Maybe it's possible that the OG James Bond (variously portrayed by Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and Pierce Brosnan) was forced into retirement after the events of "Die Another Day" and Daniel Craig's James Bond was playing a completely different James Bond. And now that Craig's Bond's story has ended with "No Time To Die", Timothy Dalton could return to reprise the role as OG James Bond---with him returning to assist MI6 against the former henchmen of the now-leaderless SPECTRE organization who have reorganized themselves as The Union (a criminal organization introduced in Raymond Benson's James Bond novels as a more "blue-collar version of SPECTRE"). And yes, the SPECTRE organization that Craig's Bond dealt with would be the same SPECTRE that OG Bond dealt with; they just went underground after the death of their leader Ernst Stavro Blofeld (who would actually be the grandfather of the Ernst Blofeld also known as Franz Oberhauser). [Yes, I thought A LOT about this possible future story idea after seeing that "James Bond Will Return" at the end of the end credits of "No Time To Die".]

My favourite Bond, the finest, and closest to the literary character, actor of the series... Although Craig comes close... His Licence to Kill performance is the coldest and most brutal of all... Its a crime that he only got two cracks
Having acquired all the James Bond DVDs when they came out as part of that 3-box boxed set, I had a chance to see how well all the actors did. I'm not saying Roger Moore's movies were bad. But, when he dresses up like a clown in Octopussy and went into space in Moonraker to compete with STAR WARS, I realized I was having a hard time taking him seriously as James Bond. Timothy Dalton was the first Bond I thought I could take seriously. (Not to say that Sean Connery was bad. I'm just not interested in his movies.) The chase down a snowy mountain in a cello case - The classic oneliner by Bond as they cross a border - Nothing to declare - except a cello!!! (Something to do with a cello) - That was my favourite part. Also the pig in the pipe- that was good as well. I did not like the 2nd movie - License to kill. I think possibly because Bond went back to having more than 1 girl. In Living daylights there was only 1 girl. I like monogamy. And I think that is also why I dont like Roger, Sean and Daniel. Too many girls. I prefer monogamy!! Pierce Brosnan mostly only had one girl per movie. That is just my personal feeling, but those were my preferences.

I am glad the Dalton era gets their love these days, especially "Licence To Kill", which to me is not only the most underrated, but also one of the best Bond films.
Watched it last night. Its flawed but fun. Pretty dark . Love the undercover bond stuff. The American bond girl is decent , and Robert davi is a great bad guy. One of my faves
Agree wholeheartedly. Dalton brings to bear a degree of aggressive, dark realism that most other actors have struggled to match. Maybe Craig is the closest. I loved the Living Daylights. My mum let me watch it in VHS when I was 13. In hindsight, I love that scene where he allows the one note cello player to retrieve her instrument from her hotel. He slams the coupe's door and barks: "You couldn't have chosen the violin?". Lol, I love how real the reaction is. It reminds me of how I sometimes retort to certain demands my gf makes lol.
Dalton doesn’t get enough love. Licence to Kill is hands down my favorite Bond film. Wish he would’ve gotten a couple more movies. His Bond was way ahead of its time. The perfect balance of gritty realism with campiness.
Although Moore was my childhood Bond. Dalton is closest to the books and as an adult is my favourite. Dalton was serious but has so much more charisma than say Craig. who although a good actor is just miserable as Bond. Just wish they didn't have the legal issues and we could have had a few more entries.
I loved Timothy as Bond. In the late nineties I saw Timothy crossing the Trader Joe's parking lot and I shouted out "best Bond ever!" and without making eye contact he smiled a tiny smile. L.A. is magic.
Timothy Dalton my favourite Bond. He actually paved the way for Daniel Craig playing the first darker Bond. He had 2 very solid entries with The Living Daylights & Licence to Kill. Dalton is the forgotten underrated Bond who never really got the respect he deserved. While Craig is currently getting praise for a more human Bond, Dalton actually did it first.😁🥰😄☺️😃👍🍕
*laughs.* nice David Mamet reference. I was looking a the name and thinking, that seems familiar, where do I know that phrase from? Also, I agree the the sentiment you've expressed. I know it's the popular thing to pretend that you liked x thing/person before everyone else realized they were good, but I actually did like the tonal changes that Dalton's Bond brought to the series. In a sense Dalton carried the suave aspect of Connery, without the glibness or sense that many of his outcomes were due to random luck as much as elite skill. Dalton's grit and determination felt more an 'accurate' depiction of what an elite spy's life might be like, sans the tedium of reality.
