Five years later, I think back to this video as the one that changed the game for me. Your perspective and method not only changed my own foundation routine but it helped improve my confidence and self-esteem which did not involve having to HIDE behind makeup. I rewatch this video every now and then, especially when I'm having a bad "skin season" --- just to remind myself what to do and not to do. You are the voice of reason inside my head. Thank you!
I like how she said that in the areas where we don't have spots are actually perfect, so that we should try to show off those parts. I would've just smeared foundation all over my face!
This is how acne coverage foundation routines should be done; it's so natural looking and imperceptible on the model's face. Too many beauty gurus (even those without acne) suggest heavy coverage all over, and it ends up looking like a caked on mask. Well done, Lisa!
I never thought a makeup tutorial would make me tear up, lol, but having adult acne and dark spots from past breakouts, this was very touching. I realize this video is old now, and I have watched it probably 5 times now. Just wanted to thank you for making this video and sharing your philosophy. Much love.
It is so nice to see an actual Professional makeup artist that has legit knowledge when it comes to skin and applying makeup!!! Im so tired of these caked up contoured instagram "makeup artists".... Keep up with the good work!
I honestly don't understand why this doesn't have more views then it already does. She doesn't use brand products like other "beauty gurus" just because they have a certain name. She uses products which actually works. This is absolutely perfect.
Not sure why I'm crying but the way you view blemished skin and how you like putting makeup on it is truly life-changing. I find it really hard on my part to always do a heavy coverage routine esp since I go to class every day. I suffer from countless criticisms because my blemishes still show even w/ makeup but I find the staring even more hurtful. So glad I found this video, I really learned a lot and understood my skin even better. Thank you for being an inspiration to many!
Full coverage but still looks light as air, almost as if a breeze of desert dust gently blew across her face. Absolutely brilliant technique. A lot of love went into this illusion. Look at Lisa's hands working, it's magical.
Wow this tutorial makes me feel like such a dummie! When I get spots because of my period I slather my face with BB cream or foundation like I'm trying to paint a wall. It also happens if I'm going to an important event. And I always treat my face rather harshly when using sponges or brushes lol, it's like a have a war with my face when using makeup; Lisa Eldridge treats skin with such delicate touch in all of her tutorials I feel ashamed of myself haha
Haha same here, but sometimes less is more its just about keeping the good skin natural and adding more coverage where you need to, ive been doing my makeup years I have similar skin to this lady hormonal spots and noticed doing my makeup with less loaded product helps just add more where you need it ☺
I always get compliments on how high my cheekbones are, or how my skin always looks like it's glowing and dewy, even with all my acne and scarring. And I sometimes forget they're there at all. So, to hear Lisa say that not all of the skin is bad, and people won't notice the bad if you bring out the good makes me feel 10 times better.
I use very little product actually.... very thin layer of foundation well blended and tiny amount of concentrated coverage on the blemishes. Thin layers, well blended and applied with a light touch x
Its so refreshing to hear a professional makeup artist talk about NOT blanketing the skin in foundation and powder. I am very much into natural looking skin and every time I tried to do the "works" I felt I looked fake. This video has pretty much been my makeup philosophy for a very long time and I'm happy to hear others share my views on the skin!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us💄💌
Thank so much for this video! I'm 21, I have acne and sometimes I really hate my skin. I literally torture it with different treatment products, I put so much make up on it every day...Today, after watching your video, I saw a different skin in the mirror: young, with a natural glow, so beautiful...I usually concentrate on blemishes and now I see how wrong it is. Thank you so much, your makeup philosophy really helped me, it helped me even more than the part of the video with the makeup itself!
I'm so sick of having acne. I've had since I was 12. I'm 20 now. I've tried everything. And all the different kinds of make-up too. I'm sick of having to hide my skin, I want to let it breath and be natural But I just can't, it's too embarrassing.
You have to go the dermatologist. The over the counter products, many are waste of money. If you get prescribed contraceptives, it helps to control it. When you stop, it comes back with a vengeance. This is only from what I have experienced personally.
A decade after you made this video, I am using this technique. I had forgotten about it, and recently got a bad adult acne breakout. Yesterday I looked awful piling thick concealer over the whole bottom half of my face. Today, my skin looks so much more flawless by using this minimalistic technique. Thank you so much for this video!
