- Some of my favorite text effects are those that rely heavily on Layer Styles. You can create subtle to drastic changes, and everything in between.
This video will teach you how to create a retro text effect in Photoshop using Layer Styles.

Hi! in your video @ (3:24) when you change the (width & height) is in pixel. Mine is ( %percentage ). How can I change that thing. Thanks.

how can I add + to my blending option tool?
I tried to follow along, but I think in 2022 the Photoshop layout is different. I got the the "bullion" step, but that icon wasn't on my interface. Not sure what menu it's in.
When I try this my drop shadows are semi-transparent even though I have opacity set to 100 and the blend mode to normal. Any thoughts?

Not personally, no. But I'm sure there's a good amount of tutorials on that already out there since it's pretty old :)

When I add the individual drop shadows I don't get the seperate colours, they go a weird grey colour for example if I select a nice orange it doesn't show like it should
The only thing I can think is that you're in Grayscale mode? Try clicking Image > Mode > RGB Color and see if that helps.
make sure the opacity is at 100%
I had the same problem, what you have to do is make sure your blend mode (left of the color of the drop shadow) is set to normal. Mine was set to multiply and it made it look ugly but as soon as I turned it to normal it made it look like his (cuz that is was his is set to). Hope this helped!
hi..Thanks for your awesome video...getting issue with 4th drop shadow...every time when i click it ..its coming from first shadow and now from 3rd one..so thats why its changing the color of all 1st 2nd and 3rd drop shadow...i dont what i m doing wrong..hope you have understand ...please support..Regards
It sounds like you're doing them in the opposite order somehow, so when you create a new drop shadow, it's covering the others. Try doing them "backwards" in the opposite order and see if that works.

I tried to follow the steps that was taught in this video but I encounter some problems with the last two colors.
It will cover the first three colors of the drop shadow effect.
Can someone provide some tips how to fix that? perhaps, it is bec. of my settings

switch your blend mode: Normal. Maybe its on "multiply"
I've done this so many times but all of a sudden I can't paste images into the mask. I'm already doing alt + command into the layer and then pasting but nothing shows up. (I can see the pink outline of the image though) does anyone have any solutions?? thank you!
Sounds like you are in Quick Mask mode or have the wrong channel selected in the Channels panel. Try checking those two things!
Can't move my rectangle with the move tool. Please help.
To move vector shapes you need to choose the Direct Selection tool (A), then select the shape, then you can move it.
i cant paste the texture in mask
I’ve done everything correctly to my knowledge however when the borders appear they are blurry and not solid. I can’t seem to find what’s causing this. The opacity is at 100% and everything
If you look at the properties of the vector mask, make sure the feathering is set to 0. Hope that helps.
Make sure your Drop Shadow Blend Mode is set to Normal and its Opacity to 100%
im getting stuck at transform shape, when i change the aspect ratio it doesn't really change anything for me

there is no "+" on my drop button and i can only use this effect once... how do i make multiple drop shadows?
You need to have a legitimate Creative Cloud license. I believe the + sign became available in Photoshop CC 2015.
you can duplicate the entire text layer + the effects, adjust the distance with the new layers as what he did. Dont forget to set the very first text layer you did on the top most part and keep adding the other layers behind that.
It won't let me click "Substract Front Shape"... Any advice?

@@JustFlav Make sure you have the "Direct Selection Tool (A)" selected, not the regular selection tool. If you don't select the vector shape itself, you cannot access those controls.
At 3:25 while I am changing the width and height, there are no changes been done,it's the same thing

It's hard to say without watching you do it. Make sure the shapes are in a Layer Group, and then add the Vector Mask to the Layer Group, and make sure you're editing the Vector Mask when you shrink it.

Your adding it as a percentage, type px after the numbers stated and it border will appear

how can u have multiple drop shadow option? my layer style box only have 1 drop shadow...
You need Photoshop CC, I believe it was introduced in 2015.

I no select subtract front shape (time 3:36).
Make sure you select the actual vector shape. You need to choose the Vector Mask and use the Direct Selection or Path Selection Tool to select it before changing it to Subtract Shape.

Mythical Phoenix That option is only available in Photoshop CC.
I duplicated the text layer to the same amount of drop shadows used, seemed to work well. And added one drop shadow to each copy. Just make sure the layers are in order. First on the top, second under etc....
@@proxzy5988 Yep! This is how I used to do this before Adobe added the option for multiple drop shadows in a single style. Glad you figured it out :)
is it possible to do this to a logo? or just a text
You can do this with any layer, as long as it has transparent parts. Like NOT a black logo on a white background, you'd have to separate the logo onto a transparent layer first.

It's hard to say based on that description. Are both your vector shapes the same size by accident?

my document's size is 16x9 inches, what size can my vertical stripes be?
Just divide the width of your document by the number of stripes you want, and that's how wide each stripe should be.

idk if its because of the font I used, but the shadow doesn't look as good as the one in the video
It’ll definitely look best with certain fonts, but since it’s layer styles you can always tea to fit anything as well as you can :)

Yep! Nothing special here, you could probably do this in 10 year old versions of Photoshop just the same.
I tried doing this last night using cs6 but I can't add more layers. So I decided to purchase Adobe Photoshop 2020. Is it that necessary?
I mean i cannot add more drop shadow using cs6*
@@margoks Ah yes. In old versions you can still do it, but what you need to do is create many copies of the text and give each copy a single different drop shadow. So it's possible, just a bit more of a hassle.

Sorry. I can only recommend re-watching and following the steps in that section more closely. Many people forget to choose the "Direct Selection Tool (A)" and choose the regular selection tool by mistake.

Things are missed out....none of it worked....you had your first layer as 'colour fill', mine had a mask next to it. so the rectangle I created wasn't the same size as the canvas although the size was tthe same as you did.....I got to do it another way... but as soon as I put the coloured rectangles in a group, it stopped there and wouldn't allow me to access the rectangle tool...Pop up says can't access the tool without merging into a group, but it was in a group and I named it border...

Sorry to hear. This is the easiest way to achieve this effect while maintaining maximum editability, so perhaps you can try again once you've practiced your Photoshop skills some more.

If you know of a way to get the same look with less steps, I'm sure everyone would love to know. Some looks require this much effort.

You can set the playback speed to .75x or even .5x if you need to.
