come to think of it topaz is literally like the pyro fatui agents from genshin - both use fire abilities - both are debt collectors - both work for massive questionable corporations
@@theimmortal3907idk man, if what belobog went through is considered lucky, then that only adds to the ipc's negative rep/scummy motives. She may be genuine but her job isn't Unless she's got some kind of contract with them, forcing her to work for em.
i feel validated that i wasn't the only one who was very turned off by topaz the entire quest (except for the ending). as someone who skipped every banner after kafka to get her, i was absolutely terrified i was gonna end up hating her. im glad they showed her good side in the end. plus numby is adorable
honestly UD prolly has the best opinion/viewpoint of her that most people should recognize. Her actions are very gray and whether or not you can accept it is personal, but they're not necessarily worth hating herself for
I love her, I’d love her even if she didn’t change at the end honestly lol I just found her character v interesting- I liked that I actually understood both sides it was quite a morally grey situation imo, she had her reasons for thinking the way she did and I appreciate that even if I didn’t necessarily agree by the end
I like her because I like seeing characters with various kinds of morality, but at the same time I do despise her lol. Not like the people who'd take the time to print out a photo of an anime character and burn it, just in a normal way. Numby is cute tho. If I had to get her, it'd be for Numby only
Honestly, even the "good" IPC characters (Topaz included) have a sense of superiority and condescending sense of compassion, which feels very similar to quite a number "White Man's Burden" plot lines in some stereotypical western drama movies
Interesting thing of note, if you don't do the Museum questline, the Wallace and Norbert interaction doesn't spawn in, as it spoils a section about halfway through the previous archived event.
1:27:09 spoiler alert genshin archon quest act 5 ver. 4.2 . Remember from genshin impact. Their foreshadowing that prophecy can be change with different perspective. We don't know yet what the future elio was said about it so i hope they will do something like genshin to star rail but not that similary too much.
I just wanna say, thank you. Thank you so much for your hard work putting together a great video review on the past events of the story accompanied with insightful commentaries of yours as well. I'm not a native speaker, so I really find it complex and convoluted process digesting what's been shown and said on the screen in relatively quick pace for my degenerate, rotten brain that tends to forget everything past 5 seconds. After so much time, I finally truly comprehend and got the whole picture after watching you play the story. F my fogged brain, man... But I really hope you'll continue uploading such a great content!
I was preparing to pull for topaz (more for numby tbh), but this quest literally convinced me not to. The immense injustice in not waiving belobog's debt when the IPC abandoned them and belobog didnt even end up using the things loaned to them because they didnt so much as left instructions on how to use the machines, they literally just dipped and left them to die--it was just infuriating. How she (and the IPC) seem to operate mirrors a lot of real life scenarios and it just didnt sit right w me. I'm glad she ended up helping them in the end, but it didnt erase the icky feeling I had for her all throughout the quest. And I cant help but not like her knowing she let them off on a whim. If the Astral Express had not been there, Belobog would be essentially enslaved by the IPC even though Belobog literally survived on their own, and WE helped them. The fact that we didnt ask for anything in return, then Topaz comes in acting like Belobog owes them their lives is just ugh, gtfo. You didnt do shit. Now Im scared because I was excited about Aventurine, but that phonecall at the end just makes me feel like I wont like him either.
The way I see it, Topaz is like a cop. In any other context, she’s a great person. But when on the job, she ain’t your friend at best, and at worst, she’s a threat and part of the problem. She’s not “the bad guy” in this story, its IPC. She just happens to represent them
@@tatarsauce6314 I get it, but just as I wouldnt like someone representing an outright opportunistic corpo trying to swindle you at your lowest, convincing you selling yourself to them is for your own good, I also dont like her.
