Given that the Iranian attack was announced well in advance, and the Israeli response was in turn quite limited in scale, it seems to suggest that both Israel and Iran don’t want to risk all-out war and that these attacks are glorified PR stunts to placate the more hawkish elements of their respective governments.
Or at least, that’s what I hope…
Israel killed a few families in a strike on Iran (according to an obscure article I saw). So it wouldn’t necessarily take much. Iran already have sanctions coming down on them and their allies in Iraq are getting bombed.

That was my thought when Iran retaliated. The attack they launched was rather weak compared to what they could have pulled off. Neither side wants to go all in over this though, it would bring ruin to both countries.

I agree with you. I also think they want to thrill the media. But the rules have definitely changed. Iran is encouraged by the apparent success of Hamas and wants to defend its nuclear programme, so it is no longer tolerating the frequent attacks by Israel on its personnel and has made that clear

In 1964 the PLO was founded. PLO was willing to give up the entirety of Gaza and the West Bank to create a Palestinian state in what is currently Israel.
In 1967 Israel conquered the West Bank and Gaza. After losing the land they had previously conquered, Egypt, Jordan and the Palestinians wanted an independent state in the territories they had just lost.
