- Salzburg has some of the most beautiful and oldest Christmas markets in Europe. They are held in the heart of the Old Town, on the square in front of the Salzburg Cathedral and on the Residenzplatz or on the castle directly above the city, where there is a magnificent view of the whole city and the surrounding area.
A huge experience is the Krampus Run, when a group of devils and Krampus, accompanied by Saint Nicholas, run through the city in the evening hours.
Hellbrunn Castle has been hosting exceptionally atmospheric Christmas markets for more than 20 years. The varied general program, the romantic atmosphere of the castle grounds and the pre-Christmas idyll in the south of Mozart's city attract families with children in particular.
