Attila may be hard as hell, unbalanced, full of cheats for the AI and have some design flaws, it can make you angry most of the times because something doesn't work as planned, but for some weird reason it's still my favorite Total War game probably just because I just like to role play and think of the most crazy scenarios for the factions that even I lose or don't finish the campaign I know that I could change history in the most nonsensical ways.
You should then check the mods, they have done an absolute amazing overhaul of the game, including capturing settlements for other allied factions in Grand Campaign

tenchimuyo69 shogun failed as a game trying tbh, they focused to much on the detail and graphics of it, it’s no different from Mtw,rome or atilla, so there’s nothing that sets it apart besides the obvious like units and countries and nations etc etc other then that it’s weak
Talking about Shogun, the first one or shogun 2? Don’t go trash talking shogun 2 it is one of the best total wars, it is just overshadowed by the newer ones like 3k or the Warhammers
I never understood what the war coordination was. And now that I do, I am mind-blown. 😂 I didnt know about the barricades' faster reload. I usually use them for super close range. I've found it decimates units massively quickly at point blank.
I play as Visigoths and my empire is huge already, i think its all just about how to procede in every phase of the game: i followed the history behind the missions, went to Iberia and settled my horde there; until i did this i spent the entire early game turns on building the hord and then migrating: sacking and razing many places to fragilize the enemy. In my case i did not razed all places, for i would leave me no barrier against the huns while i stablished my empire in Spain. But the horde factions can do pretty much everything if you have pace and rythm: first grwoth, then migrate and destryo, then conquer and settle in: after that, EXPANSION, DOMINATE THE WOLRD; piece by piece, one campaing and region at once. By the bits you can reconstruct the Wersten Empire in your image, as im doing now.
I played Attila for 400 hours and never knew about ambush stance. It wasn't until I went to play Warhammer and then came back to this game that I noticed. Ambush stance works as well in this game as it does in Warhammer!
I am playing an Atilla campaign with the geats rnow and I am getting 8000 denarii from a long term trade agreement with eastern rome per turn. So yeah trading is cool
Thanks for this. The point about rapid firing archers on barricades was new to me, with the interaction with large shot being very interesting. Generally, I keep my archers back as the besiegers usually have missile superiority (I'd rather they fired at my spears with 100% block) but it is good to know. I am quite sure I get your recommendation to raze and rebuild a settlement that would have food issues, like in the Sahara. If it is just food, why not demolish any food consuming buildings you inherit? For example, I often lower the level of the core settlement buildings I occupy, as that helps reduce food consumption without having a big negative effect. Demolishing buildings also gives you cash. Razing and colonising costs gold and men, and takes an age to "regrow" the number of slots in the settlement. The main case where I might raze is where I can't cope with the public order problems, not the food. For example, if it is a non-capital settlement in a province and you can't control the capital (e.g. your ally or vassal has it). Typically, I find those more trouble than they are worth, so I am very tempted to raze them. For role play reasons, I usually resist though (I mainly play Romans and so leveling Roman settlements doesn't feel right). Ideally, there would be an option to give away settlements. I try to use the war goal feature you mentioned to induce allies to take such settlements if I don't want the hassle of controlling. But it is slow: allies often don't respond, take time to get there and frequently sack rather than occupy. The thing I wish I knew about Attila earlier, I just (re)discovered yesterday after 2000+ hours playing Attila: alt + right click targeting artillery. It seems to massively increase accuracy against stationary targets. For a long time I struggled to get bastion onagers to hit anything in a siege defence. Yesterday, I tried alt-targeting: first three shots, demolished three siege large onagers. As a consequence, the besieging artillery never breached the walls! I vaguely knew about the feature (apparently, it is in most TW games after Medieval 2) but I did not realise how big the benefits could be.
