  • Hi peeps, in this episode of wheel hobbies I show and explain how to setup up the timing chains on the saab 2.0 and 2.3 engines whether it be a N/A or a turbo, please note that I have done another little video that explains little bits that I forgot to mention in this video, please check out this video and I also explain common reasons to why they lock up when timing the engines up,

Thanks for your vid and explanation! I just replaced the cylinder head gasket and I was getting really frustrated that I didn’t get the camshaft TDC marks lined up exactly to the millimeter. Glad to see that’s normal! For all of those who use an old chain without the yellow links: the distance between the sprocket marks should be 7,5 chain links

appreciate that you’re the only one who showed the timing chain install while the block is mounted on a stand with head and pan in place.

Always keep chains and timing gears together. Once they are slightly used they cannot be mixed. So use all new parts or keep them together. At least, that's what I would recommend.

So even if I accidentally drop the chain after taking the sprockets off, the guide will keep it in timing on the crankshaft?

Nice Video. I just did a roll in timing chain and as i almost finished the job i measured the tensioner and it's still extended to 20mm. Should i take the timing cover off and see if it needs guides? Engine is still in the car and i dont want to pull it. Also the Oil pan is off as well as i did rod and main bearings. Throw me a bone here. Thnx

Just an idea but before I buy a chain at 18 years old and 125k can it be that the tensioners snap? The top valve guide can go hard, does that make the same sound?

Does it matter where those yellow markers are if you have timed up the bottom and top end?
