I have a jar of dehydrated turkey. I cut it into small cubes about a centimeter in size before drying. They're little crumbs now but they drired beautifully and have kept 2 years already! I take great delight in using it in my 'instant soup" mix which I make for "cup a soup" in a jar. In my mix, it's all mixed together and you just scoop out enough for a single cup.
Do you cook the turkey beforehand and then dehydrate? I have minced beef dehydrated, no oil added to the pan just water, and then dehydrate. Apparently it has a long shelf life. What temperature do you dehydrate your turkey cubes in? Thanks!
I am so grateful to hear you have instructions on making bullion!! I get severe 3-day migraines from MSG. I'm definitely going to watch so I can make my own. I'm always altering my ingredients to avoid it. I even have issues at restaurants. It's a real pain but because of these migraines, I started eating healthy and reading labels when I was in my late teens. God bless and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!
I use freeze-dried Chopped Chicken, Celery, & Carrots in my Chicken Soup Mix jars. My husband says it is the best soup ever! I like having a complete meal on the shelf for emergency, illness, or I don't want to cook days! Each jar does need to be sealed with an oxygen absorber, as per the directions in: "The Meals in a Jar Handbook", by Stephanie Petersen. The recipe I used was nearly identical to Mary's. I can't wait to use my own dehydrated chicken stock for my new batch! I like to use fine soup noodles. I add summer savory, black pepper, & sage as the soup is re-hydrating. I love making all of your recipes, Mary! Thank You So Much!
You are an Amazing Woman who’s Goals in The Kitchen and Health that I’m Passionate About 😃. You make it easy to do things when I think that it’s something new that I was to try 🤗. Thanks Mary❣️❣️❣️
The first thing I look forward to is...."hi sweet friends" and that beautiful smile. The next thing I wait for, is the recipe. I come here with pen and paper 🤣
Hi Mary. So glad your doing these home made mixes, they are soooo. Delish. My husband is hooked on them and I love them also. I do have to make a few small changes due to my health. Also using your recipes I 've lost 8lbs in 3mths which is a mile stone for me. Bless you Mary and love your in detail explanations.
Hi Mary, I checked the recipe looking to find out the ratio of soup mix to water for a mug of soup but it only gave the amount for using the whole jar. I would love that info. pretty please! Also I'm into making your mixes - it's completely fascinating.Thank you so much! 🌹🌷
Hi my sweet friend, I am so glad you made a video of the soups in a jar! I love making different things in a jar and I’m adding this to my list. I don’t always comment but I watch you and love your channel. Wishing you and your family a very happy Thanksgiving. Love you, Dolores 🥰😘🦃🦃
Thank you. I am interested lately in dry soup mixes. At times I just don't want to cook a meal for myself. I'm wanting a collection of soup mix ideas I can keep on hand.
Have the soup ,scone, and a cake mix ready to send in post tomorrow morning thank you so much for all the information she will get a lovely surprise in the post
In the recipes that you give using dehydrated veggies, bouillon, etc., would freeze dried veggies/broth work? We just purchased a freeze dryer and I’ve heard the freeze-dried products retain more nutrition than dehydrated. Thank you for all you do to help us eat healthy. (I’ve watched so many of your videos that my husband says “Hi, Mary” whenever he comes in the room and sees you.
Another well done video, Mary! 💜 What you were saying about dehydrating some vegetables sure rings too! I sliced my carrots on a mandolin and it still took 2 days (unplugged at night). So worth it though.🙂 I was just looking online at the leak proof lids. Just want to caution other Nesters to Shop Around. Lots of price gouging in these strange times.
