TRANSCRIPT:
Hi. I'm Denise. Thank you for watching my
video. Today I'm going to talk about how
to pronounce the words been, bin, bean,
and being. These words are very similar
and some English learners do have
trouble distinguishing between them, and
they have questions about the
pronunciation. So that's what I will talk
about today. I'll talk about how to
pronounce these words and then I will
also give you some sentences to practice
with me, okay. Please remember to like
this video and to subscribe to my
channel. And please consider making a
donation. If you do want to make a
donation, there's a link in the
description box. And if you don't, that's
okay, too.
All right. Please continue watching and I
hope that I can teach you something in
this video. Okay. So these words are very
similar. You can see they all start with
the letter B and the sound /b/. So the
sound /b/ in each of these is the same.
And, by the way, if you want detailed
explanations about about the sound /b/
or any of these other sounds that I'll
be talking about, please look at my other
videos. I have a lot of videos, and I go
into a lot of detail about how to make
each of these sounds, and I go Into
detail about the differences between
these sounds. In this video I will not be
going into detail like that, so if you
want some detail, please look at my other
videos, okay. But these words all begin
with the sound /b/. If we look at the
first three, they end in the letter N. N N N.
And the sound is the same in all of
those. It's the sound for N. It's /n/ /n/. This
one has the letter N in it, but it does
not make the same sound. It does not make
the /n/ sound. Instead, it makes the /ŋ/ sound.
Those might sound the same to you in
this video. I don't know. But they are
actually different.
They're both nasal sounds, so we're
letting air out through our nose. But the
difference is in the tongue position.
This one puts the front of the tongue on
the ridge behind my upper teeth, /n/ /n/. And
I'm pressing my tongue against there. This
one raises the back of the tongue and
presses against the top of my mouth, okay.
So, these two are different in the tongue
position. Again, if you want details
please see my other videos, okay. But, so
that's different. These three all have
the same /n/ sound. That's the one where
I put the front of my tongue up. This one
does not, okay.
So I'm going to leave that one off
for the moment, and I'm going to talk
about these three right now, okay. First
of all, this one this is the past
participle of the verb be. Okay, that's
the verb be, to be. This is the past
participle.
This word is a container, bin. And this
word is a kind of food, okay. When we look
at these, first of all, this one has two
pronunciations in American English. It
can be /bɪn/ or /bɛn/. Now these are very
similar, of course, but I hope you see
that the vowel sound is different. This
is /ɪ/ and this is /ɛ/. /bɪn/ /bɛn/ /bɪn/ /bɛn/. Both
pronunciations are used, and I even use
both. I don't always use one or always
use the other. I use both pronunciations
at different times and other people
do too, okay. This word, well, let me go to
some rhyming words.
Okay, so the first pronunciation is /bɪn/.
It sounds like the word, the last two
sounds are like the word tin
and the word pin.
So these, if I'm using this pronunciation

Good morning, teacher. As your loyal fan, you haven't updated the course for some time. How is your life recently? Every day I review the notes I made in your class, I often think of your smile and gentle mantra "Okey". As the first teacher of American language learning in my life, I have been worried about you. I hope you can have a good rest, good health and wish you all the best.
Hi. Thank you so much for your message and your concern. I have had a sick family member and have been busy helping. I'm sorry I have not updated for a long time. It might be another month before I can update. I'm sorry! Thank you for watching my videos. I hope they help you!
