17:50 The Blindfold on these statues roughly means "Up For Rent". Whatever Spirits were housed in them left, and the blindfolds were meant to help keep evil spirits out long enough for a good spirit to come along.
Thank you for explaining! That's very interesting! I really wish he would cover more Asian horror games! They're so much scarier imo. And at the very least they are interesting and unique! I would much rather watch playthroughs of unique games like this with unique concepts and unique assets. Than a perfect polished Western haunted house/demonic possession game using the same assets or following the same boring derivative story we've seen a thousand times before. 🙄 At least this was interesting and entertaining even if it wasn't always scary.
I love how we keep meeting like this, CJ. Uploaded 6 minutes after I open UA-cam AND It's a Chinese made game! This spooky Chinese lady is very happy right now! Much love from Canada, never change!
I don’t know if this matters to you, but I found out that there’s a whole different game on Steam that is the Chinese version. This version only has English audio with various subtitle languages. The other version even the title is in Chinese and it only has Chinese audio and subs. No other language option.
All the “bride of the ___ god” stories I’ve read always end with a young girl being killed-sacrificed for the sake of a village. It was usually a water god, or a dragon god. Knowing that made it extra interesting watching the vid.
I really love cultural horror games! This one could use another six months to a year of work, but it wasn't terrible. I liked the paper doll exposition scene the most. The rest of the game needs that kind of attention. Enjoyed, as always!
"I have one Buddha, yes. But what about second Buddha?" made me giggle. Love your references! I always catch the it's always sunny quotes too, love it! 😂
The story had a Fatal Frame Lite feel to it. Interesting. Wonder how much is based in actual folklore, and how much embellishment was involved. I do like that the puzzles were varied. It does keep things fresh as you said. Pity parts of it were so janky, but overall an interesting little game. Thanks, Chris!
Only YOU could have gone through this crazy game this quickly. "Janky" indeed! Looks-wise, it reminded me of games from like 15+ years ago, just texture-mapped out the wazoo. And oh, so DARK! Still, kinda funny and enjoyable!
Lovely, another Chinese game! I really like Asian horror stories. Great play-through! The environments looked interesting and pretty polished. The jump-scares were hit and miss.
28:05 made me laugh. CJU has such an air of an uncle just kind of quietly dealing with a very young nephew who's just learned what jokes are, but not what actually makes them funny
Just been watching 'SWOL plays' playing renovator, CJU has just appeared as an Easter egg, SWOL gave CJU a shout out! Shame the easter egg wasn't in the bathroom.
This game has a lot of ideas and like the cultural context - the character is clearly very comfortable with/accepting of the lore's language which makes its existence very natural. Unfortunately the game's overall connective tissue is rather missing, as I like the potential here.
I enjoy watching your videos so much I deleted my music app that I listened to all the time. All I want to hear are your games. They’re so entertaining and your reactions are great.
River God was often disjointed with some teeth-gritting audio, and it was a bit of a study in when enough is enough. Also, what's the Mandarin idiom for "janky"? 😊 But, all in all, it was a decent folk-horror game, imo, made much more palatable by CJU's commentary.
7:19 lol I love how the drawer sounded just like the cabinet being opened when you opened it… but it sounded like a room door closing when you closed it 😊
For a moment I thought this was the doll Observation Duty like game that recently came out...... you actually may enjoy it! It's called: "Doll Impostor". You know what game I miss & would love to see a new playthrough...... White Day 1 & 2..... I believe the Dev made a remake version. Asian folklore games are almost always fantastic to watch for me because of the inherent creepiness.
Something you never say in a horror movie or a horror game it is finally over the protagonist said it that is like the equivalent of saying I'll be right back in a horror movie or game it never goes well
Games like this really make me glad for let's players. Can never imagine making through this game, especially with how annoying the sound and music is. The discordant section around the music room is even worse because it just keeps going on and on and on. Kudos to CJU for actually making it through with only one snap at the game to quiet down.
Sacrificing young girls just never seems to work out does it? Just turns out to be a jerk priest trying to blame someone else for all their problems. I think with a little more time in the oven this could have been a great game. As it is, 7/10. Thanks for sticking through this one Chris.
I'm only 45 minutes in (have to cut it short tonight, I'll finish the video tomorrow), but this has to be one of the most disjointed games I've seen you play in a while. I like the environments though ! EDIT 24 hours later, now that I'm done with the game : not a lot to add, really Super disjointed game, some nice environments, very janky as Chris said, nice variety regarding the gameplay.
Yes! More Asian horror games! They're so much scarier imo. And at the very least they are interesting and unique! I would much rather watch playthroughs of unique games like this with unique concepts and unique assets. Than a perfect polished Western haunted house game using the same assets or following the same boring derivative story we've seen a thousand times before. 🙄 At least this was interesting and entertaining even if it wasn't always scary.
I'm with you here, some parts were pretty boring, some was really good and tense. I also think that sometimes there was a lack of..... plot. I mean I thought a few times that we really don't see a point where to go or why and so the plot was kinda rushed on the player.
Hey Cju! having just played hotel dusk, it just occurred to me your profile image for your channel is Kyle Hyde! id love to see you play some ds horror games (just using emulation).
Love the graphics ; very intriguing game . But yes , why are there always mannequins? I have always maintained that you are the best horror game companion ; thanks again Chris , for your bravery and hilarious style !
The part with the sword and the chains was super cool, but a shame it took until the last 20 minutes for the game to get interesting, in my opinion. Thanks though for giving it a go!
Honestly if the game wanted to have a priest puzzle it should have been added before saying goodbye to the sister so it would've made more sense. But that's my option.
0:58 that text on my phone … has to be some of the smallest and most compact text I have seen in quite some time 😂 lol obviously not meant for phone viewing… but the game looks cool so far!
Some really interesting ideas, visuals and lore but not very well executed unfortunately. Still it's always fun to see folklore horror from other countries, and China has a lot of interesting legends and myths. It definitely needed a lot more time in development.

