i used to wear the crab set cause i thought it was cool and ngl, his assessment in spot on. i am pretty bad at sea of thieves pvp
I actually never bought the kraken or crab set, I did buy the reapers pjs, however, I took it off because I didn’t like the style
He never even mentioned mine

I bought the Kraken outfit because I thought it looked cool. My broski bought the crab. Geez, this was accurate.
Just something to note here, the implication is that bad players usually use certain cosmetics, not that if you use certain cosmetics you're a bad player. If you just really really love the kraken outfit (for some reason), go ahead and wear it. You might throw someone off by making them think you're a worse player than you are.
That's... actually a kinda fun idea. Just throw on the sea dog set (for both the ship and my outfit) and do stuff like leave the ship anchored with sails down, just to lull other players to a false sense of security. I kinda wanna try that now.
I’ve done that same thing with my purple PL outfit, I just like it that much. One time I got specifically called out by some sweaty arena tuckers in adventure for using it, lets just say they weren’t laughing when my majestic purple outfit was the last thing they saw before getting spawn camped and having their ship sunk.
Yeah, I just wish @Blurbs actually said that. I wear whatever the hell I want that I think fits my Pirate's backstory in my head, I have never once given thought to what other people see or think of it.

Dirty rotten bilge rat pants, redcoat admiral shirt, imperial sovereign boots, and the hard earned stuff being the DA belt, DA face paint, Season 1 PL exclusive hair, and to top it all off, the gold curse.
I have an idea for a video. What if you asked for people to submit clips of their PVP and you run through the clips and say what they did right and wrong. So they get a more personalized understanding.
This is a good idea. Kinda like coaching.

It's crazy how far some of them go just to obviously aproach your boat and get 1 tapped by a blunderbuss. Had a guy row over to a skeleton fleet in the middle of the ocean just to tuck on me lol

@@retriggered yeah arena has been helpful, just coming back to the game after the initial learning -> burnout -> comeback. I am now at the comeback phase, I liked arena though but there is so much new stuff going on

Decking out the most hidious looking ship, I feel ya man, it's great.
Stupid, flamboyant or outrageous styles are a good indicator that you're about to encounter some form of frustrating meta. 50/50 they're a kamikaze type.
Nothing beats dressing like a clown and bullhorning Enya in a piercing falsetto at passing ships. Screw your cosmetics and your loot, it's all fake. The real treasure is the nerds you confuse along the way.

I joined slooper on party boat cosmetics, who looked like circus clown and had everything on lvl 75. He was just doing PVE, we did merchant emissary, shrines and killed ashen lord. Lovely voyage.
This was extremely helpful me and my friends are planning on playing sometime and I've never played before.

I dress like a hobo and my ship is a mismatch of all kinds of sets. I actually try not to equip anything rare or difficult to get speficially to throw people off who might be trying to judge skill level. Beware the sea hobo!

My crew wears the ceremonial admiral set and the redcoat set. It’s mad fun just running around like Cornwallace and pvping

@@KopperNeoman Right? Cornwallis freed many enslaved people....and then Washington turned around and did the opposite. Mr. Sinnott should have helped sink what was left of the French fleet. Maybe the British would have won, and that would have been better for thousands and thousands of people.
Tip: if you’re boarding a stationary sloop but they’re watching ladders or you don’t want to use ladders, you can board using their rowboat if they have one.
Or harpoons if the waves are high enough

When looking up PVP Tips for this game, you were the first channel that came up. I love the way you do your videos and the intro is so simple, yet perfect. Keep up the great work.
I personally like the pirate legend outfit because purple is my favourite color so sometimes in my opinion cosmetics may just be what they like instead of that they just want to show off

Same here, I just got PL but I'll probably keep parts of that set around since I just think it looks awesome. The gold chains are pretty sweet too. If I ever run into Blurbs and he thinks I'm even more of a noob than I really am, then that's only working in my favor!
I just wear whatever i like, Same goes for the cosmetics on my ship, So if i end up looking like a newb or a tryhard, Or someone that's skilled at pvp or something else, So be it lol
This. I LOVE the Glorious Sea Dog on the ship, and mixed the GSD jacket with other stuff. This doesn't mean I'm good at pvp tbh. So if you wanna think I'm good, so be it x2
As a pretty new player I can confirm that this is right. The second I got like 20k gold I spent on Kraken peg leg, eyepatch, and hook, because as a new player those thing seem really cool
I like using the bilge rat clothes because they're simple and look decent in my opinion. I'd mix and match parts of each bilge rat set together.

