    I put a few entire heads into a small paper bag and then shake it up. All the seeds fall off and then I can pull out the empty head.

    I can't wait to harvest my seeds. I am on a quest to have dill throughout the winter. I just got back from Denmark and a ton of restaurant dishes were topped with a sprigs of dill. ! It was so fragrant and yummy. It's a nice finish touch to so many dishes.

    Yay! In a unit complex! The container gardening series to continue is my vote too!
    Hey Luke,have you done a video on what mix you use to propagate seeds, general info? We know u gotta use trifecta + in it but what is best for us that can't get trifecta? I have been finding here in AU that commercial mixes, even tho supposed to be for seed raising have big bits in it impeding growth, as well as prone to crusting. Any advice master gardener guru?

    If I made the mistake of taking off my cilantro umball too soon since it's still green... can I still dry in a paper bag and get viable seeds?

  • @CalSextons
    @CalSextons 6 років тому +3

    Got a question. I was watching a few videos from other people . . . and one mentioned something which I wasn’t sure about. She said that if you don’t cut the flowerettes off, once they bloom the whole dill plant will die. Just planted my first dill plant . . . it’s only about a foot and a half . . . and it put up the little umbrella flowerettes. I planted this so I can use when making pickles from my garden . . . this can’t be right can it? If I don’t cut off the little flowers . . . is my dill really going to die?

    • @Sofi_CraftsandMore35
      @Sofi_CraftsandMore35 3 роки тому +2

      If you are early in the season (say May June) and dill is flowering - just pinch off the flowers or your dill will stop producing. If its late August September (right before the first frost) let it flower and collect the seed or let the seeds drop and you will have fresh dill in the spring.

      When the plant has developed vigorous flower heads and you are 100% done harvesting. Just stop watering, wait 3-7 days and then harvest the flower clusters.

    So can I take the dill seed that I've got in my cabinet from the store and grow it next year? Or do I have to purchase even more Dill?

    • @CaliforniaGardening
      @CaliforniaGardening 7 років тому

      Yes you can! Seeds can last for many years if stored in a dark, cool place. Before planting, you can do a seed viability test - put them in a moist paper towel and fold it, put it in a ziploc bag and wait for a few days, if they germinate, you are good to go!

    • @MIgardener
      @MIgardener  7 років тому +3

      You can certainly try, however some seed has been radiated to kill bugs. It may sprout, but most won't if it has been radiated.

      ***** Ah Ok, Thank you so very much for replying and letting us both know this information Luke! I really appreciate your efforts, this channel and the MIgardener store. (I really love that you ensure gardeners can buy seed at a decent price. It made it so I could buy a fairly large choice.) I do wonder if you've managed to get much in the way of Kelsae onion seeds for sale in the store yet?
