We fix a 2002 Trailblazer we call TrailHawk the upper rear control arms failed HARD. There is no way to get the parts in town so lets pull out the welding cart and make it strong again
Enjoy

Thanks, today had both of the control arms replaced on the rear. Both were broken.
Drives much better, with 161,000 miles. Apparently not a greasable joint.
Thanks for the video.
How much was your service mines literally broke yesterday felt like somebody rear ended me I have the same year and mileage as well
The left side upper in my 2003 broke in the same spot. The arm did not stay perpendicular and knocked the pinion angle off enough to cause a vibration and howling noise intermittently that actually sounded like is was coming from the front of the truck.
Yah this was making an awful repair it literally took a hour to repair once we could got the parts
Dang they both broke great fix that's probably way stronger then original
Well the owner did admit to possibly doing some donuts 🍩 in a gravel lot awhile back so if the one was broke that's probably what did the second one in 😅
Thanks for this- just discovered I got the same problems on my 2003 blazer
Thanks for watching
did u drive with the broken? technically as long as the lower arms are still good, the axel cant detach from frame right?
@@mahalewellen4912 Unbeknownst to me I drove it for months that way ( also had launched our boat a number of times with it that way) and noticed that the rear end felt kind of "funny" when I went over a bump but other than that it seemed to be just fine. ( Maybe a higher power was looking out for me during this time?)
Nevertheless I replaced both of them and it has been fine, that is until my son took out a light pole several weeks ago and now I will be replacing the front bumper, power steering cooler, radiator, shroud and fan. 🙄
@@JohnB-kv4gf thanks. me too it has been atleast 3 months that i thought there was a problem with my shocks in the rear. so i ordered some, and when 8 went to replace them i found the 2 broken upper arms. your experience re assures me that i can drive her another week till my replacements from amazon arrive. i ordered both upper and lower, since i will have the wheels off i will replace both just to be safe. thanks
Apparently not a lot of welders have seen this.
Like you said, it's temporary and he's going to put new ones on when he gets them I guess was the gist of it but that's barely more than tack weld.
Power seemed quite low and was little to no penetration on that.
You really can't get a strong as original or stronger that way just rolling around the circumference.
It might hold for a while especially if you don't take off but, to make a durable repair you would need to grind the tips of the ride down to a point or a flat ended point and then weld them up with a lot more heat and material.
In that situation you could also add bracing to the outside also since there's plenty of room.
You've come a long ways sir!
Metaly bits haha Great fix brother
Thanks sometimes you just have to make things work
Don't mind the cut off e-brake cable.
Nice work brotha 💪🏼🤜🏼🤛🏼🍻
thanks. did u drive with them broken? mine are broken , since a month already. is it dangerous?
Cool vid !!
Thanks man
For a temporary fix I think I would have put a pipe sleeve over it
Yah crazy enough he never bought the parts for 6 months, drove it everywhere, and never had a problem. it took so much less time to just put upper controls on it working on others things when they have zero funds it's time consuming to day the least
Hello, has it happened to you that you are driving and you pass through an irregular road and you hear that the driver's door moves when passing through irregular roads, do you know what it could be?
I miss it
my coworker has one of these but in a SS model and they are selling it
SS would be way cooler thanks for watching
I got in my new lower rear trailing control arms but BOTH upper control arms had the J clip nut STRIPPED!! So I cracked the bolt free and the bolt just spins in that clip. very annoying. There's no way to fix it - I can't tighten them now either. Luckily the control arms seem to be in fine condition - as I had been treating them with phosphoric acid before to stop any rust. The car does seem to drive better with the new lower control arms. Still now I have a box of brand new upper rear control arms - kind of frustrating. Maybe I should just recycle them at the scrap place? I guess I'll save them - who knows - maybe someone will figure out HOW to free that stripped nut clip bolt!! Got any ideas? thanks
I hate when clip nuts fail I have gotten things like that out before but it gets intense. Usually need a torch or a cutting device. Then remove everything even if you have to melt it out then replace clips and bolts its definitely the caveman approach but it's usually all you can do. Thanks for watching
@@DudesWithWrenches thanks for the feedback - luckily the control arm is not rusted out. haha.
Definitely would of made an excuse to not fix and pull out the motor for another ride
I have been thinking about using an inline six 4200 for something
@@DudesWithWrenches that could work