My favourite Bond, especially LTK, I always liked the grittiness of the movie but the general publics short sightedness probably effected its box office draw. Though releasing it at time of other sequels was probably a bad idea. I always liked Timothy Dalton as he did actually study the source material and is the closest to the character in the book's.
Dalton did Dark Bond first and had two great films. It's a shame we didn't get a third Dalton Bond film. I consider The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill to be in the top ten list of Bond films. Dalton was ahead of his time.
@@mikeadams7904 The only time Craig ever actually portrayed James Bond was for the first hour of Spectre, then he completely ruined it by falling in love and resigning for a 2nd time smh
A Bond that was ahead of his time. A gritty portrayal that was close to the novels. These films need more love for setting the template for modern Bonds and returning the series back to basics after the parody like nature of the Moore films.
Dalton has always been my favorite and his two entries are amongst the best of the series. It's a shame that the precarious financial situation of MGM/UA in the early 90s led to protracted lawsuits that took years to resolve because I completely agree that if Dalton had made a 3rd Bond he would get way more credit, credit which he highly deserves anyway.
I always go to the scene in The Living Daylights where, cornered in General Pushkin's room, Bond rips the towel off of the wife and uses her as a distraction for the incoming guards as THE MOMENT Timothy Dalton proved he could play the role.
Dalton was far better than Brosnan. I can only imagine how good Goldeneye would have been if Dalton had played Bond rather than Brosnan. The overall tone of Goldeneye fit Dalton well.
I love GoldenEye in fact that is my personal fav Bond film, but, revisiting the Dalton films now, my goodness, I wonder what GoldenEye would be with Dalton.
I think Brosnan and Sean Bean worked well together as competitive friends turned adversaries. Dalton's Bond seemed to have alot more over the top ego than Brosnan.
Dalton, still my favourite Bond. I love Craig but Dalton, Dalton just has the look and his voice... perfect. When i think of James Bond i think of Dalton. And again his voice, just a great tone. Something i don't tend to hear people comment about regarding Dalton. Craig is my very close second but Dalton, his look and voice for me is spot on.
"What did he promise you? His heart? Give her his heart." I loved Dalton as Bond and I loved the more serious tone of the movies, especially LTK - one of the best Bond movies ever IMO. It also had Talisa Soto in it, so... ;)
We love the Dalton Bond as well. We watched both of these a few weeks ago when we binge-watched all 24. BTW Robert Davi is a really good musician too; bad guy and a bad-ass musician too! Desmond Llewelyn said that Dalton was his most fave Bond. Yes loved Dalton in Penny Dreadful; wish they would do another series (although The Alienist is pretty good tho Dalton is not in it). It was really great to see Lewlyn get so much time!
Maryam d'Abo was a beautiful addition to this movie. More romantic and she wasn't as dumbed down as Bond girls had in the pass. Plus she could play the cello - you can't get more romantic than that. She and Dalton made a good pairing.
My favorite Bond actor. Most accurate portrayal of Fleming's vision and both his movies are definite top ten material. In hindsight it would have been perfect if he took over starting with For Your Eyes Only. The overall mood and tone of that movie fit him like a glove and I've read that he was offered the part at that time but turned it down. He should have been the Bond of the 80's. By then Moore was too old.
I would take the Dalton movies over the Craig dumpsterfire any time. TLD is one of my favourite Bond movies of all time, probably second only to Goldeneye. Probably the only flaw this movie has is that the villains are quite weak (which is especially sad as the villains in A View to a kill were some of the strongest of the franchise) and that the plot is a bit too complicated (not as much as Octopussy which is a mess plot-wise). LtK on the other hand - while still a very good movie - was a bit too dark for me to be one of my favourites. I would have loved to see a third movie with Dalton.
Nah I love Tim Dalton too. But his movies aren't topping Casino Royale or Skyfall. The Living Daylights is easily top 5 Bind films of all time though. And Licence To Kill top 10.
Whenever someone raves about how Daniel Craig is a gritty, edgy down to earth James Bond, I remind him that Timothy Dalton did it first, and better.
Dalton not only did the brutal action scenes he could lighten up and turn on the charm at times. His two films are excellent and I wish there had been a third.

