[BRxV] MWO Build & Skills : Ol' Dakka Night Gyr still a BEAST

  • Some builds have been powercreeped and become far more rare on the battlefield but are still legit! The Dakka Night Gyr is one of them (even without the Jade Kite LT) with the RFL-IIC doing it's job and arguably better. But with the ECM of the NTG-H, this build is still very violent!

    Ranged combat is really one of the playstyles I avoid but sometimes I feel it's good to play outside your comfort zone or the game gets boring. And... LEARN NEW THINGS!! :D

    Hi Brios, just because it is the second video I saw it: In the skill tree, in the sensor section you can actually replace the first target decay with the sensor range just below the first node. 7% more sensor range and target decay is mostly used for LRM/ATM over hills shooting.

    i hadnt played much ntg at the time you put this out. but after psr reset, i decided to try a lot of the mechs i hadnt played much historically. i have to say, once you spend enough time with the ntg it is a monster. you just cant pilot anything else or you become super conscious of how slow and awkward it is.
    i tried playing it the way you played it here, and I was somewhat successful but inconsistent. i dont think i'm a good enough pilot to make up for how bad it is defensively. so i spent a week in the testing grounds looking for places i could park it in cover and overwatch the areas where the fight/nascar typically happens. i tried to find 3 good ones and some backups on each map.
    i set it up with 6x ac2/uac2 and play it like a dire wolf, fire support and suppression from a variety of angles and distances. with the jjs and ecm as defensive tools its incredibly effective and fun! with me piloting it (i'm ok but not good) its averaging over 500 damage per match. - morosis

      That's a wise thing to do. Long ranged combat is far from my preferred playstyle but is also pretty hard in QP as its just rotato all match. Slow mechs suffer too.
      But I do like ECM on ranged builds to avoid detection. Always fun! :) - BrioS

    Night Gyrs also do not interact thermally with the environment. Heat management is the same on all maps. I run 2uac10 and 2 erll with ECM on the H, and it's been pretty solid. Also went full speed tweak.

      That is a nice build also along with the dual Guass + ERLL/PPC combos. They can do pretty good builds (including the irritating, overly common LRM/ATM builds). I just dun do well with its poor mobility :( - BrioS

    Gave me a good laugh lol. Night Gyr was one of the first mechs I got a couple of months ago because I wanted to do double gauss double ERLL and get headshots. Then I realised that the Gauss cd bonus went away once you switch pods :( now I dont know what to do with it since i made my marauder 2c D the same build. Missiles maybe? I dont like ac2 of any sort i worked out haha. At least the mech is versatile.
    I often get myself killed on a gauss mech by running to the front when noone else will push up and I realise im in the worst spot possible XD

      It is versatile just such poor mobility! :(
      If you want headshots, go dual Heavy Gauss. FNR-5 is popular for that. Everytime there is a headshot requirement during an event, all the Fafnirs crawl out from fatmechhell.
      As for NTG, a popular build and a real beast is the ATM12 x4 with 9 tons of ammo. - BrioS

      @@ClanBRxV thanks very much for the recommendation, I will try that. I was thinking the LRM build that comes on the D i think because it doesnt seem quick enough to get in a good range, but I'll try the ATM build first.
      And yes I bought the Faf-5 and love it with its massive H gauss cooldown. Much easier at close range too! You're good to play with, always give good instruction and communication like on polar the other day. Half the time I feel like im talking to myself haha

    Shorter on ammo than you might like, but plenty sufficient for a 12v12 quickplay.
    I find the standard AC2's to be better for more consistent DPS and less heat. The UAC's are just for slot reasons, treat them like standard AC's (single fire group only).
    NO CHAINFIRE! Just a single fire group for all weapons, 2nd fire group for arms only.

      Yeah, the Jade Kite LT can mount an extra ballistic. Don't really like Night Gyrs so Jade Kite is low on my list to spend on. - BrioS

    The meta build you’re referring to is actually 5AC2 1UAC2

      Well, there is that too. This was the older version which some ran before adapting the build to account for jam chance.
      Neglected to mention explictly that this version is improved with the -H ECM which imho makes all the difference :D - BrioS

    Not that I'm a good pilot anyway, but with AC2s I'm just awful. 8 AC2 Dire, 5 AC2 Gyr, 3 AC2 Dragon, none of them work for me. LB2s almost as bad. It all feels like I'm just sandblasting some paint at 1km. AC10s, LB10s, or AC5/10 combinations feel so much better.

      AC2s are a sustained dps (sdps) weapon which can deal a tremendous amount of damage over a prolonged period. Sadly this means a lot of facetime which can be hard to manage, especially against opponents which have high burst damage and have the accuracy to target individual components well.
      As a consequence, sdps weapons do very well at lower tiers and suffer at higher tiers.

      I suffer in mechs with poor mobility and Night Gyr has horrible mobility for its tonnage. - BrioS

      Too much flight sims in my youth? (Shoutout to IL-2 and Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe)
      Mainly for suppression. That continuous knocking to throw off aim of the enemy and force them back so my team can do what they need to do. Also if I slow down my chain fire, by the time I fire my "last" uAC2, the first one is ready and hence will not jam. At least in theory.
      Admittedly not as effective, damage-wise, as group fire but reduces the effectiveness of enemy return fire (eg. gauss, ERPPC) on me and the enemy.

      @@ClanBRxV LOL, showing my age but F-15 strike eagle 3 was more my jam along with wing commander.
      fully understand your reasoning. I am a deep fried potato at this game so def wasnt giving you any crud re playing ability
      i am generally run around with as many SRMS as i can pack on and say surprise shotgun (6 streak 6 cyclops is hella fun)
      i was probably the reason they nerfed rocket packs...running an archer with 8 rocket 20's and a rocket 10....face hugging direwhales and then pressing the fire button...i could have run a fish and chip shop of the salt that produced
      if you havent noticed i aim about as well as a stormtrooper

      @@kamujian Well wasn't insulted so no worries there. But seriously a lot of people do group fire for that focused damage. I guess I am approaching it differently.
      They nerfed rockets because during the playtesting, a LCT-3S with 80 rockets would basically one-shot a fresh Atlas with stock rear armor (which is loads!). We did it so often! Glad those are nerfed though because in their original form they were so wrong....
      PS: F-15 Strike Eagle was awesome, so was Wing Commander (which I adored) but I like those low tech WW2 flight sims.
      IL-2 was especially fun in multiplayer because of the lack of time compression in multi-player so it was basically 30-60 mins of flying to target and once we make contact, my wingman would mistake me and shoot me down with his first burst. Then it's another 30-60 mins of spectator mode and chatting till we reach the airfield and all my buddies crash and burn on landing. True story!! Happened more than once... hahahaa.... - BrioS
