Ken and Corey take an in-depth tour through one of Ken’s most well-known contributions to integral philosophy: the Four Quadrants. Watch as Ken shares his personal story about the origins of the Four Quadrant model - the day everything came together - as he weaves 3rd-person theoretical descriptions of the model with his own 1st-person experience and creative process. We also take a close look at the nature of the quadrants themselves and ponder how exactly these fundamental dimensions of existence - dimensions that are every bit as real as the four dimensions of space-time - came into being in the first place.

TLDR: Understanding the four quadrants and their connection to systems theory is crucial in recognizing different perspectives and promoting growth and development towards unity and enlightenment.
    1. 00:00 🔑 The video discusses the significance of the four quadrants in understanding different perspectives and how they connect in various systems and disciplines.
1.1 Today's episode will discuss the four quadrants, a critical element of the integral model.
1.2 Ken Wilber shamelessly plugs his woodworking business where he creates custom four quadrant portraits for commission.
1.3 The universe is fundamentally made of perspectives, and in this video, the speaker discusses the four quadrants and their significance in understanding different perspectives.
1.4 The speaker explores the relationship between perspectives and quadrants and shares their personal journey of discovering the four quadrants in their quest to understand how different systems and disciplines connect.
    2. 04:21 🌈 Different forms of growth, like therapy and meditation, contradict each other but ultimately lead to the realization of being one with everything.
2.1 Different forms of growth, such as therapy and meditation, aim to improve individuals, but they often contradict each other, as seen in the example of psychoanalysis where creating a healthy ego leads to the reduction of neuroses.
2.2 Zen Buddhism and the concept of eliminating the ego appear incompatible.
2.3 Consciousness is like a rainbow with different levels and types of growth and therapy applying to different bands of the spectrum, leading to the realization of being one with everything.
    3. 07:58 🔑 Human beings naturally progress from unity to separation, but can regain unity through growth and consciousness, leading to enlightenment and realization.
3.1 In the early stages of life, infants experience a sense of unity with their environment, but as they develop a separate rational ego, suffering and neurosis arise; however, through growth and consciousness, individuals can regain this unity state, leading to enlightenment or realization.
3.2 Human beings have a natural progression from unity to separation, but can regain unity through enlightenment and realization.
3.3 The early infantile state of unity is not a true unity with all aspects of being, but rather a unity with the lowest level of the material environment.
3.4 The speaker discusses the progression of human development from the physical to the spiritual, emphasizing the importance of not regressing to a pre-personal state.
    4. 13:06 📚 The speaker explores the four quadrants and their connection to systems theory, reflecting on their impact on society's moral perspective and identity in the context of post-modernism.
4.1 The speaker discusses the four quadrants and their relation to systems theory, mentioning their significance in his life after meeting and marrying someone named TRAI.
4.2 After taking care of his wife who had cancer for five years, the speaker realized that post-modernism had infiltrated academia and had both positive and negative effects on society's moral perspective and identity.
    5. 16:22 📚 Christians believed they were the only ones with access to heaven, but philosophers argued for equal rights; slavery was outlawed in rational industrial countries; the shift to rational thinking led to modern sciences and universal truths; conservatives and liberals emerged as political parties until the green postmodern stage emphasized relativism and multiculturalism.
5.1 In the Middle Ages, Christians believed they were the only ones with rights and access to heaven, but philosophers argued that all humans have equal rights regardless of their religious beliefs.
5.2 Slavery was prevalent in many cultures, including those that introduced paths of enlightenment, but in a 100-year period from 1770 to 1870, it was outlawed in every rational industrial country.
5.3 The shift from mythic to rational thinking led to the invention of modern sciences and the belief in universal truths, which replaced ethnocentric perspectives.
5.4 Conservatives and liberals emerged as political parties, with conservatives valuing conservation and liberals valuing universal freedom, until the emergence of the green postmodern stage in the 1960s, which emphasized relativism and multiculturalism.
    6. 21:31 📚 Confusing dominator hierarchies with growth hierarchies leads to the misconception that all hierarchies are bad, when in reality dominator hierarchies involve oppression and suffering, while growth hierarchies promote progress and advancement; individuals can grow and develop their identities to become more inclusive, progressing from ethnocentric to world centric and even Cosmo centric and integral stages of development.
6.1 Confusing dominator hierarchies with growth hierarchies leads to the misconception that all hierarchies are bad, when in reality dominator hierarchies involve oppression and suffering, while growth hierarchies promote progress and advancement.
6.2 As individuals grow and develop their identities, they can become more inclusive and expand their identity from just themselves to entire groups, progressing from ethnocentric to world centric and even Cosmo centric and integral stages of development.
    7. 24:29 📝 The speaker analyzed developmental psychology models and found common factors in growth and development, using yellow legal pads to note similarities and differences, including atoms.
7.1 The speaker had written several books on growth hierarchies and realized that discussing hierarchy would not be well-received in academia, so they analyzed over a hundred models of developmental psychology to determine common factors in growth and development.
7.2 The speaker used yellow legal pads to write down different ideas, noticing similarities and differences among them, including atoms.
    8. 27:23 🔑 The speaker explores the integration of different stages of development, emphasizing the importance of subject-object differentiation and the four quadrants as fundamental distinctions in the universe.
8.1 The speaker explores the integration of different stages of biological and socio-economic development, drawing on the concept of subject-object differentiation as a common theme in metaphysical systems.
8.2 About half of the whole arc keys discussed subjective growth and development, while the other half focused on objective growth and development, with the former including individual growth needs and world views.
8.3 There were different levels of consciousness in cultures, ranging from individual to collective, with distinct organizing principles such as magic, mythic, and rational enlightenment.
8.4 The four quadrants, representing subjective and objective, individual and collective domains, are fundamental distinctions that are present throughout the universe.