Timothy Dalton always reminded me of Laurence Olivier. Mr. Dalton is a wonderful actor.
Jeroen Krabbë doesn't get let go! John Rhys Davies' character mentions he be put in the "diplomatic bag". Surely a euphemism for a very bad end.

@@mikeadams7904 Agreed, I dare say it's my personal favorite (Next to Goldeneye and Live and Let Die, love the Moore era as well)
@@mikeadams7904 Could have easily been a rated-R film with the violent scenes being unedited and uncut.
I Think so too 🙌
His films need WAY more love. He was ahead of his time.
Agreed!
I agree
Craig is 003 compared to tim
My favourite Bond, especially LTK, I always liked the grittiness of the movie but the general publics short sightedness probably effected its box office draw. Though releasing it at time of other sequels was probably a bad idea.
I always liked Timothy Dalton as he did actually study the source material and is the closest to the character in the book's.
Timothy's Bond is so much better than the overrated Craig.
Spot on
Dalton did Dark Bond first and had two great films. It's a shame we didn't get a third Dalton Bond film. I consider The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill to be in the top ten list of Bond films. Dalton was ahead of his time.
Yup. I just don't feel like I'm watching James bond when I watch Craig.
Love casino royale though.
Just wish Dalton or brosnan could have been in it
@@mikeadams7904 The only time Craig ever actually portrayed James Bond was for the first hour of Spectre, then he completely ruined it by falling in love and resigning for a 2nd time smh
I just felt the same...i wanted that fully @@mikeadams7904
A Bond that was ahead of his time. A gritty portrayal that was close to the novels. These films need more love for setting the template for modern Bonds and returning the series back to basics after the parody like nature of the Moore films.
I couldn't agree more!
LTK is by far the best bond film ever. Dalton plays him perfectly!
I always go to the scene in The Living Daylights where, cornered in General Pushkin's room, Bond rips the towel off of the wife and uses her as a distraction for the incoming guards as THE MOMENT Timothy Dalton proved he could play the role.
Living daylights is my favorite dalton bond film.
@Trey Stephens I really enjoyed that part personally.
I think he proved he could play the role from the first frame but yes a great scene.
Dalton was far better than Brosnan. I can only imagine how good Goldeneye would have been if Dalton had played Bond rather than Brosnan. The overall tone of Goldeneye fit Dalton well.
Man oh man...if only we got that last Dalton movie.
I wouldn't change a thing about Goldeneye. Perfect Bond movie.
But Dalton definitely should have got another go at 007
I love GoldenEye in fact that is my personal fav Bond film, but, revisiting the Dalton films now, my goodness, I wonder what GoldenEye would be with Dalton.
Roger that.
I think Brosnan and Sean Bean worked well together as competitive friends turned adversaries. Dalton's Bond seemed to have alot more over the top ego than Brosnan.
My absolute favourite as Bond 🤩 Dalton deserves more love. I was happy to see they used Dalton's Aston Martin in No Time To Die.
Couldn't agree more and yes, the V8 in No Time To Die 👌🏻 The V8 is still my favourite of the Bond cars, my dream car. Just a beautiful car.
Excellent point about Dalton's voice. Very authoritive and commanding, much like Connery's. Always felt Brosnan's voice was too soft-spoken and wispy.
The most underrated bond hands down
Dalton was the BEST Bond!
Dalton’s stock will continue to rise as the series continues to sell out and move further and further from Ian Fleming…
Totally agree 👍🏼
"What did he promise you? His heart? Give her his heart."
I loved Dalton as Bond and I loved the more serious tone of the movies, especially LTK - one of the best Bond movies ever IMO.
It also had Talisa Soto in it, so... ;)
Her acting was very very bad in it!
Dalton is easily my favorite Bond.
I grew up with these two movies, watching 'em over and over again.
It pleases me greatly to see Dalton getting a lot of love nowadays. I always thought he was a superb Bond but never felt like anybody else did...
Maryam d'Abo was a beautiful addition to this movie. More romantic and she wasn't as dumbed down as Bond girls had in the pass. Plus she could play the cello - you can't get more romantic than that. She and Dalton made a good pairing.
Dalton was the exact description of what Fleming imagined James Bond to look like in his novels
I didn't like his version as Bond back in the days, but today Timothy is my favourite Bond and his two movies are on my top 5 Bond movies.
