    Good soil means everything for a gardener looking to raise healthy, happy plants. While there are certainly countless chemicals and egg expensive solutions, there are actually many simple things you can do to boost nutrients and maintain a successful garden.
    Curious to learn more? In this video I’ll show you 6 ways to make any type of soil enrich with nutrients naturally after which you’ll never feel the need to buy those expensive chemical fertilizers.
    1. Raw Egg
    The solution for a thriving plant may be as simple as planting a raw egg. As you prepare your pots with soil, simply include a single raw egg at the bottom. Over time, the egg will decompose and works as a natural fertilizer for the seedlings.
    You can also use crushed eggshells which work just as good as whole egg.
    Eggshell has calcium, nitrogen and phosphoric acid which make them an ideal choice for garden use.
    So next time you boil or fry an egg don’t throw away the egg shell but instead
    Recycle them to grow seedlings. When the seedling is ready to be planted outside, place the shell and seedling directly in the ground. The eggshell will decompose over time and help fertilize the soil.
    2. Banana Skins
    Bananas contain a number of nutrients including potassium, phosphate, sulfur, calcium, magnesium and sodium. All of these things can help promote healthy growing for plants. best way to effectively use banana peels is to cut them up into small pieces so that they can decompose faster. This will result in organic matter that helps establish rich soil
    3. Ash
    If you have a fireplace, you'll love this free method for raising pH levels.
    you simply scatter the ash around the soil as a way to lower acidic levels. This will make it easier to grow a fresh crop.
    4. Leaves
    Allowing leaves to rot over a garden during winter will provide nutrients for the soil to prepare it for the next growing season. The leaves work to pull the organic matter back down into the soil making it dark and rich.
    5. Epsom Salt
    Epsom salts are especially good for soil. Low pH levels are usually an indication of a magnesium imbalance. To boost pH levels in the soil, dilute Epsom salt with water and spray on the plants. The vegetation will soak up the welcomed nutrients.
    6.Use Compost Regularly
    While using bits and pieces of natural matter can be helpful, combining many pieces of compost will only go one step further toward enriching your soil.
    There are a number of benefits of using natural compost regularly
    it works to improve the soil structure while using less water and warding off common plant diseases. The soil benefits from added layers of nutrients, especially before a growing season.

    Put the egg shells into your outdoor bbq . Roast for a while till they turn brown ,not black . Then grind up into a powder. Put some into the hole as you plant your tomatoes. The reason you bake the egg shells is that the calcium in the egg shell will break down much quicker and be usable by the plant . Egg shells raw take years to release that calcium . Prevents blossom end rot in tomatoes . You do it outside as baking egg shells in your oven really stinks. Don't want to bother with egg shells buy a pack of tums. Grind up into powder .Same thing put in hole as you plant tomatoes . Tums have a lot of calcium.

      Tum's are a stomach anti acid you take for an upset stomach .They are loaded with potassium. Lack of potassium is a big reason tomato plants get blossom end rot. Also plant your tomatoes deep ,the stems will form more roots to feed the plant .Then cut off the bottom leaves that make soil contact. Again to prevent diseases like blossom end rot.

    These are great tips for vinegar and eggs plus their shells. I just started a couple years ago adding non-meat or dairy table scraps (mostly veggie matter) to my nice mulched old leavers. It’s awesome that with very little care, I’ll have the best potting soil/mulch for my flowers and veggies. Really enjoyed your videos🤗🌻

    Wonderful! We used to compost, garden, and other relatives were farmers. For those that want to learn what "green thumb" means, your advice is a good kick-starter to healthy soil nutrients, subsistence crops, flower garden, herbs, and some wild grasses (some often called weeds). Organic planting also encourages positive "bug-life", growing cycles, pollination, fertilization, and produce. The profit is recyclable, renewable, and reusable items; this can work well with young people that can learn the value of what our earth will do when we properly engage, respect, appreciate, and understand it... I can attest to the banana peel suggestion. I threw away some banana peels in the same bin as some tangerine seeds and forgot to empty the trash in my room for a while and when I got around to it I found that ALL the tangerine seeds had sprouted among my nasty decomposed banana peels. It was disgusting but super awesome!

