Umm, the lead singer has sort of a odd or at least seemingly odd view of his own fame and success. Its kinda hard to grasp or at least seems a little inconsitent too because they have some songs that have been insanely successful and played all the time on the radio that they still play. Mr jones, round here long december, hangin around etc, and he loves them. But a song like this and einstein on the beach he cant stand because as he says i heard them on the radio too much or they are too "poppy". But i just caught the end of rounders and heard this song and knew the voice but was sure i hadnt heard the song before and ive listened to A LOT of counting crows and even have owned some really obscure bootlegs that were made. And baby im a big star now as a title sounded familiar as a title or lyric but i hadnt heard the song. Kinda like i guess that the first album was august and everything after they didnt release that as a song for well over a decade after that.

Hello from the future. Just listened to The Bill Simmons Podcast he had Duritz on as a guest and they talked about this. Here's the story: Adam was asked to record a song for the movie by the director he said, "Hell yeah!" But, he had just given away the song colorblind for the movie Cruel Intentions. He was worried about having the album they were working on "This Desert Life" having songs that were on all these different soundtracks as well. So he told the director of rounders that he could have the song, but it couldn't go on the soundtrack and the director agreed. Then when it came time to start putting all the tracks for the "This Desert Life" album together Duritz didn't feel like the song fit on the album. So it ended up getting cut for a future release. When it came time to put "Baby, I'm a Big Star Now" on a new album he contacted the record label to get it and they didn't get back to him. Eventually he found out that they lost it, he thinks they lost it in the Universal fire en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Universal_Studios_fire, but he isn't sure. So there you go, by the way good luck getting through 2020-2021 you're going to need it.