When it comes to ship cosmetics, I think it's kinda stupid that everyone is judged by the skins they are using. I just wanna have the coolest looking ship possible, not trying to avoid to look like a noob nor trying to look like a pro

I still wear essentially the same outfit Ive been wearing since my 2nd or 3rd week in the game and Ive been playing off and on since the Devil's Roar Expansion. Never found anything else that I cared to equip.
The reaper pj's are not scary when you are alone but when you are on a galleon with 4 players in it, they hit different

The pre judgements are a funny one. Running the splashtail costume and laying waste to everything is particularly strange to see.
As someone who wears tucklord gear, very accurate description. I've managed to pull off some crazy steals and have a lot of stories to tell about successful sneaks, but I am mid-tier at pirate-to-pirate PVP at best. I know my limits and try to choose my fights, hence the stealth gameplay, but a lot of times I bite off more than I can chew.
And I'd be lying if I said UA-cam didn't influence my decision to try stealth.

I think people tend to forget that some switch their outfit and ship to match what they are doing. If collecting animals for merchant i always use lucky rover set with bunny cannons and parrot wheel and capstan and my default clothes. reaping i go with an aggressive look. ashen stuff in the devils roar etc. I have a goal and i have a theme :D
i love the legendary outfit. solely because its exactly my tone of purple. also i am actually experienced. 90% of the time when i play, i fly reapers emissary hunting down ships.
As a new person to the game, I went for the mercenary set because I like the gun skin for it
Whenever I see a Reaper's Mark flag, I assume they're new.
there is a lot of commendations that need you to fly the Reaper's Mark
It is worth noting that the soul flame set especially is more likely to be a newer player as it came with the game on the sets release
I'm usually wearing the reaper outfit or the PL clothes specifically because I want people to underestimate me at first glance and mess up.
i usually use the crab set for that (I have it from my early days haha)
I usually wear a sea dog jacket with pirate lord hat. It just looks cool in my opinion
Parrot set: although these people might meme and troll with their crew they usually try to be friendly towards everyone, always expect them to give you a piece of food as a peace offering, however if you betray them they will often become vicious and chase you until they lose sight of you so unless you want an alliance with them stay away or sink them before you accept the peace offering

I bought this game yesterday and of course I watched some of your tips before playing and I use default ship and wear full sovereign outfit and afterwards I fought with BIG SHIP and 2 crews they all wearing, idk but very shiny and cool weapon skin, and me win thanks to this youtuber
Ok but to be fair I wish you could still wear Pirate Legend gear without being clowned on cause while not hard to get it just looks nice.

Great video i loved it and I have some things to say, if you see skiny male characters or female skiny characters with the menders jacket,or the sovereign hat with mercenary pants or something like that and with the golden curse then just leave the game immediately they always double gun and has like god like aim and pretty good ping so they can quick scope you before you can breathe btw if you can make a video about movement in a fight i would be saved cause im pretty good and pretty experienced player but i have way to bad movement so i die too much 😒
honestly just learn what movement is effective against what weapons. sword, run away and mix it up with strafes and different moves, doublegunners are easy to gauge too, mostly the same stuff but way more strafes and jukes.

A. Launch as soon as the game starts.
B. Get your mast down and launch to farm/camp.
I’ve found a way to counter both.
Costume - wise there is only one I run - warsmith (dunno if that is the correct translation, I'm talking about the skeleton one). Been playing almost since the game came out commercially, but i fell in love with that set ^^

You were correct on the kraken stuff because when I was new I gravitated toward it but now I have a ghostly mercenary fisher look
The kind of player I usually look out for are the ones with ugly, hobo or easy to get outfits with very few hard to get cosmetics. For example people that only wear the pirate legend eyepatch
I'm still new, just learned the infamous sword lunge. Can't do it reliably enough for a fight yet, but one day. I'm still pretty bad at pvp. Can't aim cannons for nothing. I do block with the sword, but I don't know my way around a fight well enough to run circles around people yet.
My clothing of choice? Pirate lord jacket, white undershirt, hunter hat, I forget what pants I'm running specifically, sea dog boots. Not a bad outfit, if I say so myself. Not super flashy, but more than minimalist. Very down to earth look.
I just bough my first ship asthetic. It's the rose hull. I love the red!
Update: If they have dark adventurer cosmetics, run for your life.

