Part of the reason I love watching your channel is that I don't feel any need to compare. You guys make everything so accessible and "real" for people. Thank you!

I'm following you for some months now and could listen for hours...also enjoying Jill's input from time to time:-). Very interesting and astonishing, how much you all DO, I know a lot of people who are not sick doing much less...including me...Wondering from where your energy is coming!? I am the eldest of 7, grew up in very difficult circumstances, so I was really poor as a child. What saved me was my creativity, I'm born with that, thank God. No money for books? Library... No money for holidays? The town swimming pool offered cheap prices for big families...No money for high school? Jobs, helping children with schoolwork, working in factories during the holidays... After study I worked as a jurist 36 years...then got a depression. It was so hard, even to accept this! I've always been this busy bee and now I could hardly get up in the morning, comparing myself not only with others ( right, Jill, very bad idea) but comparing me with MYSELF in former times! I've not much support around me, because everybody wants my former one back...including me. Your Videos helped me in so many ways, I especially stopped comparing myself with others, thank you from all my heart! 💝 I'm 61 now and Jill's history reminds me to so many things in my life. Can't wait for the next videos:-)... Love to you all, Monika from Germany

Monika - I also battle Depression and it's horrible.
I try to go by an old saying "Make Hay While The Sun Shines", which means I try to do as much as I can when I'm feeling good. That way, I don't beat myself up as much when it's all I can do to take a shower and get dressed.
      Best wishes to you!

Jill, thank you so much! God has been telling me to not compare & I have been trying not to, but not succeeding. I needed to hear from you that I need not compare and to change my attitude. You really spoke to my heart. Thank you for for blessing me. In a support group that I belong to one of the tools to use is, "You can't change an event, you can only change your attitude toward it." I cannot change that I spent the money that got us in debt, but I can change my attitude. To quit feeling sorry for myself and to do what I can to get out of debt. I also need to realize that God is on my side. Hugs 😘

I'm just starting to watch this series. I was a single mom in the mid 70's. I raised them alone until 1987. Two boys. I moved and started my life over with a 3year old and a 6 month old. I had very little money but I never gave up. Very little encouragement at the time. I raised 2 beautiful boys and I am so proud of them. I never took any government aid, never went begging from family. I did it on my own. Bless you for what you did. You are very lucky to be mom and daughter. You are best friends and always will be. ❣

I think "mom" made a great point when she mentioned comparison. That is an excellent point to make. I have found myself there too. I would start off watching these videos feeling fine and learning then sure enough someone would come on that had it so much more "put together" than I did and I would compare and feel bad after hours of watching the videos. Great point.

Thank you for sharing your family stories. They give me inspiration and strength just like my grandmother stories as a widow raising 4 children. She did with less so she could give them inheritance. As a divorced mom I had to learn how to live with one income and I lost my home to my ex and my mother at the same time. This is seven years ago now and each year I have gotten better and better. I learned to cook more and eat less outside. And looking forward to your book. And looking to save for a home Thank you and your daughter- you both have touch my heart especially when you talk about God and how he finds ways to be there for you. 😌 it true he always with us.

My mother-in-law (born 1878) used to say to me: even if you have nothing but boiled potatoes and a little salt,ALWAYS set a nice table with a clean tablecloth . It was one of the best advices ever, and I followed it!
I never FELT poor even when money was tight and our stuff wasvsecondhand or picked up by the dumster. Jill is right; it is not how you have it,but how you take it.

I have been trying your techniques and have cut my food budget from astronomical to about $35 a week. Part of this is my stocking up plan in which I use $10 a pay to buy things for my pantry on sale. We stopped eating out unless I have a good coupon (like a BOGO) and cooking more at home. I challenge myself daily to cook from what I have, and we ae experiencing more variety of meals than I ever thought possible. I am very proud of my pantry and Hygiene closets. Thanks for your encouragement!!

I went to Barnes & Noble today to review a few canning books that I am interested in. Once I compared the prices to online used books, I walked out with nothing. We have been doing a pantry challenge since July 28 and are doing great. I love being frugal and a DIY'er. I am much happier for it.

I’ve been there washing my dishes out in the bathtub for a year. I’ve had it real hard too and still do with my house needing a lot of work but I at least keep it as clean or cleaner than most ppl I know and I do the best i can. Even if i have to sweep the floor and mop sitting in a rolling chair sometimes. I’m disabled and I’m 34. There are healthy people I know who don’t even clean their house as much as me and take care of their belongings. Everything I do is for the Lord. Every little bit He allows me to do is for his glory and a testimony. 💜

Love your moms disclaimer at the beginning...my husband and I live in Northern Canada...we are lucky to only spend $300/month on groceries per month. A bag of grapes up here costs anywhere from $6-$10. A small container of raspberries is about $5...and most of them are smushy by the time they get up here. On the other hand, minimum wage is about $15, so it evens out.

