Mate! Woodwork, Metalwork, what can’t you do? I think you’d succeed in eating soup with a fork! Well done, that was amazing to watch! We love you guys!
XD Glad you enjoyed it my friend!
*Shows wife how to use the plasma cutter* Next day: Honey, where's the car? ;)
Duka found a challenge, came up with a solution, and solved the challenge. Again Duka :ike your content and how you encourage you lady to help and learn that is AWESOME.
**looks around the room & points over at Todd obnoxiously** THAT'S MY HUSBAND! ::heart eyes::
😂 that’s funny
Super cool man, and there is no such thing as overbuilt, only underbuilt.......great job.
Thank you Doug, glad you like the project :)

Thank you Tony!
you are one clever man ,that is a lovely tool
Thank you! :)
I felt like I was watching Renaissance man Leonardo DaVinci with the way you calculated, designed and built your new rest! Whew! You are so self reliant, and a Renaissance man too. Self reliance is a gift, and you certainly have it. Congratulations on your efforts. I look forward to seeing you use it. Awesome! Peace 💫
Thank you so much Sandra!
That sir is the best steady rest I have seen very impressive work can't wait to see it in action well done Todd.
Thank you so much Jeff, new video will be out soon :)
One million thumbs up for this video, Todd! Amazing craftsmanship, meticulously detailed, looks like it was a fun one...and as always, your video work, editing and music are spot on. I wanna drink a beer in your shop and hang out. If you come to north GA you have to look me up.
:) Thank you so much for the kind words! I will be sure to hit you up if'n I find myself in Georgia!
Damn son, you are one talented man. Cool to see you make it. Figuring the right angles is beyond me. Can’t wait to see next weeks video. So cool to see your wife. Love the show, keep it up .
Even when it's not the regular content it's still amazing work.
Thank you so much Mike!
"Necessity is the mother of invention." Man....that is slicker than greased owl skat....great fabrication....and we love you too. Best to all and stay healthy.
Well done. Not every project can be made of wood ... and it's a necessary tool.
Thank you so much!
Great work! It's always fun to watch someone apply a craft they are skilled in.
Thank you very much Robert!
You both did great. That looks very sturdy.
Thanks so much Michael!
You have some mad skillz bro👍
Thank you so much Mikk!
That is one hell of a steady rest. Awesome job Todd and Shannon.
Thanks so much!
Impressive build brother! Been wanting to make one of these myself! I will definitely be stealing...um...er...BORROWING from your design! Lol!
Keep it up!
Seth
Same here! Although I have no skills with metal so I'll be making mine from plywood.
Dude....that was an awesome build! Well done! Btw, your wife is hilarious....."I've got the power." Too funny!
Glad you enjoyed it!! She really is a trip ;)
Normal content? Yes. Am in the process of building one for my lathe
Yours looks real nice.
Thank you Peter! I hope your build works out great!
Very beautiful work, nice design, it will be very useful,🙂🙂🙂🙂
That is some great ingenuity. I can’t wait to see it in action!
Thanks so much Jacob!
Well done young man!! I was as proud of you as if you were my own son.
Wow! Thank you Carol for the humbling words! :)
That is a thing of beauty! Great job.
Thank you very much Doris!
Can't wait to see it in action.
Fun to watch! My dad was a machinist. Hey even though I love wood turning now , I still have some roots in that. I have all of his micrometers, telescoping gauges, Calipers, etc. etc. (He's in heaven now). I recently used my atlas metal lathe to make a screw-in 5\8" tool post for my little wood lathe. I only wish I had learned to weld. Now to look up your video of you using it. Stay well, Dukas!
Dammit man good with wood and great with metal awesome job 👍
Look forward to every installment, one of our favs
Definitely earned my respect on this build
So, can I go ahead and get one in black with red wheels. Preferably the wheels that light up if possible.
Great job man!
Me too!!! Lol
OMG I didnt even think of light up wheels XD Thanks so much for the support my friend. You may just see a few more of these available in the future ;)
@@dukaheritage9445 Let me know if you need someone to test out a larger prototype on say a Powermatic 3520b 😉
Outstanding metal craftsmanship bud. Your full of surprises
Love your usual content, but watching you fabricate that rest was great and looks very useful.. I think the section that your lovely lady cut looked the most professional 😊.. Thanks for sharing..
