I have a Cricut Explore Air 2 and i cut fabric on it only once. but this is a great idea to use it to cut fabric. i know i will have to use heat and bond to put on my fabric before cutting (i will also have to buy a new mat for fabric)
i just really use Cricut for sometimes designing my bags with glitter vinyl embellishments. But i would like to try it in cutting actual pieces for putting together a bag.
I think in this particular instance, you were cutting a square so it was extremely easy to cut by hand. If you were cutting a pattern of a purse with different pockets and linings and an oddly shaped exterior cutting with the cricut would definitely be so much faster than cutting intricate pattern pieces by hand . I have the cricut maker 3. I just subscribed to your channel. Thank you for the video.
I find it all depends on the pattern pieces straight forward pieces like these are quicker by hand but pieces like say pursepal are quicker by cricut as you have the slots and zipper cutout wich can be fiddly
I have a Cricut to use with my bag making but am still learning how to use it. I want to use it for more difficult cuts of pattern pieces and I have a permanent set up spot for the machine. Thanks for your video!
I have just started cutting vinyl with my Cricut Maker and am amazed at how easy it is to use. Finally got that AhHa moment with design space and it all clicked. I really enjoyed watching this video. I just found you today.
I think that another advantage of using a cutting machine is that you can multi-task. You can get your hardware or cut your zipper while the machine is going. It will still save you time in the end.
I’m going to need a little bit more details on cutting with the maker… like what blade are you using? What fabric are you using? When you were using vinyl what setting and laid are you using? Is the fabric placed side down or wrong sign up? You are putting in your design, did you design? Was it already an SVG? Or PNG? I have always wanted to do my bag on my maker
I’ve finally started using my Cricut Maker (which I bought used 3 or 4 years ago 😮). The second thing I cut was the Pocket Pal in garment weight leather! It was amazingly quick compared to trying to hand cut all the card slots. Which I would have never even tried.
I have a Cricut Maker. I use it for smaller pieces and for raw edge projects, mostly, for which precision is pretty much required. Thanks for the video!
I have a SNC and have started cutting out bags with it that have svg files. It’s way more accurate than cutting for me. I’m going to start scanning the pieces to make svg’s. I’m having fun learning more about my machine and making bags.
Your pattern seems to be just rectangles which, of course, would be faster by hand. However, I use my Cricut most of the time when I cut purse patterns which have curves or even boxed corners. It is much more accurate than by hand. I wish you had indicated which blade you used. Most of the time I use the rotary blade. Perfect cuts every time. Thank you for this video.
Thankyou for your video love it and I feel it was a very basic pattern ,if you where to do something more complicated like a purse pal for example there’s no way we can cut as quickly and accurately as the cutting machine lol I’m subscribed and looking forward to more of your content ❤
Very true! I can cut out a purse pal in less than 10 minutes on my Cricut. It would take me at least three times longer by hand. Maybe I’ll do something like that next and show how I set it up in design space for cutting ❤️
When using a different pattern with curves and notches, I think the circuit might come out ahead. Having to cut out a pattern to trace or pin then cut with scissors or even some lines with a rotary cutter, I think the cricut will be faster. If you were making multiple bags and had a couple/few mats you’d be cruising right along. Fun to see how close in time this style pattern was. I just got a maker and am excited to use it soon. Some projects with deadlines have to come first.
I am considering buying a Cricut Maker or Brother Scan n Cut. I am a bag maker. I sew THICK materials like marine vinyl. Would like it to cut out patterns
