Little Bean's Garden I was happily surprised at how quick she went on the nest, I think her suspicion was at the iphone and tripod she had to walk past to get to the nest. 😂 She is doing a great job 😊 much love Zule
Corey Dewhurst hello Corey, Congratulations on your first batch, how many did you have hatch successfully? I completely understand why you’re already on your second batch, Chickens are the best 💕 🐣
Hi Elissa, You are so lovely that I know you would only raise friendly roosters!! 😀😀😀 This was So fascinating to me. Your knowledge about all this is wonderful. Your Hen is so sweet and the way she settled in on the eggs was so adorable!! I can’t wait for 21 days!! Love, Mary❤️😘❤️ (PS...do you love off-grid?)
Mary's Nest hello Mary, I have been very lucky with raising roosters in the past , they have fabulous personalities so I am very excited for the possibility of little chickens hatching 🐣. She really is a lovely Hen and she went straight on the eggs as soon as she saw them, no editing required and she has stayed on them, we are half way through. I am not off grid, we have town water (and 3 of our own water tanks), mains gas and electricity, we have solar panels but they charge 3 x more for power when you have them and we can’t afford batteries to get off grid. I long to be back on the land, with a wood fire and total independence with spring gravity fed water and a few holding tanks and dams again but for now we make the most of what we have and are grateful for that as well as honing our skills. I do have 200 acres of private land nearby that I use, but unfortunately don’t own and that is all off grid.
Oh Elissa, so excited, can't wait for when she becomes a mum! My two Australorps are learning to live with a family of three magpies but they are very stressed with no eggs some days (generally my days at work) and only one other days. Have not had a day of an egg from each since the maggies moved in :-( Am looking to re-home two more chickens as the other gets lonely when one is laying!
Nola Williams hello Nola, are the Magpies stealing the eggs? I have to battle with the Crows but haven’t had a problem with Magpies stealing eggs. Because I have Shadow on the nest Storm is alone, she has all the ducks of course but I know it’s not the same as other chickens, hopefully I can keep a few chicks to get my numbers up and I can always hatch more out for my friends, they haven’t started the coupe build yet.
@@MoatCottage Maggies not stealing eggs as they lay in the coop, just stressed from the territory battle the maggies have won. Get my re-homed birds tomorrow night so from Saturday morning will have 4 chickens vs 3 maggies! Hope the pecking order takes their mind off the maggies for a while.
Nola Williams there is always something interesting happening when you have animals and wildlife around. You certainly have an interesting dynamic going on in the coupe. I hope your girls enjoy their new friends, when they arrive and they all relax and lay a few eggs for you 😊
My neighbor's hen flew over my firewall and laid eleven eggs. So this started my going into chicken raising. Today (march 31) is the fourth day the hennhas been sitting. I give her legumes, groat oats, and cassava, for the meantime, I was not able to buy chicken feed.
Question do all Black Australorps go broody... Currently I have 4 Australorp pullets and 1 male... I have another Heritage Hen but she does not go broody.. So hoping my Australorps do go broody...
I cant remember exactly, but depending on the broodiness of the bird, I would try to get eggs under her in the first week for the health of the bird and to be sure she will stay the distance.
Hello, Elissa! This is very interesting. Did you create the nest yourself or was that a nest that you moved? It looked like it had a few fine feathers in it. I can't wait to see if they hatch! What date do you have marked for hatching?
Hello HootOwl, the actual nest is in a large dog kennel with an enclosed run area and I put straw in it a while ago, in the meantime there have been a few visitors, as I left the door off. They left the indentation, lovely down feathers and thankfully didn’t make a mess of any kind. The 3rd of December is the big day and she has been doing a great job so far so hopefully the eggs are good. 🐣
She was a little suspicious 😂 can’t wait to see them hatch 🐣 for you. 😊

Moat Cottage - Wow!! Living off the land with a wood fire and well...wouldn’t that be heaven!! 😍😍😍
Mary's Nest it sure would 💕
Happy Thanksgiving to you Mary, May you and your family enjoy the celebrations 🎉

How did your neighbor's hen go with her nest in your yard, did you get any chicks hatch out?
How did you get the broody hen to move?

Hi,,how long was your hen sitting on the plastic egg before you moved her ?
I cant remember exactly, but depending on the broodiness of the bird, I would try to get eggs under her in the first week for the health of the bird and to be sure she will stay the distance.
Our hen has been broody for over a week, is it ok to put fertile eggs in her nest now or is it too late for this cycle?? Thanks for your lovely video!
Yes you can do it now. Most hens will happily sit until their babies hatch.
Happy hatching 🐣