I came across her video on how to make and use whey. I couldn’t help but just say that I was 5 seconds into the video, and her joyfulness, and happiness made me want to subscribe that very instant!!! Please keep uploading videos, I would love to watch more of such videos. The passion you show and have in all that you cook just draws everyone towards watching your videos!!! 🤩 🤩 🤩 👌
Hi Jeannie, thank you so much for the kind words! I estimate the shelflife of this in about six months. If you open the description under the video you’ll see the word recipe with a link next to it. That link will take you over to my website where I have the printable recipe and a lot more information about this. Love, Mary
Thank you Mary another wonderful idea❤..I love the cram mushroom mix soup and I can't wait to make a mix of this one...and I made hot chocolate mix and coffee creamer and powder bullion love all of them and I have idea for 2 more videos 1-how to dehydrate tomatoes and after that 2-how to make tomatoes mix soup...those dry mixes are life savers for me because when we go for kayaking camping me and my husband we are only take food which can be mix with water soo you are the angel who I found to help me to take healthy food with us for our trips God blessed you😘
I love this. I have so many allergies in my family that prepared foods are not really an option for us. I make something similar but never thought to use dried veggies. I use a frozen mirpoix mix and stock with cooked chicken and leftover noodles. A plug for the only msg, yeast free bullion cubes/powder I can find is GoBio. They're pricey but taste really good and there's nothing in there that isn't good for you. The vegetables bullion is great, the chicken is good, but there's no yeast free for beef bullion.
love your channel Mary! You are a blessing to us all! Do you have any recipes that would make 1 or 2 servings of instant soup that is shelf stable? I am looking to make ahead jars for work lunches. Like cream of broccoli, butternut squash etc. Any tips or ideas would be great. Anyone else have some recipes to share would be great. I have searched and could not fine any. I don't want to make a can of cream of whatever soup but individual servings. Would you follow the same? Thanks to anyone for some input.
I love these videos. You were inspiration behind my dehydrated broth / bullion, veggie mix for soups, and figuring out how to do the broccoli cheddar soup mix in a dehydrated shelf stable way.. I was wondering if you could try other soups. I just had some coconut and lemongrass thai soup and if I could get a recipe for that shelf label I would be ecstatic.
I found you by chance and I'm so glad that I did! I'm super excited cause today I got a vacuum food saver and a dehydrator. Now I'm going to binge watch all your videos! Question.. can i use the food saver to extend the shelf life of the soup mix?
I appreciate all these video's you make for us viewers. Your soothing to listen to, you remind me of my Grandmother. She taught me some things. Grandma use to make her own pasta, homemade noodles, & boil them down in her Chicken Broth from boiling her Chicken Breast on the bone with the Chicken Skin left on, or she boiled a whole Chicken then cool the Chicken so she could pull the tender Chicken off the whole Chicken for Homemade Chicken Pot Pie in her cooking pot after it came to a rolling boil with fresh frozen Peas from her garden, & sliced Carrots with chunked Chicken Onion, Celery, & Diced Potatoes after it was all done she put Biscuits on top & baked till brown on top. Ever hear about this homemade Pot Pie in the Cooking Pot? Just here lately I been getting Headaches, & I think its from MSG, good grief the MSG is everywhere. Golly I so appreciate all these video's thank you so much Sweet Mary🤗❤😘 How are you doing Sweet Mary? We are doing pretty darn good for bein old birds. Its 68° today, golly I was real hot today. Hello Mary! I am trying to make a long term storage pantry for up to a year. If I vacumned sealed this recipe in a glass jar using an oxygen absorber do you think it would still be good in a year? Thank you. And I LOVE your channel. You are so confident that you make me confident when I am duplicating your recipes. Becky 😊
I am so glad I found your channel, as this is now the second mix that I want to make for a goft. The first one was the hot cocoa mix. I did not know that bouillon powder was easy to make and that you don't need a dehydrator to do that! I make other jarred dried soup mixes for g8fts, so I will check out your bouillon video. How much bouillon powder is the equivalent of one bouillon cube?
I worked diligently until I found a dehydrated chicken method that worked for me. Fat is the enemy and needs to be kept to a minimum. I dehydrate it starting at a higher heat and as it dries lowering the heat. I take it to the point it looks like hard wood chips. It's ugly, but delicious even then, if you seasoned it. I vacuum pack it in canning jars and store them in a cool dark pantry. Done like this the shelf life is 3 to 5 years. Obviously the older it is, the less desirable the taste will be. The trick is I how to rehydrate it. You're very right, it wouldn't work in a quick soup mix, unless you powdered it. If I'm going to make chicken and dressing or dumplings, at least 4 hours before I need it, I open a jar and pour it in my small pressure cooker (it might work in a slow cooker for an even longer time, but I've never tried it). For a quart of chicken I add a generous 2 quarts of water. Unlidded, bring it to a simmer. Remove it from the heat. Put on the lid. Making sure it's locked on correctly. Add a 10 pound pressure weight. Put it back on a low heat; it won't every jiggle. Leave it alone for 4 hours! At that time, check to see if It's tender and reconstituted to the texture of cooked chicken. If not, add a little more water if necessary, repeat the low cooking for another hour, as many times as it takes. I measure the 'broth' and add bouillon powder as needed. Use as any canned chicken pieces.