Haha that’s how I discovered him too! But I have to immediately look for the Chinese dub version T^T

I prefer it when he plays Asian horror games! They are much scarier and more interesting imo.

More cultural horror games like this please! It's really interesting to explore and learn about different world cultures' horror mythos
An hour+ long video with Chiness horror themes/elements? What a wonderful day!
"I have one Buddha, yes. But what about second Buddha?" made me giggle. Love your references! I always catch the it's always sunny quotes too, love it! 😂
The song for start page of this game is so chill and romantic sounding compared to the visuals
Thank you for another excellent playthrough, and congrats on 142k!!!
Very entertaining. Thank you for playing, CJU!
chinese horror games and asian games in general are my top tier favorites!
The "guys could you shut the fuck up please" line absolutely killed me CJ thank you for that
The story had a Fatal Frame Lite feel to it. Interesting. Wonder how much is based in actual folklore, and how much embellishment was involved.

Just finished the poop killer series.. another 1h and 30m to watch! Keep em coming love your horror gameplays.
1+ hr of Chris is my treat. Hopefully you'll play the Alan Wake II DLCs when you get the chance.
Hi cju thank you for playing 😊
As always, ending my day with a CJU video is the HIGHLIGHT of my Tuesday !
9:41 Well, my apologies for looking like that when I haven't had my morning coffee!
I've never been this early before!!
And another hour+ video?? You're really treating us!
CJU playing chinese gameplay 1+ long. Yes this is such a good day!
Thanks Chris! This looks like a lot of fun! 💗👍🏼
28:05 made me laugh. CJU has such an air of an uncle just kind of quietly dealing with a very young nephew who's just learned what jokes are, but not what actually makes them funny
Love the content as always! (Wasn't sure if your intention or not but "Enshrouded" on the game list is wrong the one listed is the survival game one).
Hi cju I'm glad that you posted this game It seems really cool I'm going to try it out and I hope you're having a great day Cju and stay blessed 🙌🏾
It's all about the secrets of a malevolent priest and a cursed village... Isn't it always 🤔😂
47:32 "either that seat really stinks or that's where I'm meant to be". 😅😂
Just been watching 'SWOL plays' playing renovator, CJU has just appeared as an Easter egg, SWOL gave CJU a shout out!
Shame the easter egg wasn't in the bathroom.
Shoutout to SWOL too. He's a great guy!
Lookin good Chris!
Thanks for sharing! ❤
This game’s sound design is horrifying. Several times I were close to quitting the vid bc it was driving me mad
"Let me be the one to unravel your grievances" sounds like a line from a fighting game LMAO
CJ’s almost at 150K subs! 😃
This game has a lot of ideas and like the cultural context - the character is clearly very comfortable with/accepting of the lore's language which makes its existence very natural. Unfortunately the game's overall connective tissue is rather missing, as I like the potential here.

