I want to see Beryl speak Hindi some day. It was so sweet that she and her mother in law spoke in the languages they're comfy with and yet still understood eachother 😊
I am learning Hindi so we can speak together more and more but my husband helps me when I get lost
@@BerylShereshewsky your efforts count. You'll make mistakes but that's the part of learning. Hope you have fun learning 😊💙

She’ll lose a lot of creative control of her show goes on Netflix. They might water the creativity down, having immediate audience feedback will be lost, the interactive calls to action in the show etc. and make it a conventional Netflix show (suitable for binge watching), which honestly sometimes sucks. Might be better if she stays on YT, and scales up the channel like Rhett and Link.
Can we appreciate how much effort and creativity she puts in each of her videos
And yet, keeps them simple and to the point!
As someone who makes paneer everyday at home, it feels good to be represented 💙🌸
Everyday ?
daily dead ass?
@@tazeenalshifa8084 yess, it's called 'chana' from where I'm from, the eastern part of India and we make it everyday. It's super easy and it's just a convenient way to introduce dairy into your diet without having to chug two glasses of milk everyday.
@@priyambadatalapatra3779 omg you're so patient that's amazing ty!
I love to hear comments like this Priyambada 🥰❤ representation is so important
Literally in tears, Beryl's videos make me feel like we're a huge community united by 'food' and this community is non-judgmental and we are free to express ourselves through our food. People are out there fighting wars over the silliest of things and Beryl's just here spreading happiness, Lots of Love to you Beryl.
i am Polish and my Silesian family was making this cheese at home, they were calling it just "white cheese" it's incredible how same recipe can exist in different parts of the world independently. also they used that liquid left after cheese was made to add to bath water, apparently it was very good for skin
:)
I'm Latvian/Canadian & we grew up making this too - lol also just called it white cheese
@SANSKAR GUPTA gs0801cs181071 arya only mean wise mean, there is no aryan race
Most Indo-European cultures have a version of fresh cheese like paneer. It was a simple way to preserve food. It was also more portable than milk.
Lol in my home also we use paneer water in beauty regiments.. ladies if u have skin issues just use it .. it's amazing..
Here in Austria you can do Hüttenkäse similar ways but I like to cook Paneer next to milk I also add greek yoghurt to get a more fluffy texture.
You can use the water ( Molke /serwatka /Whey). If I dont use salt in the making we drink it mixed with Mango juice. If I add the herbs then I use it to make sauces.
I was really upset when Great Big Story was cancelled. But your channel feels like the best part of GBS preserved for us. Your ability to take something as simple as food and form rich narratives and tell the stories of people in such an expressive way is truly amazing.
I use the leftover WHEY to knead the flour instead of water it makes your rotis and naans fluffy and mellow.
Seconded!

Good idea💡
Bro, that's a great idea. I never thought about that. Definitely gonna try. 🙏
Paneer comes from the Persian word 'Panir' which means cheese. In Iran, anything that is cheese is called paneer/panir including cottage cheese.
that's so interesting!!
Sonia Chef Ranveer brar taught this 😁😁😁
Many persian words have Indian origin but this word paneer became more prominent bec. Mughals only officially used and spoke Persian.
In Bharata, it was known as Dadhanvat or Kshirprakara, verse 48.18 of Rigveda mentions Dadhanvat, and it used to be of two types, with pores and without pores.
Of course its Persian as with a LOT of north west Indian cooking.. But the paneer has genuinely become its own thing after entering India.. Thats the power of cultural transformation and the ease with which indians adopt stuff NOT originally of their own culture. Like many said, the cheese takes on the flavour of the spices its made with. The same thing has happened within India.. With many regional dishes taking inspiration from each other.
@@commanderofkesariyaknights Thats interesting
We actually have this kind of cheese in Indonesia, but we made it from buffalo milk and for curdling agent we use papaya leaf. Its called danke from south sulawesi. Or other regional version from north Sumatra called Dalli ni horbo
Is it similar to dadiah from West Sumatera? Because I had that one, but I never tried others.
That's so cool! I love how so many far away cultures have such similarities when it comes to food!
i didn't know that! thank you for teaching me something new!!!
May be because earlier in Indonesia there is Hinduism( means indian guys came)
@@theghostofsunflower2760 Or may be we learnt from the Indonesians? It works both ways, you know?
Actually, scratch that. It was the Portuguese who brought it to India.
Can we just talk about how sweet the mother-in-law is.