This video is why you're my absolute favourite makeup artist. You approach the topic with warmth, sensitivity, and expertise, and your instructions are very clear and easy to follow I like that you describe the properties of the products you use, so the viewer is able to find a product with similar properties that they might already own
I struggle with acne even as an adult in my early 20's because of some hormonal shenanigans (most likely some menstrual condition, possibly endometriosis as my sister has it). I really appreciate that your video isn't aimed solely at teenagers
wow, I really like this, I mean she didn't put a lot of makeup on the models face and she still have a beautiful result, very natural, more smooth and less prejudicial for the skin.
It's a shame that all my spots are on my cheeks, the area that you like to keep as natural as possible. And it's not always spots, but my skin is just always red in that area. I just don't wear foundation or any other make-up. It takes too much time and when I do it I feel that it is so obvious that I'm wearing make-up because I'm not good enough at applying it. Also I worry about how it looks every second of the day and I don't think that's worth it. I just go outside without make-up and people will have to accept me as I am, if they can't do that, that's their problem, not mine... That may sound rude, but that's not how I meant it :)
You're so brave :). I definitely have many pimples and blackheads because of my oily skin and the weather here in Malaysia and I always care of what people think of me :(
It's not rude! It's the truth, if people have a problem with that then like you said it's their problem. I have acne too and honestly I already worry about my acne and how it looks; I don't need to be worrying about what other people think about it too!
Please, never stop doing videos like this and others on your channel, it's so emotional how you can literally see in the comment section that you are really helping people.👍🏻 I hope you know how many people outside need you, your advices, your videos and your calmness.. let's hope for more years, in which Lisa is going to change and help us! We love you Lisa☝🏻
that is amazing, can't stop watching your videos, I learn so much, very professional, to the point, always to the highest level, you're a real makeup guru, and such elegant and chic woman :)
Lisa you are so informative yet understanding . The thing that I love about you is that you don't just do makeup you live it through and through and that's why it's been 2 years now and I am still a subscriber. Always coming back when I need to learn something new. You explain things so well . You talk about makeup as if it has life too and you always remind me that makeup is truly an art . I am very proud of you .
Its 2020 and I still come back to this video when acne flares up and I feel like I’m gonna lose it! Thank you, Lisa, you are the definition of a Godsend 🌟
It's been years since you made this video, Lisa, and I'm so grateful because you released it when I was in my late teens dealing with acne. Now I'm in my mid twenties however, and I'm dealing with the scarring. My scars are not just red and on the surface, but they're more of the 'pitted' scars that, no matter how much concealing I do, light betrays me and shows the texture of my skin. Mine aren't quite severe, but they're visible enough that I'm self-conscious. I'm waiting for the day when you make a video for us girls dealing with scars! Thank you, xx.
This is a light yet flawless look. The before and after is amazing. Love how the dermablend completely smoothed everything out and blended into her already good skin. This is going in my playlist
I've always been kind of self-conscious of my face, because my nose leans more towards my left eye, and my left eyebrow is a bit higher than my right... But I noticed for some reason that this model is similar (her brows and her ears are what I noticed) and I find her absolutely beautiful! I love how the women whose makeup you do are not always a "conventional" sort of beautiful. Thank you Lisa. It makes me feel more confident about myself.
I see a lot of comments asking about drugstore dupes. Using Lisa's gentle techniques (like feathering the product), try the drugstore buys below: Primer: Rimmel 2-in-1 Fix & Perfect Foundation: L'Oreal Tru Match Liquid Foundation (mix it with a bit of moisturizer on the back of your hand and apply with either a brush, sponge, or fingers). Under Eye Concealer: Maybelline Dream Lumi Highlighting Concealer Setting Powder: Revlon Naked Pressed Powder Foundation
Lisa, you always give women the feeling of being ok the way they are. You help us feeling better, not only with your knowledge about make up but also with your words. I really love your approach to beauty and your respect for all women, no matter how young or old or which problems we have.
when I watched this for the first time when it first came out, I didn't know it would have such a profound impact on my life it truly, truly did change my life throughout my teens until this day Thank you so much
I love this so much, thank you! You can really tell you know what you're doing. I'd much rather listen to your professional advice than that of those "self-taught beaty gurus".