This game was all over the place but it was an okay game.
River God was often disjointed with some teeth-gritting audio, and it was a bit of a study in when enough is enough. Also, what's the Mandarin idiom for "janky"? 😊 But, all in all, it was a decent folk-horror game, imo, made much more palatable by CJU's commentary.
Commenting before I finish but it looks so good and im gonna be sad if it falls short. Edit: it fell short
I laughed at the doggy door right at the start. Darmine Doggy Door.
Jank personified. As always, I enjoyed the playthrough.
7:19 lol I love how the drawer sounded just like the cabinet being opened when you opened it… but it sounded like a room door closing when you closed it 😊
The box isn't a spawn, it's the unity default cube lol. Somehow worse than just a "spawn cube" 😂
Japanese horror games have been quiet lately; Chinese horror games are coming together.
Ooh what good ones have you come across?
Niice i really are a horrorfan and Ur work is like candy for me
Way too much in way too less time
Btw i need more
Haha I love this progression of statements
For a moment I thought this was the doll Observation Duty like game that recently came out...... you actually may enjoy it! It's called: "Doll Impostor".

Something you never say in a horror movie or a horror game it is finally over the protagonist said it that is like the equivalent of saying I'll be right back in a horror movie or game it never goes well
I really like the visuals, nice use of lighting and shadows.
No fuse boxes in ancient china? We had mannequins and modern combination locks.
Games like this really make me glad for let's players. Can never imagine making through this game, especially with how annoying the sound and music is. The discordant section around the music room is even worse because it just keeps going on and on and on. Kudos to CJU for actually making it through with only one snap at the game to quiet down.
I understand the instrumentation was traditional Chinese. The style of music and color choices gave this a Dario Argento feel
"Enshrouded By The Current, Water Flowing Underground!" - Talking Heads, probably
For what I've watched so far, Chinese horror games are the weirdest ones, of the vast family of Asian horror
Don't think I'll buy this game, but man do I want this soundtrack!
This was interesting for sure
Sacrificing young girls just never seems to work out does it? Just turns out to be a jerk priest trying to blame someone else for all their problems. I think with a little more time in the oven this could have been a great game. As it is, 7/10. Thanks for sticking through this one Chris.

That music when you were breaking the chains with sword sounded a bit like the Shadow Warrior theme. 😄
Let’s gooo!!!
I'm with you here, some parts were pretty boring, some was really good and tense. I also think that sometimes there was a lack of..... plot. I mean I thought a few times that we really don't see a point where to go or why and so the plot was kinda rushed on the player.

the stoooooorage key!😄
Sound and voice actors 🤌. Rest of the game 🫳
This reminds me of Fatal Frame 2 a lot.
Also the music is pretty good actually! Despite the game being janky it's got a banger soundtrack
It's no Poop Killer but that's a good thing (In truth that video made me laugh but you get what I mean).
I enjoyed it ❤ culture games
Despite the jankiness of the game I rather enjoyed it.
Love the graphics ; very intriguing game . But yes , why are there always mannequins? I have always maintained that you are the best horror game companion ; thanks again Chris , for your bravery and hilarious style !
Did the audio get muffled for anyone else from 16:05 - 16:50?
@@Gaaraloverr1 yes, it did for me too.
49:16 YOU DIDN'T WASH YOUR HANDS!
*piano sting*
*EVERY THING GOES TO HELL!*
Chris, did ya know that there's a picture of your face with your channel name underneath it in the attic of the game The renovator origins 😆😆❤
The part with the sword and the chains was super cool, but a shame it took until the last 20 minutes for the game to get interesting, in my opinion. Thanks though for giving it a go!
I watched it on my cellphone, the writing in this game is very small. I could barely read it.
30:52 LMAO is this Ymir Fritz? 😂
Honestly if the game wanted to have a priest puzzle it should have been added before saying goodbye to the sister so it would've made more sense. But that's my option.
It's not bad. It could use some work. Some sections seem a bit confusing, and the voice acting seems kind of emotionless. But it was fun to watch. 🙂👍
If you like to get enshrouded by the current like and comment😂😂😂
Gosh! It´s corpse oil, of corpse it is. - I really waited for him to say that. :(
Hi Chris 👋👋❤❤❤
Bonsoir 🌇 🐠💃🪩🕺🐠
Corps oil is good for the hairs 😊
brotha i just saw it in the new games queue in steam. is it good? shall i get it?
Asian interpretations of horror are always interesting although this one is kind of discombobulated.
not sure that the box at the start is where the player starts from? it possible but that just odd box lol
Game has fatal frame feel to it
Hey CJ do you ever feel cursed?
Ten-Oil-Man 😂
Have you ever played Fatal Frame? I feel like you might like the series.
Amusing to watch, even if it was janky.
Good game but they should just remove 90% of those cheap jumpscares lol.
can you save the game?
i really keep my hopes low playing Chinese games since they have to always censor it..
On the whole, I think I prefer Japanese games.
I'm only half way through this right now, but this game definitely seems like a terrible indie horror game. Right?
💜
❤❤
😊😊🏆🏆🏆
