easier way to get the shadow effect: make a fill layer of the text mask - hold option command and down (or the windows equivalents). The fill layer will continuously be copied one pixel down until you release the buttons. Then merge all the new layers into a new fill layer.

When I download the font it doesn't seem to be the same as shown. Even when I use the word "Rainbow' The text letter are all separate from one another rather than be connected as shown.

You mean when he sheared to make the word look italic? It's the COMMAND key on Mac, CONTROL on Window.

hey! I'm new to this so might sound dumb but why do we always duplicate layers and not just copy paste the text? is it the same thing or is there a difference?
When you duplicate it goes in the same spot as the original, when you copy and paste it tends to put it in a different spot. So if you are lining something up, it's easier to duplicate! :)