Your approach toward/ philosophy on covering blemishes was very enlightening and affirming. Also, it was really helpful to me to see products with good coverage that blend well with the skin, good brushes to apply them, and how to get them to blend in well. Great video. Thanks very much for posting!
As someone who has battled acne all my life and still do, the incredible job you did here with SUCH a light touch and SUCH a small amount of product is literally mind-blowing. Wow. 😍
Wow. I have been dealing with acne for the last 10 years. Your philosophy on how to deal with spots by letting the smooth areas shine through is so refreshing. Thank you! Lots of love from Canada xox
This is by far my favorite acne coverage video. She focuses on the girl's natural beauty and tries to not cover everything. Which is amazing. That girl is so pretty too😊
Just found this video and did this today, took my time (took me an hour), just a light layer of foundation and then used concealer for spots and redness, used brushes instead of a sponge for the first time, was very gentle with my skin lightly putting on the products, and wow. I almost cried, but kept the tears in the keep for ruining all my work lol. This really worked, and changed how I felt about foundation today. Thank you , Lisa. Xo
I love this, but I am only a teen and do not have the money to be buying high end makeup.. could you possibly do a drugstore version foundation routine for acne/uneven skin? I'd appreciate it so much & it would be useful for many people out there.
Moica Silva Go check out her blog lisaeldridgemakeup.com She has a lot of information on what drugstore/high end products are similar, dupes etc etc. I'm sure you'll find something!
Moica Silva I would really advise that you stay with brands like La Roche-Posay if you have skin that easily breaks out. My skin has improved dramatically since changing my make-up and skincare to skin-friendly brands like this. Even some of the higher end ones like YSL have alcohol in and irritate my skin no end. It's worth the money - you can't put a price on a good complexion.
WOW, You are truly an "artist"; I can't believe my eyes this was perfectly well done! You're incredible! All these fake UA-cam MUA's don't know crap-- you slayed this so hard!
I first watched this vid when I had never dealt with acne in my life, even as a teenager. Suddenly at the age of 27 hormonal acne has come at me, but I remembered this video and knew I had Lisa in my arsenal. The vid is over 10 years old and still incredibly helpful and relevant. Thank you for the work you do!
this is mind blowing! wow ! I really like your philosophy Lisa... I wish that when I was younger I would have embraced my non-spotty parts of my skin more instead of putting a thick layer of foundation on my skin which just made it worse... I can't... wow really wow ...shows what make-up can do if you use it well
invest in a really good full coverage foundation that looks natural. for example: estee lauder double wear. the foundation should cover a good amount of your marks while still looking natural. then go in with the pin point concealing
Great tutorial and advice. I'm going to try this from now on. Unfortunately I have clusters of tiny clogged comedones that when you put on any makeup over them their texture is just accentuated. It sucks 😞
I love how respectful you are to everybody & how your appreciate any kind of beauty you can find. That's so uplifiting. Thank you, Lisa, you are a joy to watch every time. :)
I think this is perfect:) She looks beautiful! I have been looking for something to help my red oily skin that slightly suffers from acne. Since I am a guy, should I be using a couple of different products to keep a "I am not wearing make up" look or should I just put smaller amounts on? Oh, is there anything to help with my big pours?
Try using a sunscreen with a green tint for acne and then a primer with tea tree oil with pores c: and maybe just use a bb cream (at least that works for me if you want the no makeup look* and even investing in a brush will really improve the way it looks
I know this is a very late comment but let me give you a couple of recommendations. you can use loreal anti redness color correcting primer it's a green primer and it will help counter your redness and oily skin or you can also use Revlon anti redness color correcting primer. both of them are amazing to counter oily skin with redness
This is the best tutorial I’ve ever seen not just for acne but also for applying foundation & concealer. I love the philosophy of letting your natural beauty shine through. I’ve always liked using foundation with light coverage. I also love how down to earth she is. Thank you!
This such a wonderful approach towards covering acne! It is so easy to forget about your face as a whole and just see your skin as a canvas for spots. Recently I started only using foundation where I have redness or scarring and it has made such a difference! You are so right though Lisa, it takes twice as long to do but this method is worth it! It feels really rewarding to use less foundation when you have acne. Using it all over my face made made me feel as though I had more to hide which was quite unhelpful.