This is so ahead of its time and that's why it's had a huge slump. Decades later it will be centre stage and helping humanity. Blessings to you again Wilbur and everyone keeping the flame alive. ❤
I suspect it will be built into super AI to keep things on track.

Corey belongs more to the world of evolutionary art and intellect than that of teacher or pundit. The wood carvings are gorgeous. One of my best web experiences ever was learning about AQAL on the old Integral Naked site. That site was a true work of art, and it is still etched into my mindseye like a Saturday morning cartoon.

It was the same for me. Age 20 1978 discovered Hippocrates four humours by Dr Tim laHaye.
What I was able to observe and extract over the next 45 years in conclusion would in all respects mirror this four quadrant realization. I knew melancholy as the internal individual
Similar to sanguine mirror to the external individual the Christ temperament as most carpenters appear even today.
Further more the introvert internal collective clearly the phlegmatic temperament who internalizes an external collective material view
Then similar to phlegmatic the external collective Choleric everything material in the external world. This was my thought conclusions that mirror the four quadrants.
Did Hippocrates offer our most basic formula from which all else manifests from.
The collective being the world material system opposite the Christ temperament.
Jews have all four like everyone but are dominant with the collective Choleric Phlegmatic temperament opposite the christ.christ was a Jew whose dominant first two temperaments that of the individualists

I suggest to read orthodox christians literature, like Saint Maxim, Saint Vasile the Big (cel Mare) and books about the prayer of the heart - the Jesus prayer. In orthodox christianity there are books that give an answer to all. Christian Orthodoxism is something else, a code that you could and should find and understand trully. :)

1770 the anti-slavery law was passed in the west. In 1699 in Punjab, at a huge gathering at Anandpur, Guru Gobind Singh established the community of equality "warriors". It was a culmination of decades of anti-slavery, equal rights for all practical living and teaching by the Sikh gurus.
In fact, the integral vision was expressed by Guru Nanak around 1500 when he declared his universal vision of humanity as one.
The messages of oneness are sung and lived by Sikhs everywhere in the world. The best is yet to be.

It should be obvious to Integrals by now how hard it is to organize and lead a spiritual community, let alone enact social change to more clearly reflect some chosen set of spiritual values. When we find ourselves treading out into the unknown depths of a given ideology, regardless of its application, we will tend to rest our bone fides on the credibility of one person-Theranos, Madoff, Manson, or the Pope himself-all in a blind leap of faith, even with the present knowledge that usually these sorts of endeavors fail, and fail miserably and soberingly.
Much of what Integral Wilberism seeks to solve are problems it cannot diagnose, let alone understand. It sees in the world distortions that might in fact be processes in uncomfortable stages, the interrupting of which could derail the very stability of our world. If these ideas take hold and begin to shape our world in a way which is not itself a distortion, then it will be proven in the course of time, and we will all look back at Wilber and see a misunderstood genius come far before his time-a messenger. However, to me, it seems this whole movement suffers under the weight of a giant elephant called Hypocrisy.
Integral theory is not so different from other traditions, even in our time, which seek to enrich certain people in the course of drumming up book sales and speaking fees. I am reminded of the old adage about not hating the player, but hating the game. If this is the arts and crafts episode of the Ken Show, and it's time to purchase the wall hangings of the host, then we should all open up our PayPal apps and get to work on changing the world.

