Really nice to see that S45VN has been a consistent performer across the board. Always get nervous with a new steel that manufactures are going to hold back but this doesn’t seem to be the case for S45. Appreciate the video as always man!
I gave my brother in law my s45vn pm2 after i wore the factory edge down and sharpened it. That was last Christmas. Here recently i saw him again and asked how his pm2 was doing, he said great and handed it to me. I felt the edge and it was still extreamly sharp, i asked if he had even used it and he said he uses it alot and that it just won't dull. Good stuff. Passed the non-knife guy user test.
pretty much, production magnacut knives arent that many and they are aiming for larrin's recommended HT which yields 63 with cryo or 61 without need for one.
Jared, I got the Subjugator because of you, lol. Turns out it's a great knife. I sent it to Gerald because it felt pretty damn hard on the stones. I guess we'll see if I'm full of shit.
Love how easily this stuff strops right back to a scary edge and how long you're able to continue using it with only stropping and not resharpening it... stuff is incredible imo
My s45vn Pm2 is amazing. Works about the same for me as s35vn. I always throw an 18⁰ edge on all my knives, this one took that edge like a champ, stays sharp, strops beautifully. I would recommend s45vn to almost everyone
Ive been blown away by the s45vn in my inkosi. I used the factory edge for the whole first week and it kept stropping back to hair popping each morning. I'd love to see the WEs tested. Low expectations, but more data points are never a bad thing.
@@Outpost_76 Mine is an insingo blade inkosi in s45vn. I'd love to see the inkosi grind go head to head with a Sebenza grind, with all other variables being equal. If that's something you'd be interested in testing, and someone out there would send you an S45VN insingo blade Sebenza, I'd send my inkosi.
I literally have that EXACT same knife. BGM regrind, lefty in S45vn. Mine has been fantastic and the steel has performed perfect for what you’d expect from S45vn. Mine is on its way to get HRC tested as we speak.
Great to hear the results on S45VN. Was wondering how much of an upgrade it was over 30 and 35. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
Definitely want to see the We results. I haven't been impressed with any m390/20cv except for 1 manix in m390. I'd like to see how bad We is, most feel 59ish hrc but I'd like to see what they actually run them at
The thing of interest regarding Magnacut is, can the knife industry get the heat treatment 62+ or is Magnacut going to be the next M390. Spyderco Native 5 Salt looks like a cool blade in the production domain. If the heat treatment is in the 58-60 range I'm not interested at all. Give me a little patina and some K390 @ 64 rockwell. I like the LC200N enough to use it in salt water / wet environments. The other issue is that the knife must be 100% rust proof. The first run of Spidiecheif knives had a detent ball that rusted. Great Video. Thanks much! Hard pass on the We knives. Would like to see more Magnacut in production blades
Great vidya Gerald. Been looking for your return. Anyone know what does John charge for a regrind? Would save me some time on the stones. I have a maxamet native and I just got my first manix2 after hearing Gerald talk about them for years. Manix is a great knife sans the stiff ball cage. Fit and finish is good but .030 is too thicc. I could do it but I need the time more.
My sebenza has stayed sharp for way longer than expected, if it weren't one of my favorites I'd send it to ya for testing but currently it's my most expensive knife next to a spyderco drunken lol
Please test WE's 20CV. It's not just the performance gap between "on paper" and IRL for production knives in M390/20CV. Given the excellent heat treatment on 9Cr18Mov in their budget knives, I want to see how close they get. In fact, I'd love to hear your thoughts in comparing WE's 20CV with the 9Cr18Mov in Civivi and Sencut knives.
It would be good to get a test on WE 20cv, but I feel its just a waste of time. Its almost always doo doo. The new Budget steel was better than there more premium steels from WE. Which is sad. I've always wanted to see where the Ares m390 sits, since the rest of the m390 is often not good. Though I'm not a fan of the model, I like the brand. They just need to make a different model that I'll like. I've handled a few. Impressed with the quality.
They (Koenig) told me that their target for both steels was 62, so we'll see. As far as WE heat treat, the last WE that I sent to Gerald was in D2, and it is currently the first or second best D2 he's ever tested. Maybe luck of the draw?
I think that's the WE kitefin. Would live to see the subjegator tested, and I'd the kitefin is in the same steel then I don't see the point in testing that one too. Don't make it too hard on yourself!