I'm a teenager with average acne, and I've always run into the same problem - whenever I put foundation on, it catches in the dry spots of the acne and just makes everything look spotty and downright gross. How do I combat this?
Sarah Hocutt Moisturize well! Use a serum and a facial lotion before applying foundation. Before any product goes on, hold a cold damp cloth on your face after cleansing. This will tighten pores and reduce redness.
I like this. Very pretty. Similar to how I've started doing my own makeup on an everyday basis over the past year. I have combination skin and suffer from hormonal breakouts (and have had severe acne in the past) and I used to just slather on a thick layer of foundation all over. Nowadays, I use CC cream, a little concealer, and translucent powder most days. If my skin's imperfections show through a little bit, it's okay. It doesn't cause me anxiety any more. Nobody is perfect. :-)
I really needed to watch this today; going through a bad hormonal breakout and your lovely, kind approach is worlds away from the negative comments I keep receiving. Thank you!
haha definitely, and i'm trying my best, but I say i'd like her to do it for me just to see the results ;) ~ I don't plan on wearing full on make up routinely, for now at least~
All the products are quite expensive, it would be good to see a tutorial with products that typical teenagers can afford? Also, it seems a rather time consuming process, I don't think we can do this every day :(. Saying that, this was fascinating to watch, as someone who has never been taught any of this and could truly have benefitted from this help as a teen.
beckie :) i know qiute a few other girls who do similar things with much cheaper products and they are stunning. honestly i have given up on covering up but i have found that if i use a dark red lipstick i feel 100 times more confident because it kind of takes the attention away from the redness on my cheeks. As a sidenote i love your channel you are a truely wonderful inspirational person who isnt fake like so many other youtubers, if something uspets you, you will come on camera and actually express your sadness or aggravation. I suffer from quite minor Trich (never have bald patches but i have some very uneven layers) xxxxxxx (subscriber to you for 3 years now)
its on offer now on boots so its 12 pounds atm but 16 pounds is still a lot cheaper than other branded foundations and this covers a lot of imperfections ^_^
I'm not really sure how this could possibly be less time-consuming. The only other alternative to spot concealing would be covering the entire face in a full coverage foundation, and Lisa addressed why she didn't think that was a good idea in the intro.
The Body Shop provides quite a variety of products targeting different skin problems, and their makeup products are mainly made up of natural products, maybe you could give it a try :) p.s. for everyday skincare routine for acne prone skin, tea tree oil works wonder :D
Hi Beckie, I love both of your channels! My advice is: save up and invest in Vichy dermablend. I have bought it recently after months of wondering if I should. And Yeah, it's £29, but my usual foundation (Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation, also recommend it) is £9.99. However it's only 30ml, which lasted a while, but Vichy is 100ml! and the amount you need in one go because of it's high coverage makes it even more worth it. So I'd say, you're more than tripling the amount of time it'll take to use it up and in fact spend less money as a result. And it's bloody fantastic, and you probably don't even need a concealer tbh, just pat some extra dermablend where you need it. I'd also recommend a sponge instead of a brush or your hands to apply it with (any make up sponge will do, but I recommend the real techniques one if you have some money to spare), just make sure to clean it regularly, especially if you have problem skin. You don't want to spread acne. If you do still want concealer COLLECTION do a fantastic one which is stupidly cheap (like £2???), I think it's called lasting perfection concealer. Most importantly, spend more money on skincare less on make up. (especially cleansers, I recommend cleansing balms like the one from botanics or the body shop OR a cleansing oil, OR EVEN BETTER: BOTH.)
Madeline had almost perfect skin she has a few pimples on her chin and the rest of her skin is perfect... would you mind doing a tutorial for people who have redness, marks and flakey/combination skin all over their face?
Five years later, I think back to this video as the one that changed the game for me. Usually I would say hurry up and get to the point but I love this lady's voice is so relaxing I can sit and listen to her for days
SO do I, I love her
Her voice is really soothing
+Lillie LU When She even makes the word "rosacea" sound soothing 0:15
yea I know right!!
It's my therapy, and I get to sit on MY couch! 😊
you could SO TELL that she actually wants to help people
This is how acne coverage foundation routines should be done; it's so natural looking and imperceptible on the model's face. Too many beauty gurus (even those without acne) suggest heavy coverage all over, and it ends up looking like a caked on mask. Well done, Lisa!