I just got air2 for my birthday a couple months ago. I have arthritis. My daughter thought this would be cool for me. I purchased a Lynn’s handmade pattern a couple months before that I’ve been cutting by hand how do you upload a pattern into Design Space
Quick question. How do you get the shapes, including any markings, into the software? I would use my machine for cutting everything but very few designers include svg’s. I’ve found that the process of creating the svg’s on my own is extremely tedious and time consuming. And some I completely gave up trying to convert. It’s usually the ones with unusual shapes, which are the ones I need the machine for the most.
Most of the patterns I cut are ready made svgs that I have purchased, or designed myself. I find keeping the cutting charts (if sizes are included) handy makes this process faster. Alternatively, you could print the difficult to draft piece out, assemble and then measure the lines to create your own template pieces. Luckily, more and more designers are including svgs for pieces that will fit on a Cricut mat, but understand the frustration when they aren’t included.
I don’t think layering would work as it would be difficult to keep the layers from shifting.but you could put a fabric piece 12” by 24” on a large mat and cut quite a few squares very quickly and accurately!
Have you tried to cut vinyl, canvas or leather? I have been thinking of trying to cut sewing pcs with it but wish the cricut was wider than 11.5 inches
I almost exclusively cut vinyl canvas and cotton. I use a strong grip mat and a rotary blade using moleskin setting for vinyls and canvas (waxed canvas does not stick to the mat so I do that by hand) I have cut leather with good success but you need to make sure to tape it down well and use a knife blade.
I am a new Cricut owner and I am chomping at the bit to cut out bags and embroidery appliqués. what I can't figure out is how and what I need to get to the Cricut. I'm pretty sure it involves an SVG file but I don't know how to start. if you want to change the size of a appliqué can you do it? I'm lost! I have an old Cricut that uses cartridges and I've had a lot of fun with it, but I wanted this new one primarily to cut fabric but I don't know how to start. Thank You!
I do have a video where I add SVG files into design space and get them ready to cut here ua-cam.com/video/zeGbdUnBdsI/v-deo.htmlsi=jppJaPqtPZZCZ834 but I can do a more in depth one soon!
If you use design space for Cricut you can use my SVG files here design.cricut.com/landing/project-detail/65a336e0fd260e64607f9230. I usually draw my pattern out for simple items like this using shapes and the text features for labelling. I will do a more in depth video showing my design process soon! Thanks so much for watching.
I use my Cricut Maker a lot for cutting out bag patterns. I love the accuracy of perfectly cut pieces. I’ve cut cotton, vinyl, cork and canvas but not waxed canvas, I’m afraid it will gunk up the blade. The only thing I’ve tried that didn’t cut great was some luxe nylon. Edited to say, love your channel, anything with bag making and the Cricut, I’m here for it!
I have a cricut 2 would like to know how to use it for my bags and wallets. I am not a pro at using my cricut. I have patterns but don’t know how to get them into my space
I usually have two mats going so I can just pop the second one in as soon as the first one is done. I also use a rolling pin for making sure the fabric is adhered to the mat. Doesn’t everyone have a rolling pin in their sewing room🤪
The hand cut could have been done considerably faster if you had folded the fabric and cut both pieces at the same time for both the exterior and the lining.
It takes me less than a minute to pull up an already saved file in design space . If you are speaking of first time set up for the machine , I had mine out of the box and ready to go in about 10 to 15 minutes.
I dont think it was fair to make the cricut have a speed test against manual cutting. I would've been impressed if you'd shown how the cricut won hands down regarding, accuracy and cutting multiple small pieces and how you can get on with sewing whilst the cricut was cutting.
Fair point. I had no idea who would be faster, but I do know if I was cutting more intricate pieces the Cricut would have beat me hands down on both speed and accuracy.

