  • Hello Friends! I just got back from a whirlwind 5 day trip to Chicago to see my pals and attend the Chicago Historical Costume Society's La Belle Epoch Ball called La Soirée Dorée. I had an amazing time! We visited the Chicago Surgical Museum, The Field Museum, Got a piercing, ate much good food, attended a ball and a tea, and took many, many pictures. We laughed a lot and generally had a grand time. Here are some clips from the weekend, i do hope that you enjoy!

Science museums are sorely underrated!! La Specola in Florence Italy was one of the most interesting museums I have ever visited in my life. I just remember wax dioramas of literally anything anatomical you can think of, rows of display cases with thousands of taxidermized animals, and artistic, medical drawings covering every single square inch of the walls. So glad y'all had a blast - it looked like it from everyone's socials!

i enjoyed the medical museum, i really liked the first half that had all those beautiful antique medicine bottles on display and looked like a pharmacy. there was one sequence i can't remember which part but near the end of the medical museum tour where one surgical tool reminded me of a pizza cutter. the scene with the dinosaurs reminded me of a mini series called Prehistoric Park. i strongly recommend watching it's a fun series, sad it was short but it was so well done the best way i can describe it. was it had a more organic feel. and the bear at the end looked so cool, i had to do a double look because i thought he had a sweater on too lol. the ball was lovely and all the gowns were so beautiful.

So I don't know how to pay this compliment without potentially also being rude
Your dress looked absolutely lovely. With your hair up and feathers on, you turned and smiled and you could have been a young lady of the era excited to go to the ball with your friends and crush(es).
You've commented on this before and I agree that us plus size ladies don't quite achieve the same oomph in pretty dresses. But there was no plus size vibe with that dress. You just looked pretty. Whatever it is with that cut it suits you tremendously. We gotta work with what we got and you worked it.

Y'all look lovely. The food layout was impressive; hope it tasted as good as it looked! Modern "dance" moves and historical attire do not work together in a flattering way, but the waltzing does! Thanks for sharing your trip!

What in the haunted pizza cutter was that tool? (I don't actually want to know)
I'm glad y'all had an amazing time! Every video makes me want to up my historical sewing game!

Looks like you had such a great time! Funny enough, I was also in Chicago this weekend, taking my kiddo to Shedd Aquarium. It was lovely. Thanks for sharing the shenanigans!
