- In this video I show you how I make a shortened oil pan for my vr6 using a r32 oil pump.
s-pautomotive....
Oil pump Has gone up $75 since making this video
Make sure before you buy a oil pump that is works with a mk5 r32. check the part numbers.
I just used the method on my BDF. Bought the pump and mk3 pan and did all the steps you did. Thankyou so much and kudos!
That’s so awesome! Happy it worked for you!
In the time i owned a mk3 i welded a 10mm steel plate on the pan, never had problems with my pan after that.
I kept getting stuck from my pan hitting the ground in my driveway. Had to trim it
I think it's worth the protection. I know a ton of guys who are like "if you ain't rubbin, you ain't dubbin". They say that until they crack the pan, starve the engine, and then have 4 dead VR6's in the back yard. And now, with that extra clearance, you could make a skid plate, so you only have to worry about 1 engine.
I'll be doing this for sure on a few of my lowered cars. Either DIY or buy the shortened pan. Where I live (Calgary Alberta), I swear nobody knows how to build a road, so we've got a lot of spots where the manholes are easily 3" off the deck; often with no "mound" around them, meaning the edge of the manhole is proud of the ashphalt.
Between me and my kids, we have like 6 VWs that are lowered. I don't want to be putting new engines into them every other week.
Loved the use of the home-bru hyrdo dipping.
Coulda done it either/or.
Paint right on the pan when it's sitting in the water, it gives the same line.
This is a good way to shorten or lengthen items though.
VR6 new painted ? hehe its wow sound mufflyer 😁😉😊👍💪🦾💪👀
I used a engine rise kit for £60 that solved my problem with clearance on the sump on my vr6 full of poxy speed bumps in London they recked 2x sumps that kit best thing I bought
Are you using mk3 subframe? And could you link for the rise kit? I've. Just don't a vr6 in a mk1 and the oil pan is on the floor
Done the same on my mk4 , 20mm raisers, and a removed engine cover
With mk1 it has different mount setup. So you’re not able to raise it. On my old mk3 I did what you’re talking about and it worked great
BUBBLES!!!! 👍👍😁
Not a bad idea to get your reference line on the pan. Probably wouldn't have been too hard to shorten/ modify the stock 12v oil pickup tube. Getting the metal clean enough to weld would be the trick most likely. You should consider throwing in a windage tray and possibly some trap doors/ baffle around the strainer. Lots of folks run a thicker plate on the bottom of the pan, or you could always make yourself a skid plate that covers it all. Probably what I'd do in the future to finish the job. Nothing wrong with some 'CAD' aka Cardboard Aided Design for a template. LMAO. 😄👍
That paint idea is genius!
I was surprised it worked so well.
I was thinking for your new pan, you should paint "hello" on one side of it and then "it's me" on the other side. :D
😂😂😂 might have to do that. Every time I see the hello I for some reason think of uncle Leo from Seinfeld 😆
New sub here and loving the content. Absolutely brilliant method. I would have never thought of hyrodipping to get accurate measurements. IMHO, it's money well spent... all it would take is one raised manhole cover and you'd be sourcing a new motor. Just a shame you can't raise the motor slightly like you can on a mk2.
Definitely worth it… maybe you won’t notice it at first but in the long haul (not having to continuously replace oil pans and or a r32 motor.
I’ll be tackling this some as my engine is out at the moment, from smashing the pump and starving it. Definitely worth it
It’s been holding up great for me really hope you have good luck with it
Nice DIY! You answered my question though... think I'll just buy a shortened one haha
Thanks you! It was for sure a lot of work but it was a lot of fun figuring it out.
@@gtijoe2419 Did you work out how much oil capacity you lost? It looks like the aftermarket ones account for this.
I went the smash pan route. Got it made with quarter inch steel plate. And also got 17mm engine raisers. Hockey pucks work too
I wish I could to the engine spaces in the mk1 i did them in my old mk3 vr6
Awesome video dude, also stop spray painting near the damn 911 you maniac 😂
Hi, what mags are those i l❤'em, i mean the way it sits is just awesome. is there a video about them
Dis good. Keep doin
Tanks love
Sorry my mic is still so so guys. I’m still trying to figure out the best one to get next. It’ll be my third mic 😏
Nice job bro
thanks so much!
How do you read the level of the oil? Did you just subtract the same amount from cutting your oil pan to your dip stick and etch out new lines?
Yea I’m going to subtract and see how that works for me. I’m not sure how they do it if you were to buy a shortened oil pan
Can you just cut the stock pick up and weld it back shorter?
I don’t think it would be easy to do. Cast aluminum is really hard to weld.
How do u make up for less oil capacity?
Most other people that run this setup just run a little less oil however i plan to add a oil cooler and that will add more oil to the setup.
I made the same assembly from France what size belt to take thank you very much for your help
I'm not sure what you mean by belt.
@@gtijoe2419 the belt that drives the alternator 😉
@@duranddurand9810 s-pautomotive.com/product/vr6-ac-power-steering-delete-belt/ this site has everything you need for the swap. I really like this company alot.
@@gtijoe2419 great thanks a lot. Do you inox if it delivers in France ? 😉
@@duranddurand9810 I’m not sure actually. I believe the one on my car is from a infinity but I’m not sure what model. It’s been a while since I’ve ordered it.
Did you need a mk5 r32 dipstick?
I’m still running the mk3 dipstick.
Hello! Я из России. Я так понял, что ты хочешь уменьшить просвет, между двигателем и поддоном. А не проще ли будет поднять проставками сам двигатель?
+5 сантиметров будет.
On this body style car it’s really hard to raise the motor because of how the mounts are. I’ve thought about it so much haha
