    Great video, 5 years ago here in Cambridge my family doc sent me to the cardiologist, I had 5 appointments and didn't see the doc once. His staff told me what tests he wanted, they told me the results of the tests, and also told me I did t need to have anymore visits. Was not impressed at all and neither was my family doc. He sent me to another doc in Guelph and was very hands on. Was great. Your videos show what we really should expect and that is great.

    The “White Coat” phenomenon is more than that. The need to disrupt the day, the drive in infernal traffic, the 30 minute hunt for a parking place, the walk into the office adds to the tension as we wait in the office all add to increased BP!

      And then the docs do it wrong. They don't have you sit and talk and relax first. They often just put on the cuff and take a reading. And they dangle your feet off the table. And your arm is not at heart level.Etc etc.

    Taking your own blood pressure, imo, is HUGE! When I first went to the cardiologist, the first appointment, I was so nervous and scared to be there. I knew I was going to be taking a stress test and was going to be hooked up to a monitor, I was having hip and knee problems and was worried I'd fall off the treadmill (funny how they have a stationary bike right there for you, just in case...NO EXCUSES!). Plus, I had a hard time finding parking and was running later than I wanted, so I was rushing to find the right place I needed to be. So, of course, my usual 120/70 was more like 140/90! I couldn't believe how high it was, and I told them that it never runs that high and I wasn't sure they believed me. Of course, they had me just sit and relax for about 15 or 20 minutes and it finally came down. But having numbers with me would have saved a lot of time.

    I apologize for the off topic but i wanna ask something looks a little confusing... I am on betablocker (propanalol) 20mg + 20mg for anxiety control (don't work very well but meh) and i wanna do sport for loose weight and build some muscles... I am 43 years old, my heart is ok but i do a sedentary life and honestly... I am done with that and wanna change something. I never found a clear answer about the betablockers and sport... Clearly the betablockers slow down the heartrate, so you can't reach the necessary heartrate you need for sport... But is same at my dosages? I mean... Is so low... 40mg total at day is the very minimum as long i know... What you doctors think?

    Why is it most Doctors do not tell patients how and why to eat healthy and exercise... also about things like magnesium, vitamin D and other vitamins that become depleted due to age and lifestyle...and the fact that there is no correlation between the use of stain drugs and the decrease in heart attacks..healthy life style is the key to a healthy heart ... people make choices ... I feel Doctors should at least tell the patients the truth as to why they are unhealthy..and then the patients will make the choice to become healthy or not..at least they were told or should I say warned ahead of time... I do realize some heart and or physical conditions are not caused by unhealthy life styles although most are.

    • @TalkingWithDocs
      @TalkingWithDocs  3 роки тому

      Hi Patty. Doctors do talk about exercise and healthy eating but patients don't listen. Do you think most people don't know that eating healthy and exercising regularly is good for them? As for the statins, we would disagree but that is up to you to take a statin or not. Elevated LDL is a very specific risk factor for a cardiac event. Hello Doctors! My heart attack came out from nowhere. I was very active, played tennis once a week, work out at the gym 2x a week, and weigh 150lbs for a 5'10 guy. Before this happened, there were no warning signs and 5 years back, my cardiologist gave me a green light and everything was great. When it happened, I had a stent inserted as there was one blockage (80%). Weird part was, no warning signs!

But wheezing just started. Third sign abdominal swelling. Fourth sign fatigue. Fifth sign anxiety. I'm gonna book an appointment and see a cardiologist just to rule out asthma since I do have a cat. Three years ago I went through preliminary tests and was given an appointment to have a stent inserted. I drove to the hospital with my overnight bag. But after further testing I was prepped, then told I would need a double bypass. I could elect to have it then or wait to be scheduled in the next few months. My wife was back at home 40 miles away. After a few minutes of thought, I elected to have it done right away. They allowed my wife time to arrive. It literally came down to the team tracking her progress. When she was coming up the elevator, they started to wheel me into surgery. We met for a minute in the hallway. I recovered in 6 days and went home. Life can change in a minute.🙂

This happened when he saw a cardiologist for a-fib & the endoscopy revealed the hugely leaking valve. Been quite the “ journey”. He’d been fatigued for quite a while before we went to our Doc for an EKG. other twist to this is that he had endocarditis 4 years prior. Our Dr says that’s 100% responsible for his condition. Don't be shy as a patient when you know there is something going on with your body. Make it known there is something abnormal going on and be persistent. It took me years to get properly diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. I had chest pains every now and then for years. I also felt like I was burning my lungs with heavy exertion (Running/Motocross, etc.). The signs were not obvious as I never had a heart attack, so there were never any abnormalities on the EKG or the blood tests. Finally got on a tread mill which led to getting the proper referrals and tests to come to a diagnosis. Bam! My entire life explained in a single diagnosis. I always though I was just out of shape, but in the end I just was not pumping enough blood.

On Tuesday the cardiologist took an EKG. I watched the eyes of the tech who was takin' my EKG. Her eyes got really large ! She left and the doctor came in to inform me that I was having an event ! They told me to go to the hospital about a mile away. I drove there. Once at the hospital I received great care. I had a five day "event" and the lower portion of my heart doesn't pump as it should. There's simply a lot that can be done if you preventively reach out a cardiologist, but unfortunately people will often only remember them when things are bad. When it started happening to me it was triggered twice in two weeks by eating salty food, but it was the same food I had eaten before with no problems. I literally rode it out both times. That was a mistake, but the third time I went to the medical clinic telling them "I think I'm having a heart attack", and they swarmed me with the best care ever instantly, called the ambulance, sent me to the ER and saved my life. I had 3 stents put in because it was a bifurcation.
