Refreshed this year, the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas gets a new front fascia and headlights. The previous four- and six-cylinder engines have been replaced by a new turbocharged four-cylinder. Still, the redesigned Atlas is an excellent choice among other three-row SUVs. Its passenger space and cargo capacity match up well against the popular Kia Telluride. We'd also pit it against the Honda Pilot, which received a smart redesign last year. The all-new Mazda CX-90 is also making waves for its luxury aspirations, and we expect it will be a tough rival when it hits dealer showrooms. Buyers looking for a slightly sportier profile might also consider the Atlas Cross Sport two-row SUV (reviewed separately), which sacrifices some passenger space for a leaner look.

You can adjust how much the media volume is lowered when you select reverse, from not at all to fully off. Several VW models have this feature.

Quite the opposite. My 2022 Porsche Panamera Turbo will not allow me to lower or pause the volume when the car is in reverse. Very frustrating and annoying actually.

My Tesla doesn’t do it when I back up, but when I turn on the fan on high for the air or heat, it actually turns whatever you are listening to up…

My car does do this actually I’m lucky enough to have a 2020 Kia forte gt line and when I go into reverse the radio quiets down!! It’s really helpful
My 2023 Mercedes Benz GLC 300 has it. I actually love that feature since it allows me to not be distracted while I’m reversing.
On my 2013 VW Jetta when the windshield wipers are on and the vehicle slows or stops the wiper speed also slows. When you began to move again or pick up speed the wipers return to the set speed.
I noticed VW’s do have some nifty little hidden features.

My 2016 audi turns down the music but you can still hear it. In the settings you can raise or lower the volume level once put into reverse. If you don't like that how ever you can turn it off

Yes my car has that I got a Cadillac XT five when someone calls me my air condition goes down by itself when I’m talking on the phone or I’m calling someone it automatically go down by itself and when I’m backing up it does the same thing if I have music on it automatically go down by itself, so yes I have that feature💯💪🏽🥰
Did you check the settings? The other Volkswagens you can adjust the volume level when placed in reverse.
My Lexus is the same way its for safety and it’s a good standard option

2015 Volkswagen Passat has a feature similar. Instead of the audio muting when in reverse, the volume just goes down.
I drive the 2024 Atlas Cross sport SEL R-Line 4motion and I was able to change my settings to where the volume turns down but not off. Also you can change the interior lights to what color you want it. Last week i was in a pink mode today i changed it to green
It's so that you can hear the parking sensors and also happens when you park in forward motion on cars that have front parking sensors

VW is safety top uniquely and effectively very few people notice or appreciate
Great Feature! All for Safety. Even if I'm on the phone, I stop my conversation when backing up. 👍 Now if they change the dash back to not light up if headlights are not on. Seeing to many ghost cars these days. Some DRLs are too bright which makes the driver somewhat believe their lights are on when they're not. Nissan Rogues are some of the biggest offenders.

My work vehicle (bronco sport) lowers the fan speed for the heat/air, when I answer the phone.
That’s for a different reason though, so the fan isn’t picked up in the mic

At happens on my 2014 CTS and my 2019 Acadia. I didn't know it was a special feature.

Well that’s the Atlas off the list! I find that more distracting personally. Leave my settings alone, I put them where I’m comfortable with them, and having them change suddenly is going to make me focus on why the damn music’s gone quiet again, instead of backing up. It’s like if you were talking to someone and they just stopped talking suddenly, you’re going to start to focus on them and why they went quiet instead of what you were doing before. That is a legit dealbreaker for me, this better not become a thing.
It's a setting that can be turned off with two touches on the infotainment screen.

It's a bug in the 2024 Freightliner Cascadia semi. My 2018 Toyota Tundra does NOT do this, because I didn't order the parking sensors.
The 2021 Cross Sport has that feature. I traded it in for a 2024 SE w/Technology Very expensive but you get a lot more and it looks cool factor is higher 😅

2020 atlas cross sport and 2017 A4 and 2021 Tiguan and they all do this and it can be adjusted in the settings menu to where it only lowers the volume a little bit or not at all. You just want to do it on an as needed basis then just hit the mute button on the parking sensors audio should resume immediately.

MY 2020 VW TIGUAN HAS THE SAME FEATURE.
The bad points of my VW Atlas are
You can’t put the seat heat ON at night in order to have a warm seat or steering once you start the engine at morning inside your house
Secondly
You can’t put the car on Eco mode permanently
But we have to change to eco mode every time we start the car
My 24 Cross Sport does it. And seat & steering wheel are good and toasty in the morning. Try putting your heat in custom mode
My Kia Seltos does the same when I reverse

It would be more distracting to me. I think it is too strict and controling and would decide to not buy along with it's low reliability record.
