This DIY modern outdoor sofa, aka "The Falcon Wing Sofa," is seriously impressive! The sleek design and innovative folding mechanism make it a standout piece for any outdoor space. Your step-by-step instructions were super clear and easy to follow, making it seem totally doable for DIY enthusiasts like myself. Can't wait to give it a try and add some stylish comfort to my patio! 🛋
Don't know if you know but since it's for outdoor use that's why it is good to put sealer, spray it to make the water repel. And stain will also been awesome. Beautiful work other then that.
Thanks! Good points and certainly would be a must for pine or other wood. With cedar, finish isn't as critical, but I am finding these different projects with teak oil after the cedar grays out. I've debated on if I should put a video out on it.
i always felt modern furnishings were more square to save money in production, and seeing how accessible it is to make this crap myself, i am tempted to do this for people as house warming gifts
I love it. I got me someone to build me a Pergola and they will be doing 2 large sectional couches and I want the back and seating to be slanted. It's the most comfortable seating. Also he will build 2....2 seater couches to store my cushions.
I finished it with outdoor polyurethane. Probably if I had used a sprayer it would have worked better/ had a more comprehensive coating, but it's still not ideal imo.
Yeah I would use some heavy duty finish from a company like Total Boat. However if you didn't start already I would suggest the cedar route and oil finish. Good luck!
You would need to add a leg at the desired length and ensure there is a falcon wing support at that location as well. I think you could make it look pretty good.
@@NATHANBUILDS I’ve built it on the weekend! Everything you described and shared was so helpful and I can’t begin to tell you how much we love the outcome! If I could add pictures I would

Hola saludos desde PERU gracias por mostrar espectacular video de cómo podemos hacer este bellísimo mueble ..saludos y bendiciones y que sigan los exitos
if you were to make these and sell them would you still use the pocket holes? really not just for this project but for anything you would make and sell?
Nice looking sofa. Personally, if I were building one of these I would put a 1x6 on each armrest and along the backrest and I would put the bottom 2x4 of each end the full dimension from front to rear rather than between the front and rear and put stand-offs to keep the sofa apart from the concrete floor about 1" or 1 1/2".
Like this sofa build over the original, but would 105° back rest be more comfortable than it being 90° with the seat? I like how the original wasn’t just 90°.
Hey sorry, you're comment got caught in the spam filter. You could easily make the adjustment - however having used this for a few weeks now I can say I have not noticed it to be an issue. Although I am using cushions so that might be one reason.
Hey - this can easily be built in a day or a weekend. Cost will vary a lot depending what type of wood you use. I may have included that in the video description though.
Less material and aesthetics. The first one I made used 2x4 and it was definitely stronge, but with the additional supports I added, this version is super solid as well.
Hi! Unfortunately I'm not sure where to purchase these woodworking tools in Indonesia. Anywhere that sells home improvement type products should have some of them. Good luck!
Thanks! I think at the time not more than 100$ for the wood. Probably closer to 70. The 2x4s are 10 each and the pickets are 2.50. Prices for cedar have gone up by but by too much. I got mine at lowes
I mean even without glueing stuff together, you could probably do something similar as long as you have some longer boards. Give it a shot and send me a finished picture of it!!
This is great. I am going to download and build one too. What did you learn from doing the pocket holes? Any tips? Any plans of painting it? I think it would take it to the next level once painted. I’d say something bright but says “you” ya know. A yellow could work with those pillows. Thanks for the video!🤙🤙🤙
If your going to paint it you might as well use pine and save some money in wood :). Pocket holes are holding up great. Send me a finished photo on instagram if you're on there. Good luck!
It will vary greatly depending on the wood type and even the specific cedar 2x wood you get. But mine is about maybe 50 lbs. I can easily carry it myself.
When not having all the right tool's...your a big help. Thank you.

Selalu semangat = always spirited..😎😎😀
did you finish that previous pine sofa? Or did it rot like this even with finish?
Maybe it was directly udner the rain?
I finished it with outdoor polyurethane. Probably if I had used a sprayer it would have worked better/ had a more comprehensive coating, but it's still not ideal imo.
It was also under direct rain and sun. But cedar holds up much better even without finish.
@@NATHANBUILDS What would you advice as a finish for pine outdoor sofa if not poly (that you used)?
Paint? oil? Some impregnant against the moisture?
Yeah I would use some heavy duty finish from a company like Total Boat. However if you didn't start already I would suggest the cedar route and oil finish. Good luck!
God I love your sofa. Was looking for this build and comparing one with antoher. Going to repeat your project
Good luck! Let me know how it goes!
Hi , if you wanted to make this able to be two halves that could join together easily and take apart how would you modify it ?
You would need to add a leg at the desired length and ensure there is a falcon wing support at that location as well. I think you could make it look pretty good.
@@NATHANBUILDS Thank you.

Love the design.
Thank you!
Love the project. Can you tell me the lengths of pocket hole screws you used? Were the screws also Kreg screws? Thanks
Thanks! Yes 2.5" kreg outdoor pocket hole screws.
If you use thinner wood you will need a different length. All Kreg jigs come with a guide though so no guessing.

if you were to make these and sell them would you still use the pocket holes? really not just for this project but for anything you would make and sell?
It depends on the price point. There is definitely a time and place for pocket holes.
How has the floating seat joint held up over the years?
Still looks great!
Why is everything nailed AND glued? Are the screws not enough?
If you just used pocket holes you should be ok. The glue adds extra strength.
Like this sofa build over the original, but would 105° back rest be more comfortable than it being 90° with the seat? I like how the original wasn’t just 90°.

How do you keep the screws on the horizontal supports from hitting the screws on the square end pieces ?
I just made sure they are at different locations. There is enough space to let you be flexible with those.
@@NATHANBUILDS thanks !!
I wonder how this would do with kids jumping on it. the falcon wings don't seem that supportive. I love the look though. thanks!

Yes, check out the video description!
Nowadays, Phil (Modern Family) is doing furniture :D
Lol. Can't compete with that 🤣

Less material and aesthetics. The first one I made used 2x4 and it was definitely stronge, but with the additional supports I added, this version is super solid as well.
Your mitre saw sections made me so nervous! Did you do a finger count afterwards? :-s
I think it looks closer on the camera than in reality. But I have confirmed all fingers remain.

Great build man! Love your eye for good design. So in the end, would you do 4 falcon wing supports instead of 2?
Sorry missed this one, I think five total (2 on sides, three in the middle) would be enough. However you be safe maybe do 4 in the middle.
Beautiful.
Thanks!
Do u sell any of these? Just curious if you've ever made this sort of thing into a small business.