;) Thanks so much Gareth!
You are a genius. I have such respect for all your work and skills. Thanks for the video. Stay safe you and yours.
Thank you very much Brenda!
Still the only guy i've seen crazy enough to take steel to a router 😝
AMEN TO THAT!!! Lol!!!
The only thing I hate is that I'm jealous lol 😹 beautiful job!!! I miss having tools and working with my hands. One day...until then, I will enjoy watching your mastery and your wife's joy. This video made me happy....and jealous lol 😂
Thanks as always Maurine! It's been a hectic time for our family these past few months so having your support all this time has been so appreciated! HAPPY NEW YEAR
Amazing build...you made it look so easy! Awesome! Can't wait for your next video to see it in action! 😁👍
Thank you so much Heather😀
Now thats a hell of a steady…steady:):) ..Great work Full view/Like/Subd
Yiannis (Athens Greece)
That should work out great! I would never say overkill because you made it to last! God bless and keep them turning!
Thank you Stephen!
That was a very appropriate t-shirt you wore in the beginning :D
Great as always, greetings from northern norway.
Thank you so much! ;)
Great job Todd miss you you are doing so well congratulations on 7.5k!!! Blowing up haha 🙃❤️
The mad scientist once again prevails, great work man, watching you machine this is almost more impressive than you’re turning skills. Hope it works well in the next project. Cheers!🙌
Thank you my friend!
Great job on the steady rest. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Dean!
Just great! I want a red one with black wheels! Best of luck, be safe, be cool. Beach, NC
Thanks so much Bobby!
@@dukaheritage9445 no really, I want on for my jet 1221. Can I afford one?
Dude, one of your best vids. Thanks for taking us through the whole process. I plan on making mine soon out of wood and this gave me some thoughts on do's and don'ts.
Glad I could help! Best of luck on your build Ross!
Wow that's sweet definately a well needed piece in turning great job
Thanks so much Rich!
Very impressed, really enjoyed watching
Thank you very much Ed!
Very nice. Great show of your versatility of talents.
Thank you very much!
great welding skills- just like a row of dimes!
Thanks so much Jane!
You got mad skills brother.
Thank you Martin! :)
You do like your toys, hard to get a hobart over here, decent welder, . Spooky because I was going to make a steady that would fit my wood lathe and metal lathe only last week, got some great ideas now, excellent build. Wish I had an apprentice as cool as yours. Love to all, stay safe.
Thank you so much Garry, best of luck on your build!
Olá Duka!!! Excelente trabalho !! Pode começar a fazer para vender.... Aí encomendo uma Luneta dessa pra mim.... Valeuuuu
A favorite quote of mine; "There is no such thing as overkill, only open fire and time to reload". Quoted from Schlock Mercenary by Howard Taylor.
Love this!! Thank you :)
Wow man good stuff looks great good job talk to you next week stay safe
Thank you Tony!
I watch another wood turner - Oliver Gomis. He built a steady rest. Here is a link to a video that shows his steady rest. the steady is displayed at 5:15 into the video
I love your channel and your work. thanks.
I watch Oliver also and turned Todd on to his channel because of the massive segmented pieces he does.
Man that thing is sweet
Thank you! :)
Very cool and nice weld joints!
Thank you! Cheers!
Dude you need to start making metal n wood combo's. To much talent to waste.let's get one out there.great work n all the effort n talent to draw it out.your a designer, metal worker n wood turner mix em all together. Fantastic job.
I might have to take you up on this suggestion. ;) Thank you for your support my friend!
Nice piece of kit. Great job.
Thanks 👍
Impressive work brother, love your videos.
Thank you so much, so glad you like the content!
Great job brother!!
Thank you so much Eric!
Thanks for sharing...
Thanks for watching! :)
Very impressive skills. Great job.
Thank you!!
Great job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice job done
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice, I love it...
Thank you!
Nice !!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice. Except one thing...it just doesn't look shiney like your other projects🤔 LoL 😆
Live you guys❣️
Thank you so much Jeanette for your consistent support! I have a weird thing about tool colors and for some reason I always gravitate to the metallic greys ;)
You can have your tools any color you want 😉
Good job bro..👍
Thank you so much Vernon!
Cool stuff.
