What Happened to TIMOTHY DALTON?

- For over a decade, Roger Moore had the task of living up to everything that Sean Connery had put in place as 007. And while some will defend Moore forever, we can’t forget the clown costumes and slide whistles and gondola chases and so, so much more that pushed James Bond into an uncharted level of ridiculousness. Perhaps all of this could have been prevented had Timothy Dalton not been so green, turning down ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE because he was in his mid-20s. That’s all hypothetical, of course, but Timothy Dalton would go on to reinvent James Bond in a way that may not have sat with contemporary audiences but marked a true challenge for what it meant to carry the torch. Dalton played 007 just twice; and with that, we’d challenge you to name just as many worthwhile post-Bond movies from the under-appreciated actor.Let’s find out: WTF Happened to…TIMOTHY DALTON?

In my opinion, Timothy Dalton was the best James Bond.
Yup, i think when you watch enough bond, it clicks
Did you see him pop a wheelie in a semi in License to Kill? Bruh…
Licence to kill is one of my favourite Bond movies ! It's kind of dark and gritty... Amazing actor !
License to Kill rocks! I loved James Bond and they combined it with a plot out of Miami Vice. Davi and Del Toro were a great Villain/Henchman duo and Soto/Lowell are underrated Bond girls. I can’t believe how it underperformed at box office but it was the summer of Batman!
Here here
I always loved The Rocketeer, probably one of the most underrated fun action adventure movies of the 90s and he played a great bad guy
The Rocketeer is good, I seen it thrice but I only seen it as an adult.

Yup! My favorite of his two 007 movies.
Conleth hill was in dodsworth 1935 with Walter Huston David Niven Jamie dornan
Timothy Dalton can be a good hero, but he plays great villains.
Why Dalton hasn't been signed up to narrate the Ian Fleming James Bond books and the various continuation novels in their Audio form is beyond me!!
I absolutely fell in love with Timothy when his first Bond movie came out, was so sad when he didn't return. One of the best
Mr. Dalton is an excellent actor, and the best Bond, James Bond.
His Heathcliff - Wuthering Heights, no one can touch!!!
Can you do one on Jeff Bridges, such a great career that is never spoken of.

I quite liked his Bond. The Bond films really had been getting more silly and his couple felt more grounded than some of the previous stuff we had had. In a way I think his more serious take helped pave the way for the Casino Royale reboot later.
You forgot the movie he did with Brooke Shields called "Brenda Starr, Reporter" (1986)-he went straight to filming "The Living Daylights" (1987). The Starr movie didn't come out until 1992 due to a lot of issues with the producers, studios, film rights, etc. Sad because it would've benefited coming out when Batman, Dick Tracy, and the other comic book character movies were relevant.
Roger Moore was an excellent Bond and all his movies are endlessly rewatchable ...They tried something different with TD more violence and more gritty ..and he did deserve a third film..
I've been enjoying and analyzing the James Bond saga for over 40 years, in fact, I graduated with a thesis on From Russia with Love, and I'm fascinated by Timothy Dalton's characterization as 007, with that Hamlet-like dilemma regarding his license to kill. By the way, I also enjoy his other acting work, from Prince Barin in Flash Gordon to Sir Malcolm Murray in Penny Dreadful, an unjustly underrated cult series.
Such a great actor, l remember freaking out when he showed up in Dr Who and Hot Fuzz!
Timothy Dalton is possibly the most talented actor to play James Bond.
All I know him is for James Bond and bad guy in rocketter 😅
Licence To Kill is still my favorite Bond movie.
Been ages since I watched any JoBlo vids, and it's so refreshing and awesome as always, not like the boring drone of a vid I watched earlier from another channel about movies. Regarding this video itself, you Tarantinoed the crap out of it? How many jumps from pre-Bond to post-Bond were there? Let's count... let's not. Hmm which one am I going to watch next and write a stupid comment on?
License to Kill is one of the best Bond flicks.
He's my favorite bond with Brosnan right behind.
Flash

