I have an identical E70 LCI 40d to what's being reviewed. Really good family car over the last 2 years. Had the ZF 8 Speed serviced at 90k miles and a remap to give it the true 306bhp it should have come out of the factory with (at the wheels, rather than at the crank). I get about 25mpg on short journeys around the rural gloucestershire hills, but that raises to 33mpg on long runs on the M4 and M5. Really good load lugger and country cruiser.
I love this car, but I have this question, I always heard that this is the first SUV that changed everything.. But isnt the range rover and land cruiser had it first.. They were fast and they had better off road capabilities... and am sure they existed before 1999.
My E70 LCI 3.0D has electric tailgate, HUD and air suspension as well. Downside is no spare wheel as there is nowhere to put it because of the third seat (which I am never likely to use anyway, but all LCI into Australia come with them as standard). It is that bulletproof ZF 8 speed that is most attractive for me though.
