I like the rarities at first…and then I realized that I was only using one weapon, trying to get it to legendary as well as triple packed, and then I just rocked that one gun for the entire game (of course I have a secondary or even a third gun but you know what I mean). Part of what made the difficulty spike in previous COD zombies as well as force the player to use multiple weapons was the fear of running out of ammo, and relying on the mystery box for stronger weapons not included on the wall buys for that map. In Cold War, once I knew what weapons were worth keeping, I only used those weapons. And yah, I’d prefer some weapons over others in previous games but ultimately I was forced to switch to a weaker weapon because my strong weapon ran out of ammo. You had to actually make crucial decisions on whether or not you would sacrifice your gun to make it through the rounds or hope to god a max ammo drops. The rarities…they just feel like an excuse for including an alternative currency. The scrap. And I can say with utmost confidence that the game would be better off without scrap. Not because an alt currency is bad, but because of the things that are available to us to spend it on. Weapon rarity, armor, equipment, and score steaks. All just succeed in two things. Cluttered and easy. Now having the option of everything is cool, but I would have much rather had all of these locked being kill drops or boss drops for score streaks (which we already see in Cold War). Just, to me, instead of adding depth, it adds the mindset of “ok so I’ve got this blue rarity gun that I really like but a gold shotgun just dropped and while it is a little better I’ll lose all my upgrades on my current weapon. And I don’t necessarily like that gold gun but I’m going to grab it because in the long run it will be better than my current blue weapon. Like it feels less like a choice or a power climb and more like I’m just being filtered down the same path every game.
I was shocked when people on Twitter were saying there’s no problem with being able to pick your starting weapon or pack a punch having no animation with it being an instantaneous upgrade. So many people don’t even know what made older zombies so good
He has a few good points but his complaints about difficulty is complete bullshit: one of the most beloved maps in COD Zombies is Der Eisendrach, one of the EASIEST maps ever made and one of the most hated maps is Five, without a doubt the hardest maps with Perks
Back then they didn’t tell us everything about the game and we had to discover aspects of the game by ourselves by playing. Now we get a blog post that tells us every perk, ammo mod, and field upgrade with all of their augments. Plus every gobblegum and what they do was told to us. Getting gameplay of any zombies that wasn’t from a trailer where we rely on Milo to break it down and speculate what we might expect is a massive hype killer
I will remove as much as possible of the HUD and keep a few OG elements on. But if we get the option to literally choose an old HUD (Not by layout) I will instantly choose that.
I agree, always felt like zombies was the complete opposite of that so when you did get good at things it made you feel more rewarded but it's just a whole different game now. Still excited to play bo6 but man how the mighty have fallen
My problem is that this video is that he's trying to compare newer zombies maps to Vurrückt only. Not every single zombie's map has to follow along Vurrückt's tone. If it's the same style of a "horror" theme on EVERY map, then it gets stale and boring.
Well regarding Vanguard he is a hypocrite. The mode had Aura and a phantastic Art Design. Vanguard Game Loop was lacking efford and variety. That was the main critic. Not the story etc. And they cut content because the mode was not recieved well, which led to this stupid short Story ending
The points in the video are kinda meh. Outbreak isn’t supposed to be scary so why compare it to an older map. Zombies hasn’t been scary we only think that because we were all younger when zombies first came out, the “fear” hasn’t been in the game since we got bo2. The game has always been about being goofy and fun with a good story. It’s like evil dead ash it’s not supposed to be scary it’s just horror elements in a world that doesn’t take itself seriously
I just fundamentally disagree with this guy about zombies needing to be "fear inducing." Zombies has only been that in like a couple maps, Verruct being one of them. Zombies after WAW has never been about fear. It's been about adventure and mystery. None of the maps from BO1 and onward necessarily induce fear, with the exception of Mob of the Dead, maybe.

I wouldn’t necessarily say “zombies lost its aura over the years.” COD zombies never really had this dark menacing aura attached to its brand to begin with.. World At War was really the only game the mode had a scare factor to it, and after that every game basically dropped it from there on out. COD zombies has its own universe and aura to it that is much different than the stereotypical demonic and horror tropes that are typically attached to the zombie brand. Think of like what WWE is to wrestling, COD zombies is like that with its own imitation of the zombie concept. That’s at least what I always thought xD. If they wanted to do a slightly more scary tone they’d have brought back World At War Esq design a long ass time ago and perhaps went even deeper into resident evil type Esq territory like traditional zombie games, but I believe they wanted to eventually break out of the traditional trope and create a unique universe with a distinct identity.