Hi Taylor ❤
Easily my favourite Bond actor is the Daltonator!
I’ll never not see him as the President in the Beautician and the Beast
Roger Moore is My Bond
I think he would have been well suited to "for your eyes only"
Craigs depiction of Bond is very similar to Daltons.
Dalton dived into Ian Fleming’s books to recreate a literary version of Bond, which is how Craig’s bond was written, but since Dalton looks more like Bond. I think Daltons bond is the best.
Timothy Dalton was the most novel Accurate James Bond
He should've gotten four Bond-Flicks, I think. It would have been best if he already had been Bond in _View to a Kill,_ a younger Actor would have fit the basic, then-modern story about Microchips well, not to mention the younger Villains.
And he should have gotten a fourth movie in 1991/92.
I used to really enjoy WTF series. The videos used to be longer and more detailed. Now it's like they're skipping out on most of the good parts to make it all shorter. It's a shame
He moved on after the disastrous
Timothy Dalton IS James Bond.
clown costume slyde whistle gondolo chases are awesome moorge is ment to mutch more light heartet thats was the idea just dont take it serisly and it would be fine
dalton is clearly an underdog bond, but the living daylights is a horrible good bond story
I love some Moore films, but in ways he became the Adam West Batman of the Bond films. It'd be cool to see a modern take on Jaws.
1: sean connery (obviously)
2: pierce brosnan
3: timothy dalton
4: roger moore

Right Bond wrong time. 20 years ahead of the game. Still n always my favourite 007. Love him in Hot Fuzz too hilarious 😂
Angel!
@@SirTyJensen Angel or Angle
I watched it recently and I Telya he steals the show and every scene he’s in and he is flipping hilarious. I mean the slasher of prices running the local Supermarché Simmons Skinner, good grief.
Timothy Dalton was the very first actor to portray Bond as a serious, dark and gritty reinventing James Bond long before Daniel Craig. He may have only done 2 Bond Movies but at least he has had the honour of having the 2 best entries in the Series. Definitely my favourite Bond, as he stayed true to the original Fleming Books.
Imagine if they casted him instead of Roger Moore.
My favorite actor to portray Bond.
No contest
Well said, both of you!!!!😊
He's debonair, he brings the gravitas. He was my first and favorite bond as well. I wish we got more from him as a bond. He's fun to watch in any role
He was Bond twice and they are both among the very best Bond films, so yeah he was great. Definitely the best actor who ever played Bond, but is he the best Bond? I still think Sir Sean is hard to beat. I'd put Dalton in a solid second place, with Brosnan third.
For me he was peak bond
I always enjoy when Dalton shows up in anything I'm watching. Dude is a legend.
He was my favorite James Bond, Gallifreian Leader, and mayor of a sleepy English town.
Согласна с Вами! Обожаю его талант и внешность! И красивый, и талантливый, и смешной)❤

Timothy Dalton is the most underrated actor of all time. The best James Bond.
The man deserved a 3rd Bond film. He brought the edge back to Bond and laid the groundwork for what we would see in the Craig movies!
I was disappointed Dalton only did 2
Conleth hill was in a farewell to arms 1932 with Gary cooper adolphe menjou Adrian Dunbar
Before we got the dark gritty Bond by Daniel Craig, he did it first with License to Kill my favorite Bond movie
Mine too
My favourite Bond film also is LTK
Dalton could be dark in The Living Daylights as was more serious and brought back the edge that was missing in the Moore films including the scene when his friend Saunders was killed and even fellow M16 agents at the beginning of film could see the anger in his eyes and tone of voice. When he knocked out Puskins guard and hit Pushkin when tried to warn his guard and saying “That was damned stupid could tell Bond wasn’t messing around and could be more like Connery and the Daniel Craig of his time.
That was indeed the darkest Bond movie and true to the novels.
The most Ian Fleming James Bond 👤
Cubby Broccoli actually wanted Dalton to do Goldeneye and 3 more films so your wrong!!!
Yep, too bad he turned down those films.😢
The man was 20, 30 yrs ahead of his time. Fantastic. Best Bond Ever
Timothy Dalton is terrific, probably the last of a generation in the classically trained Shakespearean actors. I think after Bond he kinda had a Slump with filmmakers just using him because of his bond connection. However when 2007 rolled around Hot Fuzz really re-established him.
We then got him in Chuck, Penny Dreadful, Doom Patrol, The Crown, and Yellowstone 1923.
It’s a shame we never got his 3rd bond film.
And it’s a shame, because the man new James Bond from the back of his hand, and he looks like him because he is him. It’s just so sad that we were robbed of the third film, because of a confident see with MGM in the fucking studio and being just turn 78 God the man is stunning.

