I just saw this plant in San Diego and fell in love! It really is beautiful! I have one now and want to propagate it. I hope I do well and I hope you’re right! I’d love to have quite a few in my garden!
Hi Craig, your video made me remember about a neglected aeonium in the garden. The snails had munched a lot of him away but thanks to your video he has been saved. I enjoyed the humour this time as well 👍
Hi Allie, I have lots that I have left out due to sheer lack of space, I would love a greenhouse just for my succulents 😂 how's your garden coming along?
I have really enjoyed your video. I live in Almeria Spain and am loving the variety of succulents here. Propagating plants is a new hobby for me, can’t wait to try this, may have to wait for the cooler weather though.
Great video. I don't let them callus over either and I've never had a problem. Also, I just use dirt from my backyard lol. It's low quality dirt in my opinion(turns to mud when wet, and rock hard when completely dry, doesn't drain well at all) but I've NEVER had a problem with them. I got that nice California coastal weather, so maybe that has something to do with it. :D
@@ruthy37 I water them right away. You don’t need too much water tho. The water will stimulate the stem part to start sprouting roots. But even if you waited a few days or weeks, it should be ok.
Yeah same. They don’t need special succulent soil, they prefer a bit more moisture than typical succulents. I just put mine directly into my garden bed and they have grown and multiplied like crazy. Unless it’s pure clay they still grow well in normal soil.
The idea that water will make Aeonium rot is funny to me, considering my mom has always been propagating them by letting them sit in a bucket of water for a week or two. And then there's the Aeonium cutting my mom forgot in a bin before going on a long vacation. More than a month later, I found it sitting in 20 cm of dirty water. The thing had grown lots of roots and after planting it in a pot, was as healthy as its brethren.
Just got my first aeonium voodoo and I am excited to start a greenhouse garden like yours. Love the video, so educated and just subscribe to it as well.
Hello, Thanks so much for the video, very clear and easy to follow instructions. I have an Aeonium that I inherited but it is currently one very long stem with a rosette at the end. I would like to propagate it but how can I tell if it is a branching variety, as you mention in your video? From looking online it appears to be a type of Aeonium arboretum, with a dark purple rosette. Thank you
You can also put cuttings in water straight away just give a little feed on water and change water evey few days and then within a few weeks you will have roots
Hello Craig, After you pot an Aeonium cutting, how do you water it? I saw the perlite and compost are pretty dry. Don’t you mist it after you are done potting? Thank you so much for the video.
Looks like this guy never answers questions. They like and can handle lots of water but only propagate & water during spring or autumn or winter too if you don’t get a lot of rain. They sleep during summer but you can still water them just enough to keep the soil moist.
Bonjour, super vidéo pleine de bons conseils. Comment obtenir autant de repousses ou de rejets sur les tiges que vous avez coupées ? je n'y arrive jamais !
Lovely video! I'm inspired....I've been growing succulents since 2017, i love "Aeonium's" but it's Difficult to obtain beautiful, healthy ones. YOURS ARE ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!! do you ship to the US? Blessings! 🤗
8:58 I'm so confused about how you can water them so frequently!!! I'm terrified of giving mine root rot, I was thinking I should water once every 2 weeks at the moment (August, in the UK) - I'm amazed to hear you water yours so much arghh I think the stress of trying not to kill these things is going to drive me insane. /new to keeping plants
Don’t water at a specific number of days. Their needs change throughout the year. Test the soil, with a moisture meter if possible. If not, push your finger deep into the dirt. Only water if it’s dry all the way down.
Hi, i would like to know why there is some brown roots under the horizontal stem of my aeonium? And those roots seem to go in the soil quite deeply and they are very solid. Will the roots grow or it’s something i can just tear out? Good vidéo and great plants you ´ve got!
I noticed you didn’t water it when you put the cutting in the pot and you didn’t talk about watering it until after it had roots. So…are you not watering it at least once when you first pot it during propagation or what do you do about water initially and up until you get roots?
So dont water it at all? My house is not humid like a greenhouse. Will it still root despite the dry air. And how do i know when i can start watering the cuttings
So when do you first water it...the cutting. I had my established rooted plants in a grittier mix that was well draining. With barely 10% potting soil. They still rotted.
How can I make my aeoniums branch ? I have a few I grew from cuttings ( luck rather than knowledge) last year. they’re all single and I’d like to get them to branch. Also I read not to water over summer - is this right? Thanks for the interesting video.
Not all species branch, so check that the one you have is a branching variety. If it is, just remove the top rosette like in this video and it will produce side branches.
I did but you don't have to. I have left cutting material on my potting bench and it roots in full sun without any soil! They are fantastic survivors 😁
@@GrowParadise I sincerely hope so!🥴🤔🥴 I went out this afternoon and cut the flowers off about six stems off a large aeonium. I did leave a few "petals"? on the stems though.

Unfortunately you just mentioned the fleshy type of aeoniums, but not the woody ones, like the aeonium haworthii l, for example. They don't grow from a cut stem... I can't find any where information about the woody varieties and how to force branching if a stem is cut. It only grows if the tip is still green, or if it has still any leaves on it. Otherwise, it never grows new shoots. I tried for years many things, but those stems always dry out
My neighbor gave me a plant with like 12 plants growing out of it. But it has a disease or something. The stems are covered in like a brown dried hard bark substance. She had it outside in mostly shade under the porch. The whole plant is about 8 inches tall. It looks a mess. The stems need cleaning or something. It's like the stem is rotting off. Can you help.
Thank you for the information!!! Could you do a video on how to care for them for say the first month or two after propagation? Sun or shade? How often to water? How much to water? 🪴
You are so funny he said dispose of the snails which way you prefer you mean kill them and then he said he goes organic by throwing them next door i hope your neighbour is not watching or else you might get rat poison in your cookie next time he makes you some

I have always planted my cuttings right away without any problems. Now, I have Aeoniums coming out everywhere I look in my garden.

