I have the same motor in a Case 1537 Skid Steer. I switched it over to electronic ignition probably 5 years ago and haven't looked back. Zero maintenance and it starts easier with the hotter spark.
Vh4d and all other air cooled engines with shrouds like these MUST have their head cover shroud removed and clean out all of the MOUSE nests at least every spring! Most of these engine rebuilds are caused by overheating from debris caught in the fins around the heads. And make sure your screen over the fan intake is serviceable. Just a “heads up”!
Hey I’m working same model Wisconsin motor installing new carburetor. Original carburetor warped and was pouring fuel. These engines are work horses. Nice video
Hey brother, I was expecting a little bit of more videos in regards to this Case 30+4 trencher as far as the upgrade and any other work that you have done to it. I also have one Case 30+4 but with the backhoe only, no trencher in it, and I am about to start working on it as well with this upgrade and multiple hydraulic hose replacements as well. Anything is more than welcome on this side. Cheers!
Hi Charlie, Sounds like a great project. In the spring there will be a series on reviving one similar to yours. Backhoe / trencher version that was left for dead. No motor no wheels same Wisconsin. If you have a moment, send some pics of your machine!
Thank you for the video. When you say you got the red painted fin to the top by using the timing light, how did you do that? Is it by rotating the distributor? Do you leave the number one plug wire off of the spark plug to keep the motor from starting when you were turning it over a bunch? I have a Wisconsin VH4D with the Pertronix Distributor and Replacement Coil in a M610 Bobcat. Trying to time it.
Hi Brent, Thank you for watching. The timing light pickup goes around the wire so no need to disconnect. Yes rotating the distributor will change the timing.
Any chance you know where to find the distributor drive assembly, Would love to do this upgrade. I also have that same case davis trencher but with the back hoe arm. Lost spark with the old magneto and am itching to buy that distributor but can not find that adapter for the life of me. Thanks .
Really enjoyed your video...nice to see someone else working on the case davis' had alot of cylinder issues but got the whole thing working until the weak spark issue showed up...will keep looking or replace the magneto as a last resort. Thanks Again.
@@JM1608MJ Thanks for the interest. I have another like yours that has the backhoe. I'm going to put that together at some point as I received it in pieces.
Wisconsin w4-1770 has inverted valves. You’re looking at the valve face through the spark plug hole.

Yes, they start way easier and the engine doesn't have to be spinning super fast to start

Hi is the electronic ignition compatible with odd firing engines? I have VG4D.
It has a cap and rotor so it fires wherever the wire goes to.
thanks for sharing. May I buy your original distributor to study it?
I have a v4f Wisconsin engine do you think I can convert this one to electronic ignition !?
Looks like the same set up. I would call the manufacturer to make sure it fits.

You can usually find used ones on ebay for $50. Having the backhoe is a nice setup for the trencher.
Thanks for the reply so soon...looks like the supply has dried up or im using the wrong wording...been searching for days.

@@JM1608MJ Yeah they come and go. Keep your eye out for one and you will find it in a week or two I'm guessing.