I don't think it's overkill. I saw this one guy with an enormous, wooden-framed rest that he wheels up to the lathe that sits over and around it and it looks like some kind of massive MDF Optimus Prime is gripping his woodwork.
This is pretty elegant in comparison, to be honest.... And you might as well make it to last.
So no. Not overkill at all. The pencil sharpening, though....
Best way to sharpen a pencil XD Thanks so much Tom for your support!
Very cool man. Only thing is the stitch weld isn't a great penetrating weld but for its purpose you should be fine. Always cool to see you in action. Now just waiting on the car vids lol. I seen dat shirt!
Thank you for your support my friend. Once i get the budget built back up, I will definitely be back to building auto related stuff. Got a xj jeep and eg hatch to finish up
Great job on the build, I found my way over here after asking about your rest on a different video. I didn’t quite realize it was made out of steel but that sucker is beefy!
Now that you’ve had some time to play with it how is setting it up? The Amazon one I tried is too flimsy and difficult to set up to be properly centered. I think the way you have the arms set up is better than the other ones I have seen built on UA-cam. I would imagine having that swing the arm to it makes it harder for the work piece to push the wheel out of place.
Super easy to set up, basically just clamp it to the bed where you want it, apply light pressure on the arms, lock em down and turn away. 😊 hold tight, I’m getting these into production as we are getting ready to launch a new production line of Duka Heritage tooling 👍
Todd, freaking genius!! That is a great steady rest. Where did you get the t-shirt "need a tool make a troll"?
This was bought online at Alec Steele's shop :) he's a youtuber we used to watch a lot when there was more free time around here. (answering because.... I dress him. Hahaha)
Pretty awesome. What kind of bit did you use for pattern routing steel?
Thanks Joker, I was using a 1/2" x 1" carbide burr. I ran the shop vac hose under the table to catch chips as well as direct air over the burr for cooling. ;)
I know "beans" about metal fabrication, so was reading the messages on your tees. Really liked some that I saw - especially the "freedom" one. Where did you get them? p.s. I watch every video you share, and really enjoy your channel!
Thank you Margaret, I do tend to try to deliver subtle messages from time to time to you guys :) Glad you picked up on it. My shirt collection comes from all over. The one you sited specifically came from www.gruntstyle.com
@@dukaheritage9445 Another freedom lover... I may be more than twice your age, but I feel the same way.
Great job. Most of the home made ones I have seen just use plywood. Why buy it when you can make it yourself. And it is not over built. It is built so your grandchildren children will still be able to use it.
:) Thank you Byron!
I love it! What would you charge to make me one?
I'm going to have to think on this one, but I definitely am considering making more.
Over engineered, is that possible? LOL That thing is sweet.
That's a first. How many craftsmen UA-camrs out there do you see who let their wives in on the build/make? Nice to see, well done. But I'd wait a while before you let the baby have a go by herself. 😄
Thanks Lesley! Woodworking has definitely become a large part of the Duka household and we take any moment we can to be together. Between working, parenting, and making ends meet... gotta make the moments count! Aurora got her first tool box for Christmas so it's only a matter of time! ;)
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Overkill?? No such thing. More Power!!
Yeah Todd , a word ...listen i dont want to bust your chops but im gonna need to see Shannon's Ironworker Union Dues card ? She literally just took food out of an honest hard working ironworker's childrens mouths. Not the ones here , the ones in N Carolina or maybe the Iowa ones , whatever ..them guys only make $150K a year so every little bit helps . That 5 minutes of plasma cutting could have been a 4 hr call'in , a safety check , a lock out/ tag out procedure, equipment set up , materials check and only about 8 or 9 more things? They could've had that part cut out and ready for .......lunch break.........you by next week Thursday- Friday at the latest ...okay ? Thanks bud ..keep up the good work , except for today ..shut it down ..
Chicken Tater ..
**looks over at husband** "now that I know the value of my labor, you're making dinner tonight"
XD Thank you so much for your support and for making me laugh!!!!
Ok I need one can you build me one? I don't have welding equipment.
I'm in the process of trying to partner with a company to obtain the equipment to make these available as a store product! :) I'll be sure to keep you posted!
so how much too make me one ?
Ill have to think on this one. :)
@@dukaheritage9445 ok kool just let me know
$75.00 ?
For what? The steel to cut it out of? XD
@@dukaheritage9445 im not sure how much i was just making an offer