THIS WAS WONDERFUL AND SOOOO HELPFUL. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Thanks really helpful. Propagation is my new favourite hobby. I live in Spain and these plants are everywhere!!

I have dozens of those little chopsticks from all the Bonsai Jack's I've bought...very useful.
I just got 2 black ones and i hope they like it in my house. My other succulents do so thanks for the video
I have humongous slugs here on the Oregon Coast, USE. Such cute little snails (despite their plant eating tendencies!)
Thanks for the great video.
Thanks for watching 👍😁

Thank you for your video, question, when you first put the cutting in the soil, how long until you water it for the first time?

I have an aeonium which snapped leaving the main stem in the pot, will it grow on and have shoots?
Tolle Erklärung, tolle Pflanzen. Bekommen die Pflanzen nie Wasser? Meine Stiele schrumpfen und sind nicht fest. Grüße
Good to see your plantation.
Brilliant video! Thank you 😊 how long should I leave the cutting in the 9cm pot, please?
Oh I wish I could order from you. I’d love some of those cool ones.
I’ll try to find some more local to me.
They are great plants, I bet you have access to loads of great varieties that I can't get over here 😀👍
Thank you... very clear explanation.
Thanks Craig

What do u put in yhe c water?
Have you tried propagating from division or stem only?
Thank you for sharing this informative video. I have a question can we propagate aeonium by stem cuttings only without the leaves?
Hello Craig,
After you pot an Aeonium cutting, how do you water it?
I saw the perlite and compost are pretty dry. Don’t you mist it after you are done potting?
Thank you so much for the video.
Yes, My question as well. Once it is cut and added to the cactus soil do I water it or leave it dry?
My question as well!@@bruderandlouise

Bonjour, super vidéo pleine de bons conseils. Comment obtenir autant de repousses ou de rejets sur les tiges que vous avez coupées ? je n'y arrive jamais !
You have to be sure that the species you are growing will branch out, some only produce one rosette.
very helpful unfirmation.
Hi Craig
My aoniums I bought from you are growing nicely what will happen if I leave the babies on my black rose plants thanks
do we wait for roots to grow before we start watering them?

hello, thanks for your kind words 😁 unfortunately I only ship within the UK 📦🪴🌴
Hi, I used cactus soil mixed with a bit of perlite, probably 4 to 1. Should I add more perlite? I also didn’t realize you water them that much.
Absolutely nice one .
Lovely! Thanks for all the advice. Does all this advice fit for Semponium?
It should do for the branching cultivars, but Semponiums are protected by plant breeders rights and can’t be propagated for sale.

Great tips, thank you 😁
When do you water it and how often?
Do you water the cutting it right away? And sre you supposed to keep the soil moist for rooting?

Thanks for this, I separated 3 plants 2 days ago and hoping it will revive cos its become flappy and simply hanging at edge of the pot.
They usually do perk up! How's it looking now?
When can I start watering after propagating? Thanks
When is the best time to propagate. It's a bit hot where I am at the moment in Turkey 30 - 33 degrees Celsius.

Does a new head grow from the mother plant? At the part you took the cutting?
Do you water it right after you plant the cutting or do you wait few days and then water it ?
Thank you 🙏 Subscribed!
I water straight away and then leave it to dry out before watering again. 😁👍
So dont water it at all? My house is not humid like a greenhouse. Will it still root despite the dry air. And how do i know when i can start watering the cuttings

Do you water cuttings right away??
When you start watering?thank you so much
I will water around every 2-3 weeks when getting these plants to root. Once I see roots I will keep the soil slightly moist.
Vielen Dank. Super.

Hi. Thanks for the video, is it possible to propagate the black rose variety when it is only one rosette on the little plant?
So long as it is a branching variety it would still work, yes 👍
Hello! Right after you plant the cuttings on substrate, do you water them?
I did but you don't have to. I have left cutting material on my potting bench and it roots in full sun without any soil! They are fantastic survivors 😁
Will the mother plant form a new rosette where you took the cutting from?
It will grow lots of new rossetes 😄

But what about the rest of the stem after you cut the top off??? Will the left over stem grow a flower??? 🤔
Watch my latest video, it covers exactly that topic! 😁

what are you doing, why are your plants and petals so big?
Aeoniums leaf shapes and colours differs a lot.
They are beautiful plants! 😀

I would take cuttings and start over with the new plants. It is normal for the stems to go woody with age.
Thank you for the information!!! Could you do a video on how to care for them for say the first month or two after propagation? Sun or shade? How often to water? How much to water? 🪴
Great idea, I put them in bright shade. Many aeoniums grow best in shade and go dormant in the summer.
Bonjour g vu votre vidéo .vous pouvez me donner quelques boutures svp Merci
👍👍👍
I have one in my garden
They are great plants 👍
They are great plants 👍
Can you stem cuttings to propagate Aeoniums?
Yes, just remember which end is the top 👍😁
I killed 2 plants so far. Please someone explain how not to overwater them.
Water only once a week in winter, only a little. They shut down in summer so don't need much water at all.
@@GrowParadise I kept them in the house as well. May be I should leave them in the green house.
I wish!