S45VN on my sebenza impressed me more with each sharpening. Heat treatment was so good in the last one the burr came off like a hair on the 1k stone.
I'm hoping before long I can get some CRK S45VN to test and use long term to see how it is. So far I'm a big fan of S45VN
I'd Definitely like to see how we is doing with their 20cv, I'm very interested, I've got some magnacut at 64.5 hrc and absolutely loving it
Is that custom or what?
pretty much, production magnacut knives arent that many and they are aiming for larrin's recommended HT which yields 63 with cryo or 61 without need for one.

@@CKshouta Koenig quoted both steels at 62 when I enquired via email.
Put regrind in the title. It’s a pretty important piece of info for people looking to see how their s45vn is from the factory.
Love how easily this stuff strops right back to a scary edge and how long you're able to continue using it with only stropping and not resharpening it... stuff is incredible imo
I have the same color Subjugator so of course I would love to see it tested. Mine came nice and sharp and hasn’t gone dull yet.

What is the BTE thickness on the Hinderer after the regrind?
Where did the HRC come in at?
Take your time G, no hurries. We'll be here waiting for your content. Thanks for the effort and hope you are doing well.😁🙏👍
Great to hear the results on S45VN. Was wondering how much of an upgrade it was over 30 and 35. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
Cant wait to see the how the Arius perform ,thanks for everything you do
You're welcome
I’m super excited about the Arius testing, I have an Arius in M390 and it’s absolutely beastly
They are next up to test this week.
I'd love to see the WE results. Specially on the 20CV on that Subjugator
Let’s see them Gerald, great video I’ve loved S45vn since the first time I’ve ever sharpened it great steel
Would love to see the Subjugator.
Now that's how a Hinderer should be ground. At least mine🤣 pitty there's no one here to do that wonderful job, like John does. Great vid as always G👏
Thank you
I've got a WE mini buster coming tomorrow so seeing the we would be awesome!
I hope all is well 😉👍🏻
That last WE was a Kitefin, and it's S35.
Nice test! Need to have BGM regrind my s35vn non flipper XM-18 ;)

I can vouch for TRM Atom and Hogue 20cv. Have had good results from those 2 models. Manufacturer date was in the last 2 years.
I want to say both tested well for Gerald as well.
It's no problem brotherman, thanks for testing them. Are you still stoked about our Manix 2 numbers? I know I am 😁😁😁
Would like to see where WE's 20CV sits at. Most of the newer models are in 20CV.
They are coming, I've already tested them. Just need to finish the videos.
Skip the WE and let's see those gorgeous twins tested!
I'm almost done with the videos for them.

8:50 is a WE Kitefin
Edit: oh yeah, and it's s35vn. Also, probably a custom ano job on the scales.
It is a custom anno and I did already test this one.

I'm going to track down an Umnumzaan in S45VN to test. I've wanted to pick one up since I had a loaner a few years agoand just never got around to it.
Do the we

Have you gotten to do the smkw exclusive Medford smooth criminal in S45VN yet??? Soooo super thinly ground thing is an animal I love mine!!!
I haven't and it's not one I'll buy. If I find onw to test I'll do a video about it.
How is this compared to magnacut and CPM- S110V ?
I'd just poke the WE's and not bother cutting, I'm willing to bet you'll be disappointed. You settled in at your new place?
Interested in the two sun m398.
What edge degree does hinderer use for their xm18?
The we’s would be cool, better yet maybe you can to get your hands on a full size Kizer Sheepdog in 10v? It’s so good I bought a few more for back up!
I have one to test and the video is coming, its the 10V regular size.