I made a chicken stock paste that I dehydrated, and use for soups like bouillon powder. I will try for chicken but I would precooked in some shape or form before dehydrating. I have done it with minced beef.
Wow, Thank you so much sweet Mary!!! I never thought of using the thin speghetti and breaking it into little pieces to make a shelf stable chicken soup. My husband always likes to eat the Lipton cup a soup when he isn't feeling good. I cannot eat it as I am allergic to msg's. Now I have a soup I can eat! Yeah!!! This is just wonderful. One more thing, do you have a quick way to cut all of those speghetti's?
Hi Robin, that’s a great question! I really don’t. I just start breaking it up with my hands. But you might be able to put it into a plastic bag and go over it with a rolling pin. That might work. Love, Mary
My very frugal mom just collected little broken bits of pastas in a canning jar and that's what we got in noodle soups. The neighbor kids, Terri and Stevie, got Alphabet noodles in their soups. We were a little bit jealous. But don't you know, I have a jar of broken pasta bits in my cupboard! Just for when a soup needs a bit of noodle.
I heard that my grandmother, during the Depression, would cook dried beans with meat drippings. Then if there was any leftover after a few meals, she'd dehydrate them. And she ground it up to a flour consistency and made bread out of it. Can you imagine?
Exactly. So many boxes say thin spaghetti these days… Which always gives me a chuckle… Given my Italian heritage… But I wanted to say “thin” spaghetti...that so that people would know what I was talking about. LOL! Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
Hi Mary, Another great video! Any plans for homemade noodles? I am always giving you more work! Have a happy Thanksgiving and enjoy having your son home😘
Three Questions: 1. What do you think the shelf life be like if you vacuum sealed and used an oxygen absorber? 2. How about some lentils? 3. When I cook pasta I always rinse it (because that's what I thought we should do) so, does the soup look a little cloudy since it has become the pasta cooking water? Thanks.
What's wrong with a little pasta water? It will give the soup a little more body, more substance -- yes, a little more starch! I won't speak for Mary, but since you suggest it -- A good idea, btw! -- regular lentils would probably take longer to cook, closer to 15 or 20 minutes, so you might want to start them first -- that is, not with the jarred ingredients, but ahead of them. But split Red lentils will cook up in 5 or 8 minutes..And THAT would be Grand! You've given me an idea, for my own soup mix. No one need ever worry -- I don't produce any videos for any kind of "competition" with anyone. I simply adapt what I learn here and elsewhere for my own use, in my own home. And I appreciate what I learn from many youtubers. Everyone's circumstances are different.
Mrs. Mary, hi there sweet lady! I am wondering if you use the Ball vacuum sealer lid for things? If so, do you know where I might find the standard lid with wide mouth lid set? I have started dehydrating a lot of foods to keep them from going bad but finding an affordable version of those is so hard! If I can't find that set any time soon, do you have any recommendations as to what to do to preserve dehydrated food in mason jars?
@G-man thank you so much for your feedback. I've never heard of oven canning but now I'm going to go look it up. Lol! I just want to be able to seal my dehydrated stuff so it doesn't go moldy
@G-man Thank you sir! I only buy Ball brand canning jars so will they be okay to use? I know some people repurpose jars from things they buy in them in the grocery store but I'm too paranoid to risk canning of any kind in those. They are good for storing shelf items like pasta and flour but I would never use them for canning.
I assume that we can make them in Pint jars or even half pint jars? Since there is only me I'm thinking a quart of noodle soup but not be eaten as quickly as one of the others. How about it? Live from North Central Texas.
Thanks for sharing. I need to learn to duplicate the Asian one. Instead of eating it like a soup you mix soy sauce with some white substance. I need to look at the ingredients to see what exactly they are. Haven't eaten it in a long time. Fire though need to make a year's worth of tamarind seasoning to make sinigang. I'll have to figure out the ratios of each ingredient. I'm thinking I will start out with equal amounts of everything except for the salt. I will use less of that. Otherwise it would be too salty. We're doing well. Daniel has some non instructional days coming up where he has school work to do but no life conferences. He only gets two days off this year.
