    Wouldn't it be fun to be able to afford to stitch all of our projects with silk? That's not asking too much, is it? LOL Thanks again for taking your time and talents to do another video for those of us who love to watch FT; even though I don't do my own videos - so glad that all of you do!!

    Hello. 4 years too late! I’ve never used silk threads but intrigued. I know it’s so much more expensive but may try it on a small pattern. The waste knot! What a brilliant idea. I’ve always just woven over at the end, not thought about it being woven over at the beginning. When you initially said knot, I was horrified😊 Thanks. I’m ready to give it a go as the sheen etc is wonderful. 🇦🇺

    Hi, Danielle! I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your tutorial videos, and how very helpful they are. Just this past week, I learned about stitching one over one from you because I was starting a project where I was doing that for the first time, and your video was immensely helpful! That’s just one example...there are many more. So, thank you 🙏 so much, you are awesome! 🤗

    Love this video. I'm stitching with silks right now and my thread kept untwisting and fraying. I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong until you suggested a new needle. Derp. Problem solved! Thank you so much for sharing your techniques, I love learning new tricks and tips!

    I have been wanting to try using a laying tool. I don’t have one and really didn’t want to buy one. So, last night I pulled out one of my double end knitting needles. Works perfect and I love how neat my stitches come out.

    OMG Is this the way we are supposed to stitch with regular floss? Your stitches are sooo perfect! Mine are all twisted!! :( Oh well, hopefully non stitchers won't notice once it's framed, and that's the only people that will be looking at it! (unless I am brave enough to post on Stitch Maynia! Thank you for showing us. :)

      You stitch however you want. There is no cross stitch police. But I do use a laying tool from time to time and it does make my stitches look neater.

    If it snags as much as cotton, what is the advantage of using silk over using cotton? Do you have any samples of stitching done one in each to show the difference, it would be very helpful. Thank you very much for this.

    • @Stitcherista
      @Stitcherista  5 років тому

      I don't have any samples. Silk has more of a sheen to it, at least in my opinion, over regular cotton floss.

    As always with your videos, learned a lot. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge. The knot trick you did, didn't get that - when you clip the knot on top and pull thread through, how does it hold and not come loose? If there's a term for that knot thing, please let me know and I will research. Yeah, I need coffee. Kathleen

    • @Stitcherista
      @Stitcherista  6 років тому

      +Kathleen Oboyle it is called a waste knot. When you clip the knot you have already stitched over the tail of it with the previous five stitches. I should have flipped over my piece to show in the video.

  • @floridagoods

    Thanks for doing this video, I bought a kit from China that came with silk threads, I was not prepared for the difference in dealing with the thread. You do have to have a laying tool, which I have a finger one, its not sharp. It helps with laying the threads especially for me because its 3 threads over 11 count Aida. I make sure that I catch the thread on the back before I clip the knot. One question I have is it better to have a bigger needle or smaller needle to prevent the threads from shifting unevenly in the needle? I.E. one of the threads become 1 inch shorter than the other on the end and one loopy thread near the fabric. Its hard with 3 threads. Hope you understand. Thanks

    • @Stitcherista
      @Stitcherista  6 років тому +1

      floridagoods I would say a bigger needle would be best.

    I am contemplating making another face mask (hello pandemic) and doing a simple embroidery around the border.
    I was wondering if I use silk thread, would it survive the wash better? Do you have any ideas on this? I was also thinking of using just the gutermann silk thread, and wondering whether this would be suitable or not.. Thanks so much!

    • @Stitcherista
      @Stitcherista  3 роки тому

      I don't know, but I would think that a thread that would hold up would be the best to use, if that makes sense. Although I don't know what that is.

    Great tips! I really should use that lotion when I use silks because I have really BAD, calloused "MAN HANDS" - but I confess, I don't like lotion on my hands. It just feels YUCK to me! LOL
    The silks in this design are gorgeous! Especially that one you're using on this video. Mmmmmmm!
    I LOVE using silks! My absolute faves are "Au ver a Soie" (AVAS) Soie d'Alger. They are solid colored silks which are usually used for charting reproduction samplers like Scarlet Letter samplers, for example. But the variegated silks like Thread Gatherer, Gloriana and this Dinky Dyes in your video are TO DIE FOR, don't you think?! Loved seeing you use the laying tool -- such perfect stitches!!

    Thanks for another great tutorial. I have been wanting to try and stitch with silk thread, but I'm chicken. lol I have a question. Is silk thread like DMC's satin/rayon thread? I have tried DMC's satin and didn't like it. I liked the shimmery effect of it, but did not enjoy stitching with it. It's been years. I remember my thread would twist, fray and come out of the needle. I would cut my thread short, but didn't use a laying tool. At the time I didn't know what a laying tool was or have internet access. I'm dating myself now. lol Anyway, happy stitching.