Integral is a framework to explore and develop with when one grows out of the Post Modernist mindset. It helps explain things and entrain thinking to become more world class. Ken's teachings also develop witness consciousness that is the birthing of a new mode of aptitude and knowledge. It is really just a station for the Integral stage of consciousness (Yellow) that is moved beyond when moving to the Holistic stage (Turquoise). The Integral Stage is "Self-Expressing" as is evidenced by many in it featuring art, instruments, things for sale etc., in the background of their videos, as if torn between their work and their expression. The Holistic stage is "self-sacrificing" in that it gives up its attempts to express in order to serve directly and more egolessly at a World Centric level. This level is called Globalist also, yet should not be confused with the political term, as it recognizes the need for global governance, yet only in an enlightened form, and not in an elitist dominance fashion of bankers and communists. Therefore, Integral has immense value as a spoke on the wheel, yet collapses under its own pressure when not rooted in egoless service, or the Heart rather than the mind.

@@jgannon1637 I don't see anything happening like what you're describing. I just see the smart kids in the class. I see them getting knocked out first in dodgeball, and I see them not getting the girl, and Insee them getting a free ride scholarship to the state university, and I see them academically advanced, and I see them still unfulfilled and lost, looking for answers. The answers that will sat iffy them must be as complex as possible so their minds can chew on it like a dog with a bone; maybe for decades.
And Ken Wilber is a genius, and he is probably capable of easily achieving different meditative states, and he is a great meta-analyst. But he doesn't have any clue about Spirit. He's a child just like you and I in that regard.
Do what he is possibly doing is creating a path to get people like this back on The Path. It's tough, because people like this always think they're better than others and so much smarter, so you have to trick them back into humanity. You have to create a framework that let's them be egomaniacal while simultaneously working toward traditions that require a great deal of humility.
The great pride of Neo-liberalism and the Integral scheme presented by Wilber not only crashed the economy and ruined countless lives, but also alienated many people who were ready to evolve more naturally into compassionate and scientifically-open conservatives (post-mythical, pre-rational) probably for the rest of their lives. The great harm that can be done in hubris and ego-driven self-assurance can never be taken lightly.
It's a great relief, then, that Wilber is beginning to put on a wig and take off the mask.

@@lukefromdenver7609 That superiority you speak of is in itself a stage, as it reintroduces the notion of superiority that was lost in the narcissism and nihilism of Post-Modernism( eg. Liberty is superior to tyranny, efficiency is superior to waste, growth is superior to dominance, etc.). That becomes empty though, as its tough to be a human around the proverbial campfire when your mind is ablaze with structures and differentiation. I was lost and an ass when developing through the Integral stage, yet then I found my my guru Adi Da Samraj, and the emptiness became fullness. Just like for many going to a music festival wakes them up from consumerism, so too does Ken's work become a new ground of possibility to one just becoming aware of themselves multidimensionally. I constantly engage with Integral, as a conservative. to point out that they contribute to elitism with a lot of the peripheral punditry taking advantage of Ken's legacy, though I understand that he is probably complicit. It wasn't Ken's scheme that crashed the economy, moreso the Boomer mentality both on the left and right. All is not lost though, and can be corrected via restoring Liberty over elitism, empowering younger people with a UBI, and decoupling from human rights abusers. The battle is shaping up to be a generational one, especially in light of the virus that will necessitate massive money printing. The Boomers and the elites will want that money to go to save their pensions and asset prices, in the form of QE,furthering the Cantillon effect that makes kids serfs. It is incumbent on younger generations to demand a UBI style fiat system instead. Boomers will try every smear they can, yet the power just shifted with the conjunction of Saturn and Pluto in the sky, and so we now have the power, yet must stand strong in order to be lovingly triumphant and save Western Civ. Love!