Either they're good enough at PvP to regularly turn both their own profit and that of the haul of their enemies, or they solely PvE and rarely get into fights.
Yea everybody I see wearing DA set are blunder sword users that miss most to every one of there shots, and when they run out of ammo, spam right click like there life depends on it

I rock the Black Dog set. I’m not the best at PvP, but I’m pretty good at ship combat. I wear the set simply because it’s the best looking set out there.
I just wanna say, everything this guy is saying, atleast when it comes to pirate clothing, these are all STRICTLY stereo-typical it's really easy to look at a cosmetic and say "oh he's definitely dogshit ez claps" but at the end of the day always be ready for whatever, I play on PC servers while on console because the reason I have gotten better over the years is because normally on these servers players are better (fps advancements etc) but other than that I have nothing to say, great video partner continue to educate the young scallywags and seadogs joining The Sea Of Thieves Community!

I've found the better players don't use titles, that being said obviously you'll come across players who are new and haven't unlocked any.
Gold swabbie = give up
Legend of the sea of thieves = sink with one hand
I think some good notes of cosmetics to look out for:
Anyone wearing that ugly blue Castaway Blige Rat Jacket (unofficially known as the TDM jacket), or anyone with tattoos, gold curse, no shirt /exposed chest is more likely than not a good player. There are always the times when you encounter player with any of those apparel and are still bad. But if you see someone like that, generally be ready for a fight.
Also I have never seen a good crew with the Ori/Ancestral ship set.
Facts, but more often than not castaway bilge rats are mega toxic.

If they use the Triumphant Sea Dog ship set, they probably suck.
Now, if they wear the hat/gloves and a gold curse while shirtless, that's a different story.
To be fair it does take a good amount of skill to acquire the triumphant sea dog clothes

Feeling real called out here. I run a mix of pirate legend, sea dog and nightshine parrot cosmetics because they look good together. Pity there arent more nice purple and gold cosmetics, or blue and silver. My favourite colour scheme is pretty restricted to the relatively new ones [except for the Triumphant set, but good lord I can't really bother with that :V]

I am a Pirate Legend but I still liked the Ashen set to this day , due to the Eastern Dragon feel, it is the only set that I felt sorta represents both my culture and skill, as the other eastern sets are premium.

You can cancel the weapon change and scope animation windup by sprinting first.
Other weapon attack > switch > sprint > aim > shoot
aiming witch center screen is recommended

this is the most useful skill to have. always overestimate low decor ships cause people might be trying to disguise but never underestimate decked out ships

The other day, my crew and I went full "noob camo": crappy ship cosmetics, reaper costume and all.
Funny to see people approaching, totally underestimating what's expecting them.

The thing is no matter what they are wearing, you should always be wary. It could be a pvp sweat lord dressing purposely as a reaper or wearing the kraken outfit to make them seem bad and bring your guard down a bit

Here's a bit of a tip with Athena ship cosmetics: If it's the full set, they're most likely PvE/Alliance server plebs who are trying to flex. However. If you see just the hull and figurehead, mixed in with other rare cosmetics (my friend loves his wandering reaper sails for this, the double scythe sail)... They usually are looking for a fight, and are good at it. Either they can't afford dark adventurers, or just feel the hull and other cosmetics don't fit the look.
Also, I love the Jolly Roger. People underestimate me, taking me for some noob. Yet it's the opposite.
We can't forget about the duke ship set, most people I encounter with it are relatively new

Biggest fashion drip is picking one that you think looks good, not worrying about flexing or trying to be stealth

A crew came up to me expecting to take some trade goods from me. When they boarded, they only found skulls. They did not take a single one and only consulted me with the fact that i was decked out in grand admiral attire, my ship was flying the merchant alliance cosmetics, and I had a merchant alliance flag up. When they left, my friend told me to pick him up at an island. He took all of the treasures that could be sold at the merchant alliance from their ship, which put us up to a emissary grade 4 and we sold it for double. In the end, I like the grand admiral cosmetics but love fighting the undead.
I used kraken outfit for a while cuze it looked sick to me😂😂, now I wear Athena costume to show off, my dude got me for real

Been playing for like 4 days and got to 25+ in Order of Souls, 20+ in Gold Hoarders and still
I genuinely like the pirate legend outfit
I’ve noticed that the really scary players wear a mix of rare items or just wear one small part of a rare set like a belt or boots, while pirates with full black dog/Full TSD/Full ferryman or whatever don’t have many other rare things and really want to show off the one rare set they do have
Im either wearing the most recent renown 100 unlock, or some mishmash outfit to compliment my mishmashed ship cosmetics. Recently, I've had a thing for the color blue

So i just started playing the game a little over a month ago and the first outfit I got was the crab lord fit and then the kraken set 😂 its because its bright and relatively cheap, so its the first full set that i saw because it stands out against all of the other darker colored clothing and i like customization games that have a full set of certain clothing. Also the crab claw is a nice touch so we think it looks pretty cool, but since then ive keep being more interested in many more clothing types for different reasons
