2026 Rivian R3X High Performance Revealed

In a surprising twist at today's launch event for the new R2 SUV, an emerging automobile manufacturer threw a curveball by unveiling a smaller sibling in the crossover lineup, the R3. Though the R2 itself is a tad smaller than Rivian's debut SUV, the R1S, the R3 goes a step further in compactness. Rivian's CEO, RJ Scaringe, noted that the R3's base is five inches shorter than the R2's, yet they both share the same underlying architecture. The R3 also offers versatility in power, with options for single, double, or triple motor setups.
The R3's design diverges towards that of an enhanced hatchback, notably featuring an upward-opening rear glass, distinguishing it from conventional hatchbacks. Among the highlights is the introduction of the R3X version, which pitches itself as a nimble rally car. This variant boasts a triple motor system, upsized wheels, and an increment in ground clearance for a sportier stance.
Rivian has kept the finer points of the R3 close to its chest, revealing only that it will come in at a lower price point than the R2, which is estimated to be around $45,000. The timeline for the R2's delivery is set for the first half of 2026, suggesting a waiting period before the R3, particularly the R3X model, becomes available. Currently, Rivian has not opened reservations for the R3, and attempts to seek more information on their website about the crossover were met with an unavailable page at the time of inquiry.

There is the Single Motor version, the R3X is the high performance 3 motor version. You do have that choice.

Not quite getting the need for 0-60 in under 3 seconds hoopla, 90 percent of drivers can't handle a car that goes 0-60 in 10 seconds.

I don’t think it’s because it’s important, but because with electric it isn’t challenging to do. So it’s a simple way to flex the performance.

@@skmk88 LOL 45K is the starting price for the bigger R2 TWO. This is the R3 THREE model which is smaller which should be about 40K drive away for the RWD single motor verson. Obviously this 3x Motor high performance version is going to be very expensive most likely 60K. But that will be a very small proportion of the sales. Single and Dual motor will be vast majority of the sales. This is not about stock prices, this is about building out a range of products.
