      @@sferg9582all it needs is a wedge that will push the hand-auto switch to the auto position when you close the door. Alternately you could have a microswitch that overrides the hand-auto switch to tell the system that it should be in auto when the door is closed.

    My personal cabinet had the switches, but no plug or button for manual advance. Since I wanted to have this feature in operation in my cabinet, I went to Radio Shack to find a suitable button. I had to map out the inputs for the button on my panel and solder the button in on the back of the police panel. It's nice to have that feature on my cabinet as I can use it for testing purposes if I need it.

    Seems quite risky to change from Out to On and it just continues as nothing happened. When someone approaches the intersection and it changes directly to Red while someone else gets Green immediately, I feel like accidents are quite likely to happen. Here in Germany when you turn a traffic light on, it will also turn Red for the side road. But it stays dark for a while (lenght depending on the intersection) on the main road before turning Green. This way when turning lights on, when someone passes on the just appearing Red light, the other traffic doesn't see Green yet and are still in special attention mode since the lights are off

      Preemption control...Emergency vehicles must be equipped with the "SEND" equipment and the traffic signals must have the "RECEIVE" equipment for it to work. Can be strobe or GPS activated from the emergency vehicle. The controller must be programmed as well so when it receives a call from the preemption receiver, it knows which way to give a green light and for how long. Great question

    Do you have to deal with traffic lights at Railroad Crossing?
    If so, how do you maintain the traffic lights, for example, to clear the lanes for approaching trains?

    • @TheRealScooterGuy
      @TheRealScooterGuy 2 місяці тому +3

      I'm not Rob, but I can tell you that it's been determined what pattern they want the lights on when trains pass. The controller receives the signal from the railroad's controller and treats it as a preempt. The designated pattern of traffic lights is displayed until the train passes and the controller receives an "all clear" signal. There may be some different movements permitted, but certain movements will be completely blocked.

    • @jovetj
      @jovetj 2 місяці тому +1

      The RR equipment tells the traffic signal controller if a train is coming. The bespoke programing of the traffic signals then takes over according to engineering and safety need.

    • @ZachComa
      @ZachComa 2 місяці тому +1

      During the design of the signal, a giant chart is made for every scenario when a train comes. It gets even more complicated when that intersection has ped crossings and/or EVP. Those scenarios are programmed into the controller so it knows what to do when a signal is received from the RR. Where I work we call them choo choo charts.

    • @psirvent8
      @psirvent8 2 місяці тому +1

      @jameskinglion
      I don't know how it works in the US but here in France every crossing comes with a switch that will turn on the flashing red lights, bells and lower the gates just like if there was an approaching train.
      That way maintenance can close a crossing if they need to.
      And cars just wait or divert if the crossing is due to stay closed for an extended period.
      (Of course in that case there will be signs telling just that)

    • @jovetj
      @jovetj 2 місяці тому

      @@psirvent8 Such things exist here in the States too, called "Test Switches," but they have largely disappeared. Most crossings can be manually activated by accessing the signal bungalow or cabinet, or opening a gate mechanism cover and adjusting a test nut.

    Q: Are there accommodations for signal control cabinets to accept a generator input? Having retired from emergency services a while back, if there were power outages for extended times, manpower was dispatched to the intersection to either set up stop signs, or we would be tasked to manually controlling the intersection with officers in the traffic.....dangerous to say the least. I was arguing all the time that there should be the option to plug-in a generator during the outage to safely operate the intersection without putting humans in the dangerous areas of the roadway.

    • @TheRealScooterGuy

      In my area, I know of one super-critical intersection that doesn't seem to lose power when area lights go out. I suspect they have a battery system inside the cabinet. I don't know how long it will last.

    • @jovetj

      The rarity of needing a generator input probably doesn't justify the expense of installing a dedicated, weatherproof inlet for it. If it would be necessary, you can jsut open the cabinet and re-wire the signals to use the generator supply easily enough.

    My initial thought was the police officers remote button.
    The Kia boys are sure to escape the helicopter with a artificial intelligence heat sensing camera, the boys left clueless upon their capture.
    How are Engineers making police chases safer such as stopping cross traffic from getting green lights, spike strips built into the popular Escape Route with never miss absolute perfect timing..
    You can't watch all the cameras at once especially when there's so many, such a bore. How is artificial intelligence being applied?
    The camera show you enter the highway at the third intersection and exit at the 12th able to calculate the average speed of every vehicle. And who doesn't want the traffic app on their phone, that works in real time perhaps suggesting the best speed for a green light based on where Google knows you're going. GPS can see what no officer can see if you're perhaps not safe to drive. Soon they will have a button for all the new vehicles, if only Kia had the button today.

    Probably not something you should advertise how to do so troublemakers don't get any ideas and cause havoc!!

    Cop: What are you doing messing with the control panel?
    Guy: Just for a UA-cam video to demonstrate the traffic signal.

    Just curious... I've heard you're talking on the phone before. Why can't you just use that voice for your videos, instead of this irritating annoying yelling voice?

    messes with traffic to show off the manual controls for a video*. ... and "we're just testing out everything and making sure everything works here in this traffic signal controller cabinet...."
    Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the video, and maybe it was a test out after a service call, but if so... well, lead with that; cause it comes across as a CYA comment at that point.
    *not withstanding that it's ostensibly instructive/informative in nature.

      Every city and state has the chance to make and use 'city keys' in the US a bunch have kept the old time forged skeleton key from police/fire pull boxes, telegraph equipment for the Access Point While its not illegal to 'own' these .... using them can be problematic, replacements are all over ebay and other internet sellers. I have found most places have updated different 'Cabniet' keys for the main box to protect the valuable/sensitive equipment inside. all jokes aside :) own a piece of history if you want!

    we have similar in the UK, but is abused by the local council, they authorise absolute prats to cause chaos at "events" at the local stadium, this feature should NOT exist