It's the fact that Beryl is building a true community
When people wanna know the difference between cultural appreciation, and appropriation I will forever link them your channel. I have never seen someone so authentically interested in other cultures and foods, their origins, and the desire to share that knowledge with others, while still giving a voice to those that belong to those cultures. You and everyone in this community are a huge inspiration! Congrats on your amazing community you've made Beryl! I wish all the success to you and everyone here!
Coming from the Middle East (home to cheeses such as labbaneh) it was strange to hear that some do not consider paneer a cheese. Ricotta is made very similarly (only a with the slight variation of adding cream, as well as milk). Soft, fresh, unaged cheeses are the best!
Lebnah is the most amazing cheese in the world and I'll stand by that until I die. It's my favourite part of being Arabi.
most do not consider paneer as cheese coz its basically compressed (or dehydrated) milk curdles....to make cheese u further process these curdles but in paneer making process u don't....so technically its just solid milk curdle :)
@@sportsstories187 There are lots of unaged or very little aged cheeses. Mozzarella is made this way only it's warmed and stretched and some salt is added
@@SilvaDreams That's totally true so that's what i meant by processing the curdles, In mozzarella, the warming n stretching actually further cooks the curdles evenly n thats what gives it the texture n the springiness to the cheese
I feel like anything made with curds is cheese. Maybe I'm offending cheese lovers 😂
Okay, so the Willy Wonka remix was everything!! Yes for the “paneer alliterations”
That made my day!
Could a paneer themed boat ride through the tunnel be next? 🤔
We have this type of cheese in Romania too, it is called 'branza dulce' (sweet cheese). We usually make sweet dishes with it, but I love to mix it with sour cream and a little salt, and eat it with bell papers or on a toast. I love this channel (I am a new subscriber), because the difference between people and nations grows smaller ❤❤❤

My mom is making paneer Paratha with green chutney now lol 😂
my favorite form of paneer
Loved loved loved this video. As a North Indian, Paneer is a big part of our food, especially in festivities. It's just great to see you and your mother in law sharing it with the world.
Also Beryl you can add a tbsp of whey to your homemade yogurt to preserve it longer in your fridge naturally.
Get out! Thanks for the tip!
Beryl you should make a public Spotify playlist where everyone can add songs and we can listen to the whole world's music
That would be amazing
we love the representation 🇮🇳👄🇮🇳
Speak for yourself you sjw
And here I was, being happy someone finally cut their sandwiches down the centre
Your Mother In Law is darling! Please thank her for sharing her recipie!!! I really enjoy seeing such a lovely variety of people in your videos. I always walk away with a full heart!
the best description of paneer is that it's a cheese curd (like cottage cheese)- it's the base for most cheeses. hope this helps the next time you have to describe it!
I'm gonna have to make paneer now, aren't i?
Yesss
How wonderful that your mother in law was a part of this! ❤️
I am a paneer lover! a paneer bhurji stan! I've grown up seeing my mother making paneer at home EVERYDAY!! I literally used to have paneer bhurji like 3 times a week in my school lunch box haha!! AND I'M SO HAPPY THIS VIDEO EXISTS!! IT FEELS SO GOOD 😭😭
💜💜💜
Panner is one of the most versatile ingredients. You can not only make snacks(like paneer tikka and paneer bhurji toast, like the one Beryl made) and main course dishes(like paneer butter masala and palak paneer) , but also desert(like rasgulla and gulab jamun). Love it a hundred percent.
Gulab jamun is made from milk solids (khoya) rather than curdled milk.
Kalojam or kalajamun is made from Paneer, not Gulab jamun.
In turkish we call this type of cheese minci (Pronounced Minji). We eat it with bread or crumble it into pastries and borek. We normally split the milk by fermenting it (same method as making yogurt) but vinegar and lemons juice work too. When I make yogurt sometimes it splits so i just cook it and make it into paneer (or minci). It’s so interesting to see how the same thing is used so differently across cultures!
Cool to realize that i've made paneer without even knowing that it was a product so famous in India 😂
I mean it is a simple unaged cheese, we made this type of cheese as a kid but we added salt.
Lol
@@SilvaDreams the cheese itself is very simple but the cuisines it entails in india are mind blowing...thats why its famous...paneer is like chicken for vegetarians...
@- king- yeah i guess
@Om wow. genius...
Do not give into the triangle sandwich crowd! Somebody has to keep the rectangle sandwich alive!
Absolutely!
Damn right!
YES!!!!!
Resist!
well in Romania we call it Branza de casa. My grandma always had one hanged to drain in the pantry. we used to eat it in cooked food or pies.
I’m so so glad that you didn’t cut that song!!! It’s amazing hahaha. Also making paneer is a lot like making tvorog, except I think it’s a bit more solid. Who knew that was such a versatile item in such different parts of the world?! Also, do you have any suggestions for how I could try to make vegan paneer? Would soy milk be an acceptable swap for cow’s milk?
You can use soy milk but than you won't be making paneer, you'd be making tofu. Because tofu is made from soy milk. That's the only difference between paneer and tofu.
@@panktimodi1023 Haha wow that completely didn’t cross my mind there... Makes sense though! Thanks!
Tofu works as a substitute for paneer, but it doesn't have the same texture. I wouldn't use a very firm tofu, i would use one that's tender and that crumbles easily.
@@panktimodi1023 i didn't know that! thank you for teaching me something new lol
I so appreciate your mother-in-love being in the video explaining how to make paneer! She is lovely! I don't have an Indian grocery near-by, I would have to drive over an hour one way to buy some paneer. I'll look back over the different types of using paneer again, but the street toast recipe is definitely doable to start. So excited to make this. I loved watching and listening to the cultural importance of paneer. This was wonderful!
You can totally do it it’s so easy!

