Ha, yeah, sometimes it appears drawn out pointlessly but they are just abiding by the Department for Transport code of practice. Stops them getting moaned at by their supervisors, and if something goes wrong you would want to cover your back I guess lol. You need to have cones at a specific distance apart. Traffic lights need to be on the side of incoming traffic so need to stay on the left, I guess one reason for this is because they have sensors on the top (though you can have an extra one on the right if it requires it). The blue directional arrow sign with red strip underneath was moved because it is required for facing oncoming traffic on the same side (only one is usually needed for the opposite road) so I guess he was moving it to the other side. And so on. This will all change depending on the type of road and speed limit. It sometimes looks pointless but they have to do it. It's sad I know some of this crap haha.
Just started this job It. Is. A . Fucking. GRAFT. Regularly doing 12 hour plus days. Vast majority of us work as fast as we can, we don't take any joy in holding people up but it needs to happen for the public to enjoy decent roads and services. Just show a little patience folk

One doing the work while the other sits on his phone 😂 classic road workers
Lol yes does look like that

The guy on his phone is a surveyor so nothing to do with the traffic management.
