WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, the House Committee on Homeland Security released its latest “Startling Stats” factsheet outlining U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) September and Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 border encounter data. In the final month of FY2023, CBP recorded 269,735 encounters at the Southwest border, marking another unprecedented milestone under Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and President Joe Biden’s open-borders policies. This monthly number also represents an 86% increase from June 2023, when the Biden administration celebrated a short-lived drop in illegal crossings following the end of Title 42.
The annual numbers proved just as catastrophic. In FY23, CBP recorded more than 2.4 million encounters at the Southwest border and more than 3.2 million encounters nationwide. Just this fiscal year, 169 individuals on the terrorist watchlist were apprehended attempting to enter the country illegally, and at least 1.7 million known gotaways have evaded apprehension since FY2021. Americans did not need more proof that Biden and Mayorkas’ post-Title 42 strategy had failed, but unfortunately, that’s exactly what we have gotten.
As this disaster spirals further out of control, the Biden administration does not know how many dangerous illegal aliens are entering the country undetected, especially as Border Patrol agents are being pulled off the front lines to help process and release the historic number of illegal aliens flooding the border. While monthly apprehensions and encounters continue to increase, Mayorkas simply continues to double down on his mass-parole programs, incentivizing and facilitating the entry of otherwise inadmissible aliens into the United States at a scale never before seen.

On February 28, in another brazen move to prioritize illegal aliens over hardworking Americans, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced it will begin awarding $350 million of taxpayer money to “help local communities around the country better manage the costs of noncitizen arrivals in their communities.” The award is for illegal aliens “provisionally released from DHS custody pending the outcome of their immigration court proceedings.” It’s the first allocation from a new $800 million slush fund for illegal aliens created by the $1.7 trillion Fiscal Year 2023 omnibus spending bill, which President Biden signed December 29 while vacationing at taxpayer expense in the Virgin Islands. Per guidance cited in the department’s press release, the latest grant may fund month-long hotel stays and plane tickets up to $700 per illegal alien, among other things. This comes as everyday Americans suffer from record inflation, crime, and deadly fentanyl poisoning their communities as a result of these financial incentives for mass illegal migration.
The $350 million grant supports the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP), which is overseen by a National Board chaired by a representative of DHS’ Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The other six board members represent woke open-borders charities and religious organizations, including Catholic Charities USA, which has drawn Congressional scrutiny for allegedly “violating federal law and regulation, placing migrants and American communities at risk, and subjecting local communities to unreasonable burdens” by “facilitating the movement of illegal immigrants across our border.”
Localities and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) can apply for reimbursement - or, in some cases, advance funding - for a variety of activities to “support” illegal aliens. In addition to the aforementioned hotel stays and plane tickets, taxpayer money may go towards “legal aid” to help aliens get around our immigration laws, “translation services” so aliens don’t have to even bother learning the language of the country they’ve illegally invaded, “mental health” (a vague term that could encompass a wide range of expenses), up to $5,000 of reimbursement for big-ticket purchases like cars or A/C units, and/or payroll expenses for staff - including overtime.

I actually saw Hilary walking around campus on reunion weekend a few years back. Other alums (I presume) were literally bowing to her and she was eating it up. The odd thing was I didn't see any Secret Service around (although she did have a small entourage). Wellesley College won't even allow the townspeople on campus any more. They certainly wouldn't take illegals.

Both the empathy and the frustration make sense to me. I'm glad that migrants are being cared for respectfully but it's not right to take away from communities that already have an uphill battle to obtain resources. It's also infuriating that they did it without warning or arranging alternatives. Seems like they're trying to avoid inconveniencing more affluent constituents and are not only creating more hardship for those who are less so but stirring up intracommunity resentment in the process. I'm sure that will end well, smh...
I have dealt with local govt' who act this way in NYC. They always ask the community for the small stuff and election time. When it's stuff like this? They just ram rod. Then when their voting base demands answers. They point every which way but their direction

These programs are absolutely necessary for the residents. The activities keep kids engaged and active. This place keeps kids out of trouble. Roxbury must have the rec center back NOW!
The people there know how much people get paid for plates ??? Many are going to be surprised . We found out in Austin that the city council was paying $ 25 to 30 dollars for a plate. And for citizens, what ? A miserable meal in wells 😡

Now that there's a new shelter, more future Massachusetts are on the way. In NYC the caterer was charging about $17 per meal per day times 3 for everyone they served. Hope this lady is getting a nice bump $ for her meals.
