I was there that day. We got there at 4am and the non VIP guests were all inside Disneyland during the ceremonies. Then after it was over, they let us inside California Adventure.
It took 11 years, Eisner leaving, and another $1.5 billion (Tower of Terror, Monster's Inc Ride, Bug's Land, Toy Story Mania, Little Mermaid Ride, Cars Land, and Buena Vista Street) to finally turn DCA into a Disney-quality theme park.
The opening ceremony looks more like an Olympic ceremony than a theme park opening, especially a disney one. Even the dedication declares a disney theme park lacking disney itself.
Not surprising since Salt Lake City was hosting the 2002 Winter Olympics. The entire park in its early days felt more like the Olympics than a Disney park.
Disney California Adventure is now so much better since it was opened. Now the park making its name on the map. DCA is now not behind Disneyland Park and other Disney parks.
BryceFourn 2001 You should go and check inside because this year a new World of Color: Celebrate! Will debut in May 22 2015 and a new part of Grizzly Peak will open also in May. Next year a new ride will open in Carsland a trackless type of ride.

This is the version of Disney's Animal Kingdom (Canada) Opening Ceremony on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2020, And At End of the Opening Ceremony with the word Robert A. Iger Thanks to our generous sponsors of or to the all-new of Disney's Animal Kingdom (Canada) where students can dressed up as in the video from Disney's California Adventure Opening Ceremony and they should do the same thing as they do on the video to honor Walt Disney it's 119th birthday
brent mims Believe it or not, that's not the first time Disney had some involvement with an Olympic opening ceremony. Walt himself organized both the opening and closing ceremonies for the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley.
i under stand hoe DCA s them was more soul, theme, and trying to be"organic" if i may say i kinda liked it espaccaliy there first parade it had tons of soul and life in it...just not many people got it and as the years passed it was then out of place and , of course new trends started..so DCA was left in the dust...but all that is changing with its new make over that already many people are in joying once again . . . good luck DCA and see you soon! :)

Well yeah but then it hasn't failed technically. It's thriving now... to truly say it failed would be like saying Epcot over in Disney World failed. Epcot had a bad start too but picked itself up.
Was there ...was so tired ,was hard to stay warm over night on the streets of Disneyland.Camping out was fun though. :)

Mickey looks like he's on something during Eisner's speech. Constantly twitching and gesturing.
Happy 15th anniversary to Disney's California Adventure!

This is great!
OMG!!! This opened on my sis bday!!
I think their doing good with the expansion, it needs something to give it some theme.
lawl i was there before california adventures opened o: they were just constructing it xP
This looks more like something you would see at the opening ceremonies for the *Olympics* than the opening of a theme park. LOL!
Disney was involved in the Atlanta 1996 opening ceremony

Holy crap. It's official, I'm old.

There's a lady in a sun, a cardboard cutout of the state and a giant California. Just like the real California!
why did they have to take out the bridge it was awesome to walk up to it
The ceremony is more entertaining than anything at DCA 1.0

still better than the london 2012 opening ceremony

@Picklesthedrummer7 especially now that it is rapidly growingwith its expansions.
The Klepper family shall be disappointed.
Ah DCA a "Failure" but now its taking a turn for the better
15 years ago today...
what did you watch this on
Nicholas Van Zomeren the year was 2001. still boxy crapped tvs
What were they thinking...
@DisneyDUDE1231 ??? The park didnt fail.....
So.... I was not wrong?
Trying to be disneysea-ish with all the sun lady, ocean and stuff...and it failed.