It is so nice to see an actual

I honestly don't understand why this doesn't have more views then it already does. She doesn't use brand products like other "beauty gurus" just because they have a certain name. She uses products which actually works. This is absolutely perfect.
This is what I call "clean makeup" 👌
7 yrs later and this is literally a trend called clean girl makeup
its like magic when she uses the concealer
She made her look like she has model skin, this is the best acne coverage makeup tutorial, thank you for posting it!

I think Lisa's a wizard? Her skin looks impeccable, and she's incredibly gorgeous!
i fell asleep like 4 times. i love her voice
with other makeup artist I always think the foundation part to be boring but the way lisa applies it is just amazing to watch
I'm so sick of having acne.
I've had since I was 12. I'm 20 now. I've tried everything.
And all the different kinds of make-up too.
I'm sick of having to hide my skin, I want to let it breath and be natural
But I just can't, it's too embarrassing.
I'm 17 and have had acne since I was 11... So I'm in the same boat as you. Just now you're not alone :(
I am 36 and now i have dry skin with acne instead of oily skin with acne. Unfortunately, it is just genetics and it never completely goes away.

minirosiee I have been to every doctor and every dermatologist. The only thing I can do now is go on roaccutane. I've tried literally EVERYTHING else.
Kay Lace see ur trying harsh products, ur body needs natural, to restore it to its natural health

what i really like is that not only is lisa amazing with make up, but she also seems like such a nice, caring person.
Lisa, how do you feel about women shaving their faces for better makeup application ?
wow, I really like this, I mean she didn't put a lot of makeup on the models face and she still have a beautiful result, very natural, more smooth and less prejudicial for the skin.
I love the approach you have for acne. I think it looks so much more beautiful than a full matte face that is the thing now. Wonderful video
It's a shame that all my spots are on my cheeks, the area that you like to keep as natural as possible. And it's not always spots, but my skin is just always red in that area. I wish there was an updated version of this. I just love this
It's been years since you made this video, Lisa, and I'm so grateful because you released it when I was in my late teens dealing with acne. Would you ever try photo therapy or laser
Makeup is not going to cover texture, only color. You need to consult a dermatologist and skin resurfacing procedures to fix scarring.
you are the best Lisa, you are so passionate about what you do, it's reflected on your work. I'm inspired!
This is a light yet flawless look. The before and after is amazing. Love how the dermablend completely smoothed everything out and blended into her already good skin. This is going in my playlist

Yes! :)
Yes! :)
I've always been kind of self-conscious of my face, because my nose leans more towards my left eye, and my left eyebrow is a bit higher than my right... But I noticed for some reason that this model is similar (her brows and her ears are what I noticed) and I find her absolutely beautiful! It's all in your head I'm sure you're very beautiful .... So please love yourself ...
The skin looks so naturally flawless. Lisa has immensely shaped the way I do my makeup since when i first saw this when I was very young.
I don't even watch this for makeup anymore, I watch to listen to her cause it helps me sleep.
I see a lot of comments asking about drugstore dupes. Using Lisa's gentle techniques (like feathering the product), try the drugstore buys below:
Primer: Rimmel 2-in-1 Fix & Perfect
Foundation: L'Oreal Tru Match Liquid Foundation (mix it with a bit of moisturizer on the back of your hand and apply with either a brush, sponge, or fingers).
Under Eye Concealer: Maybelline Dream Lumi Highlighting Concealer
Setting Powder: Revlon Naked Pressed Powder Foundation
This film is what changed the way I feel about my skin and the way I look at makeup. There is something uplifting about it. Thank you, Lisa. :)
This is perfect! She looks like one of those models from a commercial where they have perfect skin and it looks like they aren't wearing any makeup.
she's so pretty
I know right?! :))
Lisa, you always give women the feeling of being ok the way they are. You help us feeling better, not only with your knowledge about make up but also with your words. I really love your approach to beauty and your respect for all women, no matter how young or old or which problems we have.
when I watched this for the first time when it first came out, I didn't know it would have such a profound impact on my life
it truly, truly did change my life throughout my teens until this day
Thank you so much
I love this so much, thank you!
Lisa the Magician
SHE HAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL EYES!