    The rusted garden did this, and i can testify that it does indeed boost growth by a significant amount. But instead of using it for seedlings, you have to pre bury 1 whole smashed egg and 1 whole cut banana deep enough and have it sit there for a decent amount of time. another thing to do is to add coffee grounds right over the top and/or in the compost hole, so that you attract worms that will help breakdown the egg and banana faster.
    Seeds have much of the nutrients necessary already to grow into a smallish plant, so the fertilizer isn't needed immediately. Just let the seed sprout in potting soil and when its big enough to transplant it into the main garden, bury another egg and banana in the same spot where you buried it last time. Plant the seedling nearish to the fertilizer hole, and add some epsom salt on the surface to help with transplant shock. Water well, and let it sit (also add more coffee grounds). When the plants start flowering, add another egg and banana into the compost hole and bury it again and that should be most of the nutrients the plant needs for a whole season (Coupled with weekly fertilization of a 1-1-1 water soluble mixture).
    I can say with confidence, that the banana breaks down fast with the worms attracted to the area, and the only leftovers i can see are bits of egg shells from the smashed egg. Very fertile soil amended with homemade compost, and a core of straw buried in the middle to soak up excess moisture each watering cycle.

    • @44wizbang
      @44wizbang 6 років тому +7

      stephencarlsbad …..everything you introduce into the soil will break down, not just eggs !!! Every time a wild animal, snake, frog, or mouse dies a natural death it rots and breaks down in the soil. Animal feces & urine are constantly breaking down in the soil as are dead earth worms, so, eggs are no more threat of attracting dangerous pathogens than anything else. In fact they are very beneficial to the soil. Stop raising false alarms when they are not justified..

    I always liked to bury an egg with my seedlings and also always threw the banana peels into the garden. I never realized cutting them up would help. As most gardners know who are serious about growing nice gardens you need to know what your soil may need and so when starting a new garden plot a soil sample test is good. I tried to always improve the soil and if consistent you can. I wish I was able to still live in the country and work in the garden but with my health I can no longer do that. Also if you cut banana peels into small pieces and bake them until dry you can store them too. I've done this lots of times.

    I can see many good reasons for using the shells as a soil enricher. But a whole egg is not only unnecessarily wasteful, but the smell of a rotting egg in the garden and close to where people may be sitting on the deck or the porch does not sound very practical or inviting. I will stick with using just the shells thank you.

    I dry egg shells, run them through my Ninja single serve smoothie maker creating a fine dust, ad that to my dehydrated banana peels that also had a trip thru the Ninja, save the powders until spring add to Epsom salts and then use my dust mix in soil as needed. Coffee grinders work good and the left over dust is good for coffee and you.

    • @joelhenderson3723
      @joelhenderson3723 7 років тому +21

      No, it's definitely called clickbait. A misleading title that has little or no relevance to the content behind the link, designed to make you think you will find something other than what you do. There is nothing remotely surprising about the fact that an egg decomposes over time, and it generally takes more than "a few days." Most of the video is not about that anyway. Check, check, and check. Clickbait.

    • @mosslimbayter277
      @mosslimbayter277 6 років тому +2

      Eggshells are mostly calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate absorbs and neutralizes acid. Eggshells contain phosphorus but they don't contain phosphoric acid.
      The only web resources that claim eggshells have phosphoric acid are a tiny handful of gardeners like preparednessmama and some other unscientific gardener on pintarest.
      Google is only your friend if you ignore unscientific and quackery websites.

      Terrible Idea! Rotting eggs are a breeding ground for deadly pathogens like salmonella and others. Want to innoculate your tomatoes or squash? Just water your plants one day. Water that splashes from the soil onto your veges will then contain dangerous pathogens.

      There are so many plants on which these tips would backfire causing worse results. Look in your phone book for your county's Cooperative Extension Service, a funny name for garden help but they re in your own location growing gardens same as you. They have handouts to follow and people to ask, maybe even some Master Gardeners who can help.. If here's a farmer's market where you are, those people are great too. Good luck. Your local conditions will make or break it for you, so follow the old landscaper's saying 'Don't Fight the Site' - obey what your own garden site needs. Ask me about the seven deadly sins of gardening.
