Incredibly so fortunate to relive these memories with the family.Just by listening to them speaking so highly of the person he was, to whom they have become speaks volume of who he was to them and their upbringing definitely shows in the them al daughters and grandchildren. He will be sadly missed and never forgotten. You can tell that all of his collection is a memory of a time a place a moment that will live forever in those who shared the journey with him. He said if we consign, "we'll sell the bigger cards to dealers". Why would they sell to dealers, they'll pay the bare minimum. You would get more from collectors on ebay. What a weird comment to make.
So? Consignment sets the price by the seller…its not an auction…if the dealers want to pay the asking price…so what?

The general public is not spending 50k plus on cards they sell to dealers the vend and over time maybe they will find someone to buy a portion of what they bought

Awesome video i remember when i was young got a 57 Topps Ernie Banks for $1.00 but i was grounded from collecting and this guy in Wonder Lake Illinois had it all Babe Jackie Lou and Mantles for cheap...I still kick myself in the ass till this day that was 1988 now it is 2024

Crazy rewatching this video because after watching the 1st one I stopped at Berkeley Springs with my family on a family road trip and had such a great time.
It’s a little gem up in WV on our way to Ohio! Haha so that’s for giving some attention to that town and it’s fun to explore.

I don't think I could ever part ways with my cards.. I was a 90s kid so most is junk wax but I loved it so much. I don't really have anything special but collecting them reminds me of where I was for some of my cards. Like a lot of people I started back in the past 3 years and sold my first card 1 year ago and it was hard to do even though it was a newer card. What a great collection and a great gift to give his family.

I feel like this would have been a huge show on the History Channel back in the day. It’s that good. I randomly typed in “old baseball collections” and found your channel. I don’t even watch baseball. I collected baseball cards like every other kid, but I love these types of stories. I’m drawn to them - the emotions, the history, the tension between seller and collector. It’s really cool. I just watched three of your videos. Good stuff.

I'm enjoying your show, literally watching it as I'm working on some of my tokenized crypto projects. I always loved collecting, I started collecting all the cards I could never get and always wanted and starting amassing a collection of PSA cards in 2014. I sold them off before 2020 at a profit but nothing close to what they are worth now. Just for reference, I keep all purchases on a spreadsheet. I have a purchase for a Babe Ruth 1933 Goudey PSA 3 for $1685 in August of 2015. I sold that card for $4000 several years later. I just looked and last sale is around $22,000. I'm actually inspired to get back into the hobby.
Pretty much every town in WV has those random landmarks and weird stores with nice people. Just a calming vibe. WV underrated...and CHEAP! nice vid

This story is the story of my life the past 20 years or so and my family doesn’t understand it. But I view everything exactly as this guy did. II can walk thru my house or sheds obviously insulated big boy sheds not quite buildings and just point out $1000 of dollars worth of stuff. From vintage t-shirts, jerseys and sneakers to cards and toys. Video games and so on. My wife and kids look at most like junk and clutter but one day they will be pleasantly surprised
Nothing but somewhat organized hoarding. That’s no way to “collect.” It truly is just hoarding. You can’t fully enjoy this many items. Quality over quantity. That’s rhetorical moral of the story. 😄

thank god the seller has a brain to check the buyers out ...and knows beforehand what they have .consignment is fine but the sller will only get 30% of the value imo

Guy rolled his eyes when they said we give you 50 or 60k for all of it and if he would have agreed i woulda slapped the snot ouofhim. Im glad he knew they were trying to pull one on him because that was ridiculous and then afterwards to pull one card out and say this is a 15 grand card here smh

I had a beautiful card set with a 58 top set that I upgraded books of stars at least 40 Hall of Fame baseballs a set of heartland statues the new edition not the old edition and various other sets of cards and accoutrements for the hobby guy p. When I lost the majority of my stuff in a robbery it took me years to even approached the hobby again because my heart was broken and my childhood was taken away I'm 67 it's been about eight years since it happened and now I'm starting to ease up and become a little more active in the hobby you would think I knew it all but I'm learning so much of what I missed I appreciate your wonderful show and the wonderful people and places you get to encounter I'm legally blind now I don't travel a lot more put the places you take me remind me of myself annoying that there are others out there like me I wish you all the best and your grand search and I wish I could do something just like you are but I'm selling my ranch and I'm getting an apartment in town and I should be cozy until I get to go play again on the Field of dreams be well

Should start a streaming service on whatnot and basically 24/7 stream like KK sportscards does. Think that would be great for you guys cause definitely have the inventory to do non stop $1 start auctions and majority of the time I've noticed they sell close to comps. Keep the big big cards but all those "bulk" still worth more that $1 is the best route cause will move super quick 1k plus cards a day sold.

I may be biased but this is still my favorite episode.
To say that you have to look at all cards as PSA 1 is utterly ridiculous, some of those higher end cards, just by merely seeing them you can tell they're higher grades. The Mantle "dads cookies", just because it's stapled, it doesn't automatically make it a PSA 1, that's just nonsense!
Actually it does and did. There were surfaces issues. Can’t see that on video. And most staple or holes in cards drastically reduce the grade.

I keep my collection to Chicago Cubs only. One of the first purchases I made was a 19th century cabinet card/photo of a baseball team having a picnic after a game, a really cool piece that was not Cubs related. After buying that I said this is a rabbit hole I cant afford to go down and have kept it Cubs from then on. This guy collected pre Ebay, Kudos to him for some amazing finds.
