Exact same thing happened to a friend of mine. The three guys involved randomly ended up in the ER and had to have multiple surgeries and his EXs house got broken into and the entire place was trashed. Some random honorable citizen then returned the two cats to him. Hope you get the same kind of karma.

An old roomate of mine stole my cat too and the police in Québec don't give a fuck about cats apparently.
This happened to me last year and I'm still mad about it... poor cat.
You should check to see if Belgium has an independent police complaints commission or an equivalent like we do in the UK and see if you can make a complaint directly to them, bypassing the police.

I have no clue who you are mate but that sucks and is very much illegal the way they entered your house. I own a cat and I'd personally go on a f$cking crusade if someone did that. The police were so ridicilous in this situation I'd want to file a complaint about the police. Defenitly think it's smart to go one step higher than the police and go to the people who are in charge of them. In the mean time a way to possibly feel more safe could be something like a ring cam or some way to see who's at your door. Also important detail *yes* you opened the door, but opening the door is not the same as letting someone in. You can open the door for the police but without a warrant you can deny them entry, this is no different for normal people. Even if your door is wide open because maybe you left it open for some reason, it's still illegal to enter. Now of course I don't know the laws of every country but I highly doubt that there's no *illegal forced entry law*
Because it wasn't just illegal entry which would be one thing, but they used physical force.
Which would be Forcible Entry: Forcible entry is "the unlawful taking of possession of real property by force or threats of force or unlawful entry into or onto another's property, especially when accompanied by force"
which is *both* the case here, they broke in using force and unlawfully took possession of real property.
If the police just ignores that they shouldn't be police and quite honestly should be fired.
Also indeed a good move to tell, family, friends and neighbors your story so they can help, give advice and help prevent something like that from happening again and maybe even help complain against the police for mishandling your case. I'm from the Netherlands and over here, there's no way that's normal or I'd stand for that nor would the people around me. That's simply bad police work. "Believe her" level of mentality actually insane.
Maybe this ex-GF of his, and those 2 men are from a special group the Belgium police are protecting.

What a mean person :c I'm glad you have your cars back. Poor cats. I know i should feel sorry for you too, which i do, but i mainly focus on the animals because animals should NEVER be caught in the crossfire. Animals are innocent :c They're precious. When you deal with someone this crazy, like your ex, get security cameras :c It's worth it.
Shit my ex took my dog made fake dating profiles on gay websites and sent the police to my house over 30 times in a 4 month period claiming I told her I was gonna end myself lol. I feel you for the cats but it can get a lot worse. A little pro tip get cameras for your doors and get one in the main area of your house it will help you a lot of this happens again