". Ideally, there would be an option to give away settlements" In TW Empire, U can give away lands, trade lands, or by and sell them. Trying to fight the Russians, and it is hell. Barely took Moscow, and then all the Russian armies descended. I gave Moscow to a Native American tribe. My army was moved to a safe location, and the new NA owners destroyed every western building in the province. Later I went back and took it over from the NA. Some times it makes sense to trade provinces with another faction. Also, U can give the province to an ally or vassal, that you think will be destroyed in a few turns, so that they survive and can continue helping them. Use your Free Will to LOVE!...it will help more than you know

I recently got addicted to Attila Total War. I absolutely hated it when it came out but about a week ago I began reading about the collapse of the western half of the Roman Empire and wanted to play a strategy game in that period. Attila is the only one I have so it had to be that one. Anyway I'm playing a game as the Western Roman Empire on hard campaign / medium battles and have loved every second of it, frustrating as it was sometimes. The start was rough as hell - I tried to hold Britain but got gang banged by the Picts, Ebdanians and Caledonians. I had one army of 10 units, they each had a full army. I withdrew the army there and sent it to help stabilize the situation in Gaul, which they did, but only after losing the northern half of Gaul also. Iberia had chronic public order issues so I had to keep an army there to put down rebellions, but after spending a hell of a lot of treasure there I've managed to turn it into an economic powerhouse and peaceful region of my empire. It's the only part of the empire that hasn't been invaded. I got lucky in Africa - the two tribes there were peaceful and traded with me. When they went to war with one another I was able to seize the opportunity to puppet one of them and annex the other. Dalmatia, Pannonia and Raetia were all lost due to relentless barbarian invasion but Stilicho was able to hold the mountain passes and keep northern Italy safe (except for the Iazyges tribe who sneaked through and sacked Aquileia, but they were ambushed when they tried to leave Italy and totally wiped out. It's now 407 AD and after many battles and much frustration I have re-conquered all of my initial territories in Gaul, am about to invade Britain again with two armies, have re-taken Raetia and am about to invade Dalmatia and see what can be done there. The Eastern Empire isn't faring too badly either. They've held Constantinople and the eastern half of Greece, they've held Anatolia and the Holy Land, though they've lost Egypt and Cyreneaica. Soon I ought to be able to take those provinces for the western empire, unless the eastern empire go back in first. All in all, probably the most fun I've had in a Total War game since Medieval 2. I don't think I've concentrated so intensely on a single campaign since Rome: Total War (the first one).
yea attila can be great if u just get into the time period and with the right mods can fix and improve the game so much to make it my fav TW plus the campaign dlcs are amazingwith their whole other list of great mods
@@killinspecialist1965 I played with Radious mod but it made the game ridiculously easy. As WRE I had 22,000 income per turn on the first turn, and garrisons were beefed up so much that I literally didn't lose a single city anywhere, not even in Britain. Then I tried a mod that increases garrisons by just 50% to make the game less frustrating, but that too made the game way too easy. Now all I have is a minor mod that lets your sanitation building increase fertility a little bit so that not all of your provinces are barren by the end of the game, which is ridiculous and unrealistic. You can't make all of your province rich fertility with it, it just allows your provinces to not go totally barren by the end of the game. I also have a minor mod that changes the way some units work in battle. It makes cavalry charges seem more realistic and makes battles last a little bit longer with more morale for units. I prefer slightly longer battles where entire armies don't run away after 5 seconds just because they took 10% casualties from a missile volley.
@@Aethelhald yea radious is a bit overrated but ive got a combination of like 100 something smaller mods that work perfectly together and with all these attila is one of the finest games ever made
@@killinspecialist1965 Wanna list some of the ones that you consider to be essential? I only have those two but I'd use more if I saw something I'd definitely enjoy. I don't want anything that makes the game easier though - what I love most about this game is the challenge of playing as either the western or eastern Roman Empire. It's unusual for strategy games to put you in such a dismal situation where you have to work like hell to get out of it. Dunno if you played it but the old Barbarian Invasion expansion for Rome: Total War was similar to this - you'd begin the game in 370-ish AD and your empire was bankrupt as hell and half your cities were on the verge of rebellion. There's just something great about turning around a dying empire.