Agree!
Hi,
Have you done a video on how to convert the pdf pattern into cricut I have tried so much without success?????
I have a Cricut to use with my bag making but am still learning how to use it. I want to use it for more difficult cuts of pattern pieces and I have a permanent set up spot for the machine. Thanks for your video!
It’s a great tool to have in our sewing toolbox!
I just found your channel and i love to sew . I never thought about cutting fabric on my Cricut Maker I'm going to try thank you for the inspiration
I have just started cutting vinyl with my Cricut Maker and am amazed at how easy it is to use. Finally got that AhHa moment with design space and it all clicked. I really enjoyed watching this video. I just found you today.

Yes a tutorial on the bag would be great. Thanks

I love the Cricut for the pocket pal, and card slots in general!

Thanks so much for watching!
Love this video, but I am wondering how to set the pieces up in Design Space. I am a newbie with the Cricut.
I have a Scan N Cut but I have not used it yet for bag making. Hoping you will help me with that! So glad I found your channel! Thanks
Thanks so much for watching! I don’t have a scan n cut, however hopefully some of my tutorials will help. I hope to do much more soon!

I did use the rotary blade as I do for all fabrics unless it’s leather where I would use the knife blade. Thanks for reminding me!

Oh my i have a cricut maker but don't know how to cut purses yet need to find a UA-cam video that shows me how
Have you cut leather? Thank you for the video
I have cut leather with great success using the knife blade. Just make sure to really tape it down well to the mat.
I am considering buying a Cricut Maker or Brother Scan n Cut. I am a bag maker. I sew THICK materials like marine vinyl. Would like it to cut out patterns
I don’t know tons about the scan n cut but the maker can cut just about anything I throw at it!
I gotta get one and try this one day.
They are great machines!
11:49 Friday 8 november 🍁I have a Cameo 4 and I do not now to cut with it dont find any tutorials at all 😢
I don’t own a cameo, but I Iwonder if the process would be similar to Cricut except the program used to load files.
Was the bag pattern in cricut design space?
Very informative. Do you find you have a lot of waste fabric using the CRICUT? Thanks
Truly I don’t really get any more waste than when cutting by hand, I also find Cricut scraps more “useable” as the cuts are usually nice and straight.
I’m curious what blade you used? I’ve been trying to find a Cricut rotary blade but wondering if it’s really necessary?
Honestly I think the rotary blade is essential if you plan to cut fabrics, cork and vinyl. I do use the rotary blade almost exclusively.
I have a circuit maker for 2 years I just set maker up I’m a newbie’s
Glad to have you here! Once you get used to using it you will love it!

I don’t think layering would work as it would be difficult to keep the layers from shifting.but you could put a fabric piece 12” by 24” on a large mat and cut quite a few squares very quickly and accurately!

Did you interface your fabric first?
In most cases I do interface before cutting on my Cricut. Seems to work great for me
I love this concept. My question is, where do you get the pattern files?
If you use design space for Cricut you can use my SVG files here design.cricut.com/landing/project-detail/65a336e0fd260e64607f9230. @patroling9803 Imjust released a video today on the basics of loading your SVG to design space! Have a peek at my channel ☺️
I usually have two mats going so I can just pop the second one in as soon as the first one is done. I also use a rolling pin for making sure the fabric is adhered to the mat. Doesn’t everyone have a rolling pin in their sewing room🤪
what is the fabric pen doing?
The fabric pen is marking corners and centre marks to make it easy to line up pieces😊
I just found you this morning. So cutting the bag are doing the svg files? Confused
Yes I used SVG files to cut the bag. Truly the are just rectangles with markings to cut boxed corners 😊
The hand cut could have been done considerably faster if you had folded the fabric and cut both pieces at the same time for both the exterior and the lining.
True it could however I never get accurate cuts when I stack fabric or cut on the fold. The fabric tends to shift.
Howl long does it take to program the machine
It takes me less than a minute to pull up an already saved file in design space . If you are speaking of first time set up for the machine , I had mine out of the box and ready to go in about 10 to 15 minutes.
Do you find yourself watching the Cricut doing the work, the same way one watches the Roomba clean your floor...
I sure do! It amazes me every time!
You may be faster but I am not! 😂😂😂
I dont think it was fair to make the cricut have a speed test against manual cutting. I would've been impressed if you'd shown how the cricut won hands down regarding, accuracy and cutting multiple small pieces and how you can get on with sewing whilst the cricut was cutting.

Card slots meet Cricut....
Great idea! I really hate cutting card slots by hand.
If you were doing multiple bags, I think it would be faster.
Very true!
You cut fast
Definitely depends on what I’m cutting. Squares and rectangles I’m fast’ish’ but curvy anything, I’m pretty slow 😉
