As a psychologist its very common for the dream/fantasy we create in our minds is not always met in reality. You had a good attitude about keeping flexible and open to things to come in our journeys. An open mind provides more opportunities for great adventures we may not have imaged. Life is like a fine wine to be savored. Our age difference is only a few years apart.

Great job, Janice! Your reflections about the pace of life in France and the freedom we gain from adaptation is spot on. I am 69 and moved to the Dordogne from the States almost 3 years ago. It hasn't always been easy but life in this beautiful and charming country is well worth it. Take care!

But you still can realize your dream.! 74 years old is still young., if you have your health. I'm 73 and have been realizing lots of dreams. Better yet, I think that at this age we can appreciate things we did not care for when young and care less for some things that were important back then.

I live near the Mediterranean Sea of France my village is much smaller than where you live. Life moves like a snail down here no regrets living here yes we have much less here than you, but as the French say that life! My American father married my French mother when here came to France at the tail end of WWII, this allowed me to see two worlds instead of one, giving me the legal right to be where I want to be because I am a half-breed! Believe or not I have not paid one dime in taxes, and I do not have to pay any taxes to stay here for the rest of my life legally retired early! Your living your best life as do I! Your reflections are wonderful. Our experience was quite the opposite. We are French Canadian and we purchased a chateau to renovate. The entire experience was abysmal. Note that we are both career diplomats and are very educated in diplomacy and tact.

Janice this I LOVED this very Personal video. I hope the joys and realities of living your next chapter as an American choosing to live in France will mirror my own. I am in the midst of all the prep that needs to be done to make the move. Your e-book was very helpful on all the things I need to do and the time frames to make this dream a reality. My chosen location is Nice. I have joined many facebook groups particularly with retired American women who have already made the move. I have watched endless you tube videos including yours because women like yourself give women like me the courage to say I want to do that too. I will be spending a week in Nice in Sep to walk neighborhoods I have seen on so many videos to narrow down what feels like home to me. The goal is to get a 1 year lease in a furnished apt around the 1st of the year. I got to know Adrian Leeds many years ago through a friend and she is guiding me through this process. Once settled (with my Havanese Cali) I'll look forward to meeting you in person in the future in Paris . Thanks for all you do!

Having lived in a number of countries on different continents I have found that people, no matter where they live, are the same in many respects: they are busy with school, work, family, paying bills, getting ahead in life. Most haven't even seen a lot of their own countries. Many haven't visited nearby historic or cultural sites. They don't seem to view their environment as romantic or exotic. The stereotypes associated with different nationalities may have a degree of truth but they are nevertheless stereotypes; with globalization they are even less accurate, especially in Europe where the demographics are changing. I remember a Woody Allen film in which Allen walks down a street in Paris wearing a beret and carrying a baguette. Everyone in the cinema laughed - laughed because we all knew that Allen was living out the image so many have of Paris. It's often the foreigner who appreciates what locals take for granted or fail to appreciate.

Ah yes, how to romance ordinary, everyday life. Similar to, or is it the same? as no matter where you go, there you are. It sounds though like you still like being in France better than formerly the US. Certainly the architecture is very different and beautiful! Congrats on succeeding in the challenge of making a new and better life for yourself!