@@Aethelhald have some great memories if BI most of the mods add realism in one way or another especially to units and combat but also to names, families, traits and campaign gameplay a few also remove or modify nonsense features that aren't realistic such as one of the climate change mods that makes it less permanent because last time i checked the mini ice age didn't last forever plus especially now that the campaign can last a bit longer too
I found out about the war-coordination thing yesterday, but what happened instead was my allies merely piled up their stacks close to an enemy settlement instead of sieging it

@@Aethelhald have some great memories if BI most of the mods add realism in one way or another especially to units and combat but also to names, families, traits and campaign gameplay a few also remove or modify nonsense features that aren't realistic such as one of the climate change mods that makes it less permanent because last time i checked the mini ice age didn't last forever plus especially now that the campaign can last a bit longer too
interesting, didnt know about the archers and barricades. thanks
Thanks for the video. Struggling as a beginner
I found out about the war-coordination thing yesterday, but what happened instead was my allies merely piled up their stacks close to an enemy settlement instead of sieging it
Many points are obvious for experienced players, but not for new ones.
But to the point of the ressources: Do built certain ressources like gold or other public order heavy buildings etc. on legendary difficulty. They are just not worth it due to the heavy penalties.
I play mk 1212 on Attila total war! Keeps this game fresh.
Rome II had coordinated campaign attacks also, so it’s not new to Attila, but good video
So did medieval 2, to be honest I can't think of a total war that doesn't.
“I definitely knew all of these you poopy heads”
Attila Total War: "Meh, it's just worse Rome II"
Attila Total War with 1212 mod: "Shut up and take my money!"
Yeah, if I ever bought Atilla then only for medieval mod campaign, cause the original is being set in most boring times.
@@radoslawpiotrpaszek3257 I bought it only for AoC campaign to restore the Roman Empire under the Theme of Sicily. It is worth.
What about Ancient Empires?
Well some of those are ultra non ovious :D Like that diplomacy map
I can't tell how much hours I played but thanks for the archery tips.
Love to come back to see some MELKOR videos. That accent is unique, where you from?
Only Saxons and Frank's 🤣
Bro you are missing out on so much humanistic moments of history and the challenge those people might have faced. Missed content if you ask me but all good, we all enjoy the same thing differently
Attila total was for me the only 2 factions for me are the Two Roman empires lol for the reason that they’re big. I like the west because it’s Thicc, and but needs to seriously get into shape.
God dammit, guess I'm starting a new Atilla campaign...
How did it go
@@averagenewbie2968 I started a game as Charlemagne on normal. Defeated Aquitane and their ally while getting some trade going with Austurias and some english kingdom. Haven't played much more after that as I got sidetracked by the 1212AD mod.
all of these advices (except barricade) are applicable for Rome 2 as well.
What in your opinion is the most historicly correct total war title. Acording to factions, units and political features?
Rome 2 when it comes to units its way more accruate than rome
@@zexfafa2794 And if you compare it to Attila?
@@lb1781 Attila is realistic as well(for a tw game) but l think rome 2 is better
thank my friend you helped me a lot.
Thanks this was very helpful
Great video, thank you for sharing! I had no idea that barricades can be so useful! Good moment to learn this as I have just been invaded by Huns in my Legendary WRE campaign. Anyway, what is the name of the music at the end?
If you mean the outro music, it's called "Contemplation" part of the Rome TW Soundtrack. :)
@@MelkorGG thank you for reply... havent played any of the Rome tw for a very long time, time to get back to it :D
How Were you playing as England at the begining of the video??
Age of Charlageme. It has formable nations. Play as Merica, and you become England if you expand enough.
I have a video planned on it someday
Yep, in a way : )
@@MelkorGG Mercia became 'Merica pretty easily XD
U realy need to try Lakhmids on very hard. most fun campain il ever played :)
Dude, that's what I just started with, on very hard, and now I'm left with only one city and can't get my armies out because of religious differences decimating public order. I wonder how I'm going to get out of this mess.
Just a minor correction you do get money from untraded resources, just not as much
I’m playing this with the terminus mod.. I already got to give a friendly faction a region.. but doesn’t seem to be an option again?!
Finn: I know - we'll just use our 1% IQ!
Han: That's not how IQ works!
Attila have the manual control for catapults and balista engines right? I’m replaying R2 now since I’m kinda burned out by playing Warhammer 2 non stop. I tried to play Napoleon but after it reminds me of empire and the amount pain i got from it I quit that too.
It has manual control for artillery.
