When an engine is shut off, there are often one or more intake valves open and the residual fuel vapors as well as oil vapors from the PCV system are trapped behind the throttle plate until the next startup. There will always be a buildup in that area. I always recommend to have the throttle body cleaned every couple years.

I came here for this comment. I 100% agree. I have always (decades) seen this buildup on the inside of the intake manifold beyond the throttle body, mostly from PCV valve activity. Oil vapor lands on cool surfaces after the car cools down. It's simple. Never had a fuel pressure regulator problem.

Noticed this on my motorcycle. I change the oil, flush the gas tank, and clean the air box religiously to prevent corrosion and shit, but this gunk always builds up in the air filter housing around the vapor return lines. The manufacturer even put a tiny little sponge in there to collect it all between cleanings

Yes but will maybe appear as a lighter color than from the motor and pcv still is letting out the fuel that can leak past worn rings into the crankcase obviously like the whole point of the pcv right? Weil not the whole point but whether it's fuel or blowby gases from cylinders? Because otherwise they will go into oil and thin the oil and that's part or the reason as well as.... carbon buildup?

My 2011 Honda Accord had the same problem and I had a mechanic that wanted to replace the valves. I wanted to make sure of his diagnosis so I want to friend that my son uses and after going through the core he noticed under the body throttle there was a lot of wires coming out the wiring corners and he noticed one of the wires were broken, so he put two wires together fix the wire which was thin thread wire when you’re sewing and I got a bill from him for over $300 for the job. The other person wanted $900 and that was an even the problem so I would suggest getting a couple opinions if you can if your car will let you, don’t jump on the first opinion

Rapidly moving the butterfly valve can actually cause enough current to send faulty signals and mess up sensitive electronic components. If I need to move the butterfly valve to clean the throttle body, I move it slowly so as to not generate current