Licence to Kill is straight up my all time favourite Bond movie!
The best bond song and bond beginning to a bond film is The Living Daylights. The best Bond is Sean Connery. The Best R-Rated Bond movie is Licence To Kill and yes since 2006 the digital version of Licence To Kill is the R-Rated version. It's way different than the vhs dvd laser disc pg-13 version up to that point. You can even see a youtube video about the differences. Some people who worked on the film snuck in the R-rated on digital in 2006 and it makes the movie even more awesome. I even have the pg-13 and r-rated versions. I just thought it was great that it got the release that it deseed. 007
Loved Mr. Dalton as James Bond as well as his guest appearance on "Chuck".
He became Rassillon, the Master of the Time Lords. And he looked a lot better in THIS incarnation than he did in the LAST incarnation (in The Five Doctors)....
He was also brilliant as Prince Rupert in Cromwell
Glad he is doing just fine, because that man is very fine !!! Love me some Dalton!
Dalton is one of our best yet underappreciated actors. It would have been really interesting to see him play Alfred in a Batman film.
Maybe when he was younger he could have played Bruce Wayne
@@crishl19 , absolutely 💯
He was reportedly under consideration for Batman V Superman. While I think he would have been good in the role I'm grateful that we got to see him as The Chief in Doom Patrol instead.

