Inside the Lit & Phil Society, Newcastle's Independent Library

Established in 1825, the Lit & Phil is situated on Westgate Road in Newcastle City Centre and is open for anyone to look inside.
Home to a collection of more than 170,000 books, it is the largest independent library in the UK outside of London.
Guided tours are available and regular events make use of the space, from writing groups to live concerts and lectures.