Great info, Jill. I tend to be a concrete type of person, and often do the comparison thing about financial stuff, thinking everyone's situation must be similar to mine (or they would say so if it wasn't, right?--oh yeah, like that is going to happen!). I have found myself getting frustrated because I might not have the money to do something that another friend seems to be able to do--and then some, particularly people who work with me and I know how much money they are paid. Then I find out they have additional sources of income--like they were left a huge inheritance, a parent retired with a lump sum payment and gave them a large chunk of it to save on taxes and to help them out, have family members who help them financially and buy them many of the high ticket items. That kind of thing. It's always good to remember the point about everyone's situation being different and not to compare ... and then start feeling like a failure because I don't seem to be able to measure up.

This is a great message, I'm guilty of this. I have the same illness as Tawra and you Jill ,and I find myself constantly comparing and wondering whats wrong with me? why can't I do more. The fact is you can look ok to others but unless you see people everyday with the illness you won't get it. The crash after I work or do almost anything is so ugly and so hard. It is maddening and discouraging to compare. Thanks for the positive message. My mother says much the same as you do to me(she has something similar also I believe) Thanks for sharing your wisdom and positive message.

Tara, I love love watching your family. I subscribe to young family who lives in the UK. When your show came on today, Nikki was watching your mom was showing how to fold fitter sheets. It was then that I realized how many people your show reaches. I just had to tell you that. Have you ever told the story of how you and your husband met? That would be interesting because y'all are so uplifting and positive. I love to see you and your mom do things together. You are so fortunate to have grown up with your mom as a role model. Bonding time is bonding time. Some mums are able to do this in bigger, more modern kitchens with state of the art appliances. Either way the result is the same - you spent time together. We still use plasterboard (gyprock) in Australia. I find it cheaper to batch cook. Cook up 3kg of mince (slightly longer than cooking up 1 kg) and make it into lasange, bolognaise and cannelloni. The oven goes on once - maybe for a bit longer but a lot less than on a daily basis. The crockpot is on. I buy reusable containers from the Op shop for next to nothing - 20c. I have a thermomix (popular more in Europe, Oz and NZ) to make my own flours etc. I could make 30 meals in 8 hours (5 kids). Actually, I'm going to give it a go.

I ran out of wood and had to keep the house warm for our son who was just a toddler so I burned my husbands beloved WWF {World Wrestling Federation} magazines. I figured they were more use to me burning than sitting in a pile on the floor. Needless to say my husband was dumb founded when he got home from work! Yes I started painting wall paper before anyone else okayed doing it. I didn't care if anyone else was doing it was too much work I found out the hard way to peel off. I painted metal outside storm doors my kitchen cabinets, counter tops with just latex before it was the in thing. Fast forward 30 yrs and now they are showing every where how easy it is to do. Is frustrating because you don't know how many "handy men" mocked me and told me it couldn't be done when I did it.

I get how hard it is when you are sick, you learn how to live with it. People don't understand how hard it is to function when you are sick
    Hang in there.

I always laugh when we talk about furniture and how much people spend. Our couch is 18 yrs old. Its been threw 3 golden retrievers and the 4 of us. 2 adults and 2 children who are now adults. If its not broken, don't fix it.

I think many women would like to know what you and your mom do to have such beautiful skin. With the beauty industry raking in billions of dollars a year, it would be refreshing to learn a simple and cost effective routine for beautiful skin. Who knows ... maybe you will add home made face cream to your soap business :)

Actually Carol that is one area where I do allow myself to spend money on if I can afford it at the time. Within reason of course. I have never gone for the super high end stuff and I do buy my stuff on sale. I also use my birthday money or something like that for my products. Another thing too is I make any products I use really really stretch. For example if it says it will last 3-6 mons. mine usually lasts 1-1 1/2 yrs. How I do that and what we use is probably another whole video.

The three of you have the same illness? You don't think it could be from the way y'all lived, ate or drank the water? Honestly, not being mean. It could have been from the living conditions in that old house

    • @LivingOnADime

No it wasn't any of those things. I just had a genetic test done a few months ago and now we are pretty sure that it's a genetic condition. I am going to talk about it more in a few months as soon as I'm done with my treatment.

Also there were others that lived and worked in the house with us and they never got sick either. We have been asked that often and the CDC did check into it when we were on their study and that wasn't what caused it.

+Living On A Dime please please check my channel out. There's not much "yet", but I'm SLOWLY trying. I battle chiari malformation and it's been hard. I'm a SOAPER, crocheter, and portrait artist ( I draw portraits). There's one on my channel photo. I need subscription love lol. I've gotta build up bank so I can get my much needed brain surgery ( that's my goal).
Btw, I freaking love y'all! Jill could be my moms twin ( she's much sweeter than my mom lol).