Ahhhhh! PANEER! For me, it represents HOME. Comfty, Cosy, in a curry, from the God's! I miss India so much!❤
We’ve always called it farmers cheese. I make it all the time with my goats milk. I can’t believe it’s the same thing! You opened me up to a ton of new foods to try with it!
I love how you upload a video each time I sit to eat my lunch
Paneer reminds me of Nigerian Wara cheese haha. We use it in soups, stews and sides.

Ooh, I'd love to see another series based on how different cultures make basically the same thing.
The foods, the recipes, the cultures, and all y’all’s faces make me feel so incredibly happy! 💯🥰
i love beryl so much! her content of amazing! this video has my heart
In Norway, we traditionally make brown cheese out of whey, by slowly boiling it down until it caramelizes! Although it is called a "cheese", it is actually sweet and caramel-y, kind of like dulce de leche!
That's fascinating!
What do you call that? I feel like this would be something I'd love to try.
omg please share the name or recipe with us cause I’m so intrigued to try it!
In India we make that too, it is bases for many many Indian sweet dishes. I would spoil the milk on purpose and force my mother to make this when I was a child 😅😜
It’s called prim, if you keep it more as a spread, but brunost (literally “brown cheese”) if you press it into a block.
Being a Vegetarian Indian I can say that I can't live without Potatoes and Paneer.
“Food has become the fulcrum of our interactions” 🙌🙌❤️❤️👍👍
I love what you are doing on your channel. I'm super interested in different food cultures and the histories. So yours is a very fun one to learn from
Paneer, the tofu of India-Made from milk!! I need to make a fresh batch of this and try to see what I can do with it!
Paneer is indeed joy.Thank you everyone that contributed
Girl, you keep doing you. All your videos are great! I truly look forward to your videos.
i'm doing my homework which basically stressed me out and definitely beryl videos always bring up the mood.
so paneer is tofu as they are both cured milk.
can be sweet(sweet silky tofu aka "daou fu faa" in cantonese, anyone?) can be savoury
hundreds and thousands way to cook them.
(i've never have paneer before, but I can imagine it is very good)
yeaah it's very similar to tofu! Love both!❤️
Isnt tofu made of soya bean milk
Wo have the same heee in México it is called "requesón" it tastes soooooooooooóo goooood
I love your channel more with each video watched. I love your creativity and how you bring cultures from around the globe together.
The vignette about what to do with the whey was great...I've added the whey leftover from yogurt making into soups and stews...it's a great protein booster and acts as a thickener.
I tend to think of Indian cuisine as this intimidating/advanced level of cooking, but I didn't know paneer was so easy to make! You've definitely inspired me to try it and to look for other simple Indian dishes. And your mother-in-law was great! You should bring her on again!
Hey Beryl, love your videos!! Do a video os egg recipes around the world, there’s so many different ones!
When I first tried paneer, I thought it was tofu HAHAHAH it's so so good!!!
Yeah, it's basically tofu made with cow's milk instead of soy milk ☺
Yea... Indian people who go vegan use tofu as a paneer substitute. It's not the same obviously...good (fresh/homemade) paneer is so much softer and tastes soo milky... but store bought/packaged/frozen paneer can have a similar texture and taste to tofu. (With the caveat that I've only eaten store bought tofu, so maybe fresh tofu is a different beast altogether...idk)
I made a cheese with a friend exactly this way, we thought it was a ricotta! But still so cool to see the overlaps in the cheese making process across different countries
I truly love her energy and endless enthusiasm!
Despite the fact that she LOVES everything she tries, which makes me doubt her taste buds a bit, but genuinely a lovely person to watch.
The paneer song is definetely "la pièce de résistance" from this video, loved it
If you made the dish with both paneer and eggs (or, heck, paneer & eggs & tofu all at once) would that be super weird? Because it sounds delicious
[Also total aside but the lady at 6:24 is wearing the most GORGEOUS earrings I am in love!]
U can add 3-4 table spoons of slightly sour curd instead of viniger or lemon to make panner. It cuts off the sometimes over powering sour flavour of the viniger or lemon. And the panner always is creamier if u don't over do the press to drain
I love your channel =) ! I love that you embrace all different cultures and create a community, with appreciation for all different culture backgrounds, spreading the love and we need more people like you 💙

Everything about this video is a delight. ❤️
We call it "eezevaarra" where I live :) And sometimes this happens even without the lemon juice, when the milk goes "bad" during boiling. Most commonly we put the eezevarra in salty pastry or mix it with red pepper and some other herbs :) But it's not cheese, although it can replace it in some instances. It's like the budget version.
I love this video! I never watch just wanting a basic recipe! I love the community that has formed around Beryl and this channel!