My respect and love for Dalton’s portrayal as James Bond has only grown over the years. He was trying so hard to break Bond free from “the formula” and yet was unfortunately impossibly chained to it. It also didn’t help that he was following Roger Moore who, in the 7 films he had done, had ingrained his lighter, more funny, more relaxed Bond into the psyche of the film going public. What I absolutely love about Dalton’s Bond is that he had all these subtleties to his performance. He wasn’t trying to play Bond as a one liner superhero stereotype. He was a man. An imperfect man who at times, let his emotions show through when things got the better of him. For the first time in a LONG time, you FELT what it was like to be Bond and much of the time, it was NOT pleasant. Dalton made Bond once again a man you could genuinely believe was who he said he was. As far as I’m concerned, Dalton walked so Craig could run.
Absolutely!
Timothy Dalton is a very underrated performer and actor everything that I’ve seen him in. He stands out to a degree with that being said I think plain James Bond helped, but it also hurt his career his movies within the James Bond or some of the best movies within the series that’s his Claris day, but I think this is a classic example of someone doing a part so well to the point where they’ve been typecast as that person.
Neville Sinclair is my second favourite role of his after James Bond.
If I could go back and alter Bond history, Roger Moore would have left after Moonraker and Timothy Dalton would have done all five Bonds of the 80's!
Roger Moore was making the franchise too much money. If I had my way, Moore would have finished the 80's.
@@stickmanbw I think keeping Moore so long ultimately hurt the series in the long run. Between '81 and '85, younger action heroes made the Bond series look rather antiquated. They should have wiped the slate clean at the beginning of decade and started with a new, harder edged Bond. Even Moore admitted that he was way too old when he did A View To a Kill.
The way I understand it Moore was ready to step down after Moonraker. However FYEO was John Glen's directorial debut (he previously handled second unit) and didn't want to start with an untested Bond. Then 1983 was the 'Battle of the Bonds' and Cubby Broccoli didn't want a new Bond going up against Connery in NSNA.
@@doctorvanya Yes, those are fair reasons not to appoint a new Bond but 1985, there should have been a switch. Also, it would have been highly desirable to get a new director and writer.
What happened to Timothy Dalton? He turned into a werewolf and was killed by Beverly Diangelo. Mystery solved, next case.
You really need to change the name of this series. "What happened to..." doesn't apply to 95% of the videos
Cubby Broccoli wanted Dalton to come back as Bond for Goldeneye. Dalton stated he would’ve been happy to do one more film, maybe two tops, but they wanted him to do like three to five and Dalton didn’t want that.
he stole the show in Toy story 3.
Thanks for this video. I have loved Timothy Dalton since I saw him in the 80’s in Flash Gordon. I have followed his career since then . He has had an amazing career. Penny Dreadful was one of his best performances. That’s such an underrated series.❤❤ thanks Joe Blo.
You've got to stop me! I'm a slasher!
Of prices!
He was really funny in Hot Fuzz in a very dark way, especially the scene with that mini church was so gross but hilarious
Тимоти Далтон-величайший актёр современности!
I thought he was excellent as Bond but the films/stories were not that good.
Daltz! Loved him. Damn shame he didn't get more Bond films. And both The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill made a lot of money worldwide especially Daylights which outgrossed many of Roger's movies. Unfortunately Licence to Kill got lost in the 1989 summer crush in the US but it did well elsewhere still making money for MGM/UA. He would have got a third film if not for the MGM legal issues which halted Bond films for the next six years.
Hihgly recommend an old Charlie's Angels episode where he plays a cat burglar as a curio.
Timothy Dalton has always been my favourite Bond he's a great actor and Flash Gordon is just awesome
Timothy Dalton without a doubt is one helluvan actor. Easily of the best to portray Bond (Sorry. Connery #1 for me.). Was awesome in Hot Fuzz... Aw hell! He been awesome in most of what I've seen him in!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Phenomal actor. The best character in the Chuck Tv series by far.
He's my favorite Bond actor, it's just too bad that the audience at the time didn't want a more serious Bond. He's great in Doom Patrol, I stopped watching that show when his character is no longer in it.
Probably my favourite Bond. He was almost exactly like the books in looks and character.
And from literally the next town over from mine Colwyn bay.
Yes, he looks like James on the cover of the pan paperback covers of the Fleming books!
Conleth hill was in cry wolf 1947 with Errol Flynn Jerome Cowan Richard basehart John ridgeley Rory Mallinson Patricia white Barbara stanwyck Paul Stanton Jamie dornan
He was my favorite Bond just wish he got to do more. Penny Dreadfull i also thought he was great but think i enjoyed him most in Hot Fuzz.
i guess if you actually read the books, it would make more sense. Bond was not "campy"...he was deadly.
Who says no-one ranks Dalton as the best Bond? 🤨🤔😉
What happened to Michael T. Weiss!
The Pretender.
Roger Moore was the best. His Bond movies were the best. Timothy Dalton was boring as hell. I don't give a fuck what any of you say, including this uploader.
Amazing bond actor who came into the scene at the wrong time… he was younger, he would of been an amazing fit in goldeneye and casino royale
Where’s the cigarette?
All this video did was namedrop his movies. Might as well have been reading his IMDB credits.
I always considered him to be the best Bond. He may have only had two movies, but they were great and Licence To Kill is one of the best in the entire series.
him as Sir Malcom in penny dreadul was the Best!
He also played Rasilon in Doctor Who
whereas moore isn't much outside bond and his series
Didn’t he have a cigarette in that thumbnail image?
Loved Timothy in Doom Patrol. Cast Mr. Dalton as Killian in Edgar Wright’s, Running Man!
Best Bond
He looked better than ever in the rocketeer,,
Timothy Dalton in Chuck was so wholesome to me, along with Linda 🥰
I don't know how anyone can take a Bond Film seriously and say Dalton was a gritty Bond, his car could shoot a laser and he escaped on a Cello case in his first film. In his second film, he managed to put a truck on two wheels. Please grow up people.
He was a very good Bond 🙌
He is an exceptional actor.