I froze my turkey wing bones from thanks giving dinner after I pulled all the meat off. And some of the drippings for a soup I made about 2 weeks later
Mary, what's the recipe to get your husband to stop playing yodeling Dolly Parton songs? He's dancing with the dogs. While I'm amused, I'm moderately over it. Lol
Other ingredients to avoid (excitotoxins) would be chemical isolates derived in a laboratory including anything "enriched", "fortified" different "proteins"and many "extracts" just as yeast extract. Avoid them even if they come from plants because they have been isolated from other constituents and buffers they were bound to in the plant . Plants such as "peas" are whole foods. Pea proteins and yeast extracts are NOT whole foods.

Hi Abby, this is wonderful to here!! So glad you are enjoying the recipes. Love, Mary
Thank you very much your voice is soothing and I love your videos,so helpful !
Golly I so appreciate all these video's thank you so much Sweet Mary🤗❤😘
How are you doing Sweet Mary? We are doing pretty darn good for bein old birds.

I just wanted to let you know made the make a head hot coco mix for my son and I loved it came out perfect the ratio was perfect . Thank You and Happy Holiday's
ALoha hugs 🤗 You have a awesome Kitchen. GbY. I am concerned about all the Glass Jars breaking in Earthquake.
Hi Mary, thanks for the recipe on soup started.
Hi Mary, I would say that about 1 level tablespoon is equivalent to 1 bouillon cube. Love, Mary
I am definitely making this
Wow, Thank you so much sweet Mary!!!
The small, flat noodles can be found in the Hispanic aisle of the grocery. They are called fideo.
Thank you for this. What about dry canning? Would that work with the pasta?
I really like your videos. Very helpful!
Thank you!! Glad you’re here!! Love, Mary ❤️🤗❤️
Smart!
Is it the bouillon that reduces the shelf life Mary? Or the fact that it’s not vacuum sealed?
Yum.
Do you make unleavened bread?
Thank you
I haven’t done a video about that yet but it’s a great idea! I’ll add it to the list. Love, Mary
Thin spaghetti? We call that vermicelli. Ready in a second! 👍
Exactly. So many boxes say thin spaghetti these days… Which always gives me a chuckle… Given my Italian heritage… But I wanted to say “thin” spaghetti...that so that people would know what I was talking about. LOL! Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
Thank you merry sorry marry can you pls list the dough for Rye bread thank you
How about a chocolate sauce for ice cream made with cocoa please?
This is wonderful but I have one question
You use glass jars for everything but can we use plastic ones?
Definitely - just make sure they are food safe. Love, Mary
Thanks Mary... Could we vacuum seal this soup mix?
Yes
Can this soup be made with rice noodles?
How nice to learn these skills! I never thought of homemade "Knorr" sides. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
Love your channel!
Thank you!! Glad you’re here!! ❤️🤗❤️
If you didn’t use the chicken bouillon powder how long would the shelf life be
Hi Mary,
Another great video! Any plans for homemade noodles? I am always giving you more work! Have a happy Thanksgiving and enjoy having your son home😘
Hi Melody, What a great idea!! Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
Using whole wheat flour, I forgot to add that. Thanks again for all you do!
Hi Kate, Definitely. That would work beautifully. How do you like living in north Texas? My son’s girlfriend lives up there. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
@@MarysNest I must love living here because I have all of my life. Pretty much within a 50 mile radius. Sad!!! Thanks.
Spagethi or other. 2 cups of liquid.meio copo veg crlerycenoura pimenta cebola alho outras ervashome made boulion powder
I add my thrive freeze dried chicken.
Where did you find the flat spaghetti noodles ?
Hispanic aisle--fideo.
It's linguini.
Who gives a thumbs down to someone making soup? WTH is wrong with people?
Bonjour if you can traduct in french thanks jana
Hi Jana, when you turn on the transcription, can you choose French as the transcribed language? Love, Mary
Lol
You could add in canned meat! Open the jar she has, cook it up and dump in the chicken or whatever meat you want! :)

The mixes in the store are too expensive and full of salt and perservative
nutrient rich foods... you mean neutricuticals?
Once again, you're amazing. Why don't most people think of these things? We need you to inspire us, and you do it like nobody else can. 💖
WOW!! Thank you so much for the kind words!! Love, Mary
