      I agree. I didn’t touch on that aspect a lot but the warranty is really second only to a lifetime warranty and I could argue that because of their turn times you might be better off with Hilti for a professional environment.

    Been using the new 4 speed outside on a ladder with an auger the whole week. It’s negative ten Fahrenheit today, btw. The drill is light with the 4ah battery and it plows through without worrying about twisting a wrist or thrown off a roof. I wish it had an electronic clutch like the 6, but…that’s life. What’s notable about the Hilti 4 speed is that the Fein, Metabo and Festool/Protool models are concerned about going 3500-4000 rpm at the cost of torque and torque to speed ratios while Hilti used that second gearbox to gear down and give it that oomph. I’ve owned the other drills I mentioned and they can’t even reach the torque of the hilti sf 6h-22..so..just imagine how much the 10 eats their lunch in that department. Being a 3 speed like the Dewalt, the Metabo is at least useful in its top gear vs the Festool/Fein which can maybe do some cabinet screws at ridiculous rpm (not so much the festool) .

    I actually need something like this all the time. I use a lot of 5 and 6 “ whole saws (cutting into mill finish 1/4” aluminum. The GEN4 can get it done with a lot of finessing, but it’s not happy about it. I’ve always thought there was a void in the market with a pistol grip style drill that performs more like a corded drill. Because there are times when I have to switch over from cordless to corded to get some of these jobs done. Would be nice for someone to come up with a gearbox with an auto mode. If it’s a three speed you could put it into auto it would start at three, then drop down to two and then one automatically.

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools  4 місяці тому +4

      I think there is a market for it. I almost view it as something similar to where you turn to an SDS drill for masonry and concrete larger holes, you could turn to this for wood holes.

    • @evictioncarpentry2628
      @evictioncarpentry2628 4 місяці тому

      Why don't you just buy the M18 mixing drill for those size holes then.
      Hole saws are supposed to be run on low speed anyway, and it's got far more torque then a normal 1/2 drill driver.

  • @jordancobilanschi3662
    @jordancobilanschi3662 Місяць тому +1

    When it stops in wood like that using a small batter u just move a few milimeters your direction and it won't stop(if the battery is small) if you got 8ah it will smash. Anyway i had them all bosch/dewalt makita milwakee blabla nothing compares to hilti. You wanna work? You have guys and u wanna work all day, hilti is the tool. The rest will overheat, or fail and they feel like toys in comparison.

      @robertrada4783 4 місяці тому

      If you’ve used the other 4 speed drills on the market the past 15 years, you’d know why. They’re bigger, they’re bulkier, and yet they’re ultimately slower because you have to go all the way down to gear one (or minimally 1200 rpm gear 2) to do just about anything. 4000 rpm’s is pretty pointless if it doesn’t have enough torque to turn a set screw. Fein, Metabo and Festool are better built and overall nicer. But I got to give it to Hilti for delivering what I expect out of a cordless drill when you literally have two whole ass gearbox’s screwed together.

  • @rudyfromsomewhere3066
    @rudyfromsomewhere3066 4 місяці тому

    I always like the idea of drills having 3 speeds like makita made in the past or dewalt 999, but this 4speed hilti is super long, i wouldn't be surprise if it's half longer than xgt or mlk gen4,

    • @engineer_alv
      @engineer_alv 4 місяці тому

      It's 2 1/2 " longer than a M18 Gen 4 or just 1" longer than the Dewalt. It's been designed for maximum torque applications over extended periods, something that the M18 won't be able to do without getting uncomfortably hot or just cutting out

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools  4 місяці тому +1

      It makes the M18 look like a tiny drill. The repeated use is something that I think it's been designed with that in mind.

  • @chrisschott6455
    @chrisschott6455 4 місяці тому +2

    So if you compare this drill set at speed 2 which is similar to the gearing of other drills in speed 1 with that 500-600 ish rpm it does not seem as powerful. With that extra lower gear it can produce more torque therefore making it the most powerful drill out there. Too bad to have those extra gears you loose the compactness. It is nice to have those other gear options to better be able to utilize the full range of the drill to complete the job more efficiently. What would be cool is if someone could come up with a gearbox design that would let you adjust your gearbox infinitely similar to how the clutch works in the screwdriving mode.

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools  4 місяці тому

      It feels similar to the top drills in that speed 2 but you are correct, the lower speed it where it would gain the advantage over others. Nothing is stopping other companies from doing something like this, it’s just Hilti with its main focus being on more industrial applications than a company that’s also focused on people like me.