Tbf I also disliked her until the end of the quest. With her story (her planet had the same thing happen to it like Belobog) it is implied she is a IPC "slave", meaning her employment was not an option. She saw the good the company had done to her birth planet and had a positive view on the IPC and began working for them but never did she blindly follow their policies. She is just part of the IPC, forever. She takes a huuugee risk at the end, the final cutscene showing us that she got in trouble with the higher-ups. She didn't have to do any of that. If Aventurine or any other agent had gone to Belobog they probably would have ransacked everything and everyone. The reason the Xianzhou has such a tight grip on the IPC dealings and such is because once you are part of it you can't get out. It's a capitalistic black hole. I really love Topaz as the grey character she is. She is also very good for my Jing Yuan gameplay-wise lmao.
thanks for reminding me, all of the IPC characters actually do have gemstones as their names. I am pretty sure they hide their real identities away...not to mention using voice changer everytime they hold an important meeting? That's sick. Maybe you can understand their personalities through their names. But one thing is for sure, we may meet Topaz again in Penacony with this Aventurine if she agrees with the project. Also Numby is probably the smartest animal out there 😭 in one of the topaz web event little guy literally bested me in investments i was so shocked
Fun Fact: The "those that are willing to give up freedom for security deserve neither" quote is from Benjamin Franklin. Pretty ironic we're hearing it in a Chinese game...
Yooo I love that you covered this quest because I finally have an excuse to vent lol. I both loved and hated this quest. Loved it because it's a realistic example of what happens if a megacorporation discovers an un-exploited area and because the Pokemon game mode was fun. Hated it because fk u IPC I don't care if your big boss's grand mission is to fund Qlipoth's wall every time we've seen you you're trying to screw someone else over for money. They literally realized Jarilo 6 still had people, "found" some evidence of a "loan" they gave out to some of Belobog's people that conveniently are too dead to object, and also conveniently forgot the fact that they literally scammed Jarilo 6 because they took all the passwords to the robot factory with them when they left. Alisa Rand literally had to have Belobog build their own big robot because they couldn't access the robots that the IPC "loaned" them. So now, 700 years after leaving Jarilo 6 to fend for itself, they come demanding a pay-back for a "loan" long written off as a loss and forgotten about plus a ton of extra because surprise! This loan that expired because we thought you all fkn died after we scammed you and left you all to die turned out to totally have been generating interest the whole time! You can't pay this absurd number we pulled out of our ass since it's not like any of the original signatories are alive to correct us? Ok then sell your entire planet to slavery! We will definitely do our best to "fix" your planet instead of using the "fixing" as leverage to subjugate your people! Ignore the fact that we only have a 60% success rate, and the fact that we'll be destroying your culture and way of life until you forget you were ever free and not slaves of the IPC! Also hated it because Topaz is a perfect guide on how not to write a character with complex motivations and a variable alliance to the main characters. I feel like they tried to make her both the ruthless "good" guy who has seen devastation and is willing to do anything to make sure it doesn't happen to others, as well as the fake-cheerful villain who sees everyone and everything as bags to squeeze money from and uses her smile to hide her true self from her victims. Maybe it could work with a 2nd Topaz quest where we get to interact more with her, but as of right now all I'm seeing is Hoyo failing to smush two characters into one body. However, credit where credit's due, they did a good job of showing that Topaz is so high on the IPC zaza (probably from being groomed by them) that despite being decently high ranked she sees the IPC as the best option in all situations. The big problem with her slavery deal is that Jarilo 6 has no means of making sure the IPC actually puts in any effort into the restoration, and Topaz isn't high enough on the ladder to make the IPC do anything, meaning it's entirely possible the IPC only puts in a token effort and pulls out the slavery deal document whenever Jarilo 6 tries to speak up. We also don't know how her previous projects are doing. Sure Topaz has an 80% restoration success rate, but that's just physical restoration. Has she ever been back to any of her "fixed" planets to see how the people are doing? What about her home world? She says in her letter to Bronya that after the IPC arrived, they fixed her world's pollution problem and now people can walk around without oxygen masks, but are they happy? Fulfilled? Or do they think that they've merely traded one corrupt oligarch for another? Are they even capable of having such thoughts or have they been ground down by the boot of the IPC and conditioned into not even being able to dream of brighter days? Anyway, TLDR: IPC bad, Topaz needs a 2nd quest, sorry for venting on your channel but I couldn't help it once I saw the upload lol.
i really have to disagree i honestly think she was just doing her job, shes not perfect but she’s definitely realistic. also fhe IPC is actually going against qlipoths wishes lol, qlipoth wants to isolate themselves and keep then preserved while the IPC is trying to connect and protect worlds , same word, different meanings.
