragonfruit? I think I sorta failed to add enough nutrients because my stuff was all rooted but not growing. I added some miracle grow plant food one day for the hell of it and the next day every single cutting had new growth starting which tells me that I probably used a bit too much sand and cactus mix. Thanks so much for all the help the last few weeks. I promise this'll be my last question for a while lol.
Haha... No problem, that's what we are here for! Earthworm castings or composted chicken manure will help to improve the soil. I keep mine organic and both have worked well for me. Our channel has been working and testing earthworm castings by VermisTerra on hundreds of my plants. I've never seen better looking growth or dragon fruit plants since I started using earthworm castings.

It's amazing how these succulents survive even when the root rots
Yes! The beautiful thing about succulents are that most of them are not root dependent. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for sharing... my aeonium us rotting n was sooo sad... ill try this n see
Thanks Paul😍 gonna give it a shot and tell you about the result.
Excellent! Keep them while dormant, don't let them rot :)

Awesome! Thanks for sharing!!! So many people would just throw it all away... ♡ now they can learn how to save them!!
So true!
This was very helpful! Hopefully the plant survives!
Thanks, it did. Hope you have the same result.

@@WhatPlantisthatPaul Thats a good idea
When do you plant it in soil again? If I have one indoors, is it ok to keep indoors to callouse over? It's 90-100 degrees outside. :(
Around a week or so. I wait until the wound callouses over.