@@ETCABEZONthanks
Just started playing this game myself. Curious is there a way to lower the cost to colonise desolate settlements
Also in Rome 2, certain areas e.g Sicily is a rich area. Are there rich areas in this one? And is there any bonuses to holding rome. Rome is desolate on my current save. (I think it's rome anyways)
Who are the "Hons"? I've played as the Huns.
?
@@MelkorGG You say something twice at 2:40. Maybe it's your accent but that's what it sounds like. Then you say huns normally. I am confused.
You have great videos. But that entire start of the video about the way to have your allies attack. Bud sorry to burst that new bubble you just found there, but that mechanic has been there since medieval and the first Rome total war
? That's in Rome Total War. Please tell me how and where.
I'm one of the last youtubers actually covering the game and nobody has ever brought this up before.
MELKOR it’s in the same spot that it is there on Attila, belive me bud I use it a lot 🤣
MELKOR you’ve always been able to have your allies attack and all by selecting another siege point/castle/town
MELKOR Rome came out way before Attila, so anything I’m Attila came from Rome or medieval total war games and builds. Attila has better graphics and effects though
@@DonaldMcNuGGeT There is no universal diplomacy in Rome 1 or Medieval.
Send me a screenshot either on Discord, email, or twitter, you must be confused with something.
You cannot tell allies to attack a specific settlement in Rome 1 or Medieval 2.
the three minutes of insult warnings... lol
Brother, where is your accent from? I cannot place it! Scotland? but... maybe a different part of Scotland than what I'm used to hearing?
I miss your videos
Do a Huns let’s play/role play campaign pls
Eventually, once I start streaming, I will : )
But, for the time being, there's Carthage tomorrow.
MELKOR streaming :o cant wait
the first one also works on rome 2
I play the game for 1 hour and I know all of that
I knew all of these and I’m smarter than everybody 😎😃
I was playing as the vikings at ribe sent my ships west to land on England did that landed sacked two settlements but when i bring the troops back to get on the ship they wont, is this normal? Was hoping to get into the viking playthrough kind of like i did in mount and blade viking conquest but with bigger armies but when things don’t work it kinda ruins the immersion you try to set.
Melkor, what are you P.C. specifications?
Windows 10 laptop. i5 something. 4 cores. 12GB ram. Gtx 1050 Graphics card.
Should be upgrading to something much bigger soon, once I get my new place.
If I am not mistaken, the Colossus should still exist standing at that time period. It was destroyed way later, when Rhodes was sacked by the Saracens
Nevermind, the Colossus indeed collapsed after an earthquake at 222 BC and was left ruined but indeed was sacked and then vanished entirely by the Saracens at 654 AD
"Saracens" 🤓
"Saracens" 🤓
5:44 i hear kitty
*units not squads, squads are up to 15 men.
I feel like Attila is harder than Rome II.
good
Also will a ASUS rog i7 core, rtx2060
Will this play the game good on ultra settings?
I can't really understand what you are talking about (coz of my english) . If you could write those 6 things, i would appreciate it :)
Your funny. I know this is old, don't know if anyone will read this but in one breath your telling people to be nice in the comments then in your next breath you advise that it's easier to commit genocide against the people you've brutally conquered rather than having to bothered to feed them lol.
I’m just trash at Atilla so it doesn’t make a difference if I know them or not.
i honestly didnt know shit about it
Everyone with more than 1% iq knew 100% of these on their first hour playing... duh
XD 1 hour of playing? My first hour was spent in the loading screen.
@@MelkorGG 1:38 LUL :D
@@Ganjor420 XD This is the problem with saying stuff like that. Years later, I forget XD
HOW DO I STOP FUCKING uprising or session???? HATE THAT MAKES GAME STUPID!
I believe that the African kingdoms are pretty easy starts due to being pressed up against the border of the map
wıch language is this ? English ? British ? angient Jewish ? I didnt understand almost %50
Anyone ever become minor religion in this game? It’s fun being a satanic cult
The British accent is hard to understand :D
Rome 2 > Attila
Med 2 > Rome 2
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. - John 3:16 from the Bible ❤

did you naaaah
Rome 2 > Attila
That's subjective my dude.
Personally I Find Attila far better.