As someone who has battled acne all my life and still do, the incredible job you did here with SUCH a light touch and SUCH a small amount of product is literally mind-blowing. Wow. 😍
This is the most soothing and useful video I have ever seen
Her skin looks so flawless and she is so beautiful :) you're a genius!
That girl is so pretty too😊
Wow, this lady needs to become a narrator!
Moica Silva yesss pleaseeee you really should
Moica Silva Go check out her blog lisaeldridgemakeup.com
She has a lot of information on what drugstore/high end products are similar, dupes etc etc.
I'm glad it helped!
Lisa x
This is so natural ! Does not look like she's wearing makeup ! Absolutely stunning xxx
WOW, You are truly an "artist"; I can't believe my eyes this was perfectly well done! You're incredible! All these fake UA-cam MUA's don't know crap-- you slayed this so hard!
One of the best videos ever..changed my makeup forever!
Lisa, you brought confidence back in my life with the help of this tutorial. Thank you.
9 years later, still an icon
Lisa will forever be my favorite makeup artist, not only for her talent and knowledge, but also for her warm, beautiful, and classy personality.
this is mind blowing! wow ! I really like your philosophy Lisa... I wish that when I was younger I would have embraced my non-spotty parts of my skin more instead of putting a thick layer of foundation on my skin which just made it worse... I can't... wow really wow ...shows what make-up can do if you use it well
What if you have horrible acne scars and big pores. And oily oily sensitive acne prone skin.
Same
invest in a really good full coverage foundation that looks natural. for example: estee lauder double wear. the foundation should cover a good amount of your marks while still looking natural. then go in with the pin point concealing
Beautiful. I love how light Lisa is with her brush work, it is soothing to watch.
Great tutorial and advice. I'm going to try this from now on. Unfortunately I have clusters of tiny clogged comedones that when you put on any makeup over them their texture is just accentuated. It sucks 😞
That's amazing ! Her skin is so perfect
Lisa, you are a magician. Her skin looks flawless without looking mask-like.
it looks like she has a completely perfect skin😍😍
Best youtube makeup video EVER
Jada Snell Thank you:)
I will go look at those products next time I go make up shopping.
I know this is a very late comment but let me give you a couple of recommendations. you can use loreal anti redness color correcting primer it's a green primer and it will help counter your redness and oily skin or you can also use Revlon anti redness color correcting primer. both of them are amazing to counter oily skin with redness
this is goddamn art
This is the best tutorial I’ve ever seen not just for acne but also for applying foundation & concealer. I love the philosophy of letting your natural beauty shine through. I’ve always liked using foundation with light coverage. I also love how down to earth she is. Thank you!
Gorgeous model and such a helpful video!
Still mindblown as to how Lisa concealed the acne. Her fingertips are literally like an eraser it's so magical
Sarah Hocutt I had that problem too. What I do is exfoliate while I'm the shower, then I moisturize, then I apply a light primer, then foundation.
Thank you!
Madlen is so pretty
Madeleine
The model is so cute!!! 💗
This channel is a breath of fresh air compared to what I normally see
Who is still watching this in 2018? After all these years lisa doesnt seem to have aged at all! Love, love this video so much!!
I'd loooooove her to do my makeup ... I've never used makeup but I could definitely use some
since you havent used makeup, work on eating right and your skincare first! that might help enough to where you then dont need makeup:)
haha definitely, and i'm trying my best, but I say i'd like her to do it for me just to see the results ;) ~ I don't plan on wearing full on make up routinely, for now at least~
+yesungkpopper4ever Yesuuuuuuuuuuuuung
So hypnotised by Lisa's voice that I'm starting to read the commends in her voice in my mind!
I suffer from quite minor Trich (never have bald patches but i have some very uneven layers)
xxxxxxx
(subscriber to you for 3 years now)
its on offer now on boots so its 12 pounds atm but 16 pounds is still a lot cheaper than other branded foundations and this covers a lot of imperfections ^_^
It looks beautiful and not caked on. Her skin looks dewy and fresh and not powdery.
Her skin looks perfect. True mastery of the craft. Love it.
Madeline had almost perfect skin she has a few pimples on her chin and the rest of her skin is perfect... would you mind doing a tutorial for people who have redness, marks and flakey/combination skin all over their face?
