This is such an inspiring vlog, Jean! I am a morning person and used to enjoy waking up really early to read and get my ‘’me time” Thanks to your video now, I’ve been reminded of that time and have now decided to bring this habit back into my life for a while at least, if not permanently :)
Enjoy the choice embrace it as when you get old....sleep is hard to come by. I am old and while I love how well reading fits in with my sleeping problem. I miss the long lazy mornings in bed now...ahhh those days x
I got up at 5 for 30 yrs. I had to get to school… because I was the teacher! 😂 Retired now, but I still get up early. Good luck with your early schedule.
Perfectly timed video! I've been struggling with getting up early in the mornings lately, and I was going to start getting up by 7 tomorrow to try and do 30min - 1 hour of reading before I start my day, so this was a great motivation! 😃 About the running, there's something called "Buff", which is a tube scarf/multifonctional thing (you can turn it into a hat etc) in just a t-shirt material (but I think there's some with fleece lining, the one with fleece lining I have is from another brand). They're really, really good, and I've had mine going for a few yeas whilst power walking, running or going skiing, so I use it from september until april (Sweden can be pretty cold fairly early on...). But I'd really recommend something like that! And it means that you can also switch out the rest of your gear if you need to layer up without an issue.
Good luck on your exercise and sleep goals! When I run outside in the winter I wear a zip up jacket that has a high collar. It's definitely no fun being cold!
I’d definitley reccomend a buff for the neck when running rather than a specific top. That way you can remove it if you get too hot plus you can use it as a bandanna or a sweat band as well 🙂
There's a wonderful Tom Paxton song that Anne Hills recorded a few years ago entitled "Getting Up Early" which I can now no longer listen to without thinking of it as YOUR song!
The couch to 5k from the nhs is not available in other countries, but they also have podcasts that can be downloaded anywhere. You just have to stick with their music instead of choosing whatever you want…
For running outside, I really rate a lightweight neck warmer (buff do some really nice ones). Really good for either doubling around the neck to keep you nice and cosy, or pulling up over your mouth and nose when the air is too cold, or even wear over the forehead and ears.
I like running in the rain. But it is a good idea to have a some layering pieces to wear. All brands do high neck tops with a zipper (great when you do get a bit warm). Also a light windbreaker jacket is good for when it gets colder.
I finished the couxh to 5k from NHS back in January and loved it but since then I have been walking a 10k walk with a friend instead. I wish they would bring out an extension to run further I would love to try and get up to running 10k.
I need to start getting up earlier as well since I finished my masters I've been being a bit lazy 😅 I'm also a month post op and would love to get back to fitness but was looking for an easier way back in, so love this content ❤
This is such a great idea and I'm always tempted to try it , but I'd be worried my kids would also wake up at 5am and I'd be like 🤪 Couch to 5k also got me into running back at the start of the first lockdown and I'm still going! I'd say you can either get a snood to keep your neck warm, or I've got some tops with a high neck but a zip over the neck as well so you can unzip if you get too hot.
You can wear a scarf, rather than buy new high neck tops for running. I've been trying more early mornings too, but this weekend, I ended up having a Nana nap on the couch in the afternoon, now that makes you feel groggy, lol. Happy Reading :D
I'm sorry to hear about your dad passing in Autumn. It must be so difficult. I really struggle with my mental health with the season change as its only my second winter here in the UK. I'm in the country completely alone with no family and I get so upset at the thought of spending Christmas and the winter alone. It really gets to me. Did a video chatting about it recently as I read the new Paula Hawkins book actually.
Oh..I know how that feels. Hope you find a way to connect with your family and friends this christmas and hopefully meet some really lovely new people in the UK🖤
Once you get into the routine it will be easy, I used to get up at 4am to exercise before work. But whatever you do - don’t stop the early sessions , as once you have a few sleep ins it will be sooooo good you will never want to go back. That’s what happened to me.😢
I read Swordheart and Paladin's Grace by T. Kingfisher, which I absolutely loved, and are both fantasy romances that I think you'd enjoy (especially since I just saw you reading Bryony and Roses which I need to get to eventually now)! Girl of Bone and Ivy sounds really fun too, I'll have to check it out!!
Oh that was just a kindle add aha, they never stop trying to sell you stuff. But I have read bryony and roses and loved it so I need to try swordheart!!!
You wake up every morning hugged by oranges? Not sure why I appreciate that as much as I do. I woke up at 5:30 (something I rarely do on the weekend) and immediately saw this video. I might take up this morning idea!

Good on you. I do all my reading very late at night and cant ever seem to get up early to read

I also used to get up extra early in my school days and actually also often used that time to watch Charmed 🤣

Perfect plan.

I know the "gotta get to school because I'm the teacher" mood all too well lol. Makes me wish I'd taken more days off as a student.
The Couch to 5K is available in other countries! I live in Canada and have used it myself.
Great vlog! :) I love the cozy reading vlog vibes.
I love your vlogs because it's just like when you're hanging out with a friend in real life!
Alo Yoga does nice turtleneck/high neck tops that are pretty warm and soft 😊
I'm definitely a night owl ! I stay up far too late reading 📚

I was just popping on to recommend sporty material neckwarmers too 😁

I always wake up at 5. It's wonderful to get up early and get some reading in to start the day

I would like to get up early & get some reading done & start back exercising in the mornings especially before Nano starts

I feel the same about DNFing there's so many books to get to! Oh love a boardgame night enjoy!

Aha yes! I've never found naps refreshing - they always make me feel groggy!

I get up at 4:30 every morning to read before I start work (at 7:30). I love it.
This sounds perfect!
I wake up at 4am to read and go to the gym before work. I hate when I sleep in I feel like I've wasted a whole day.
Wow!was waiting for your video since long!great achievement though!💖
What kindle have you got Jean. Thanks for the vlog

Really enjoyed this vlog! I had similar issues with How To Kill Your Family, I thought I would love it, read it and the ending really annoyed me...

Love this video. I also wanted to ask where you got the lighthouse sweatshirt you are wearing at the start of the video ?
Ah I'm sorry I got it in a vintage shop in London and it doesn't have a label :( might be worth searching lighthouse sweater on depop.
ah! I did wonder, Thanks for replying @@JeansThoughts It's great having other Scottish people to watch :)

Ahaha that's serendipity. And the right bedlinen makes a difference ;)
But of course "oranges are not the only fruit", follow me for more literary puns 🤣🤣

Oh hey that cardigan is mine now
